Part 4
Mastema found Apollyon in his library, surrounded by scrolls and books that glowed with a soft inner light. He was engrossed in reading as usual, but she noticed that his attention was scattered, his gaze often fixed on nothingness.
She approached him and stood beside him, her voice quiet but firm. "Father, we need to talk."
Apollyon raised his head, a flicker of surprise and then concern in his eyes. "What is it, Mastema?"
She took a deep breath, gathering her courage. "I saw you with Anael."
Apollyon froze, as if petrified. His face turned pale, and his golden plumage seemed to dim. He remained silent, waiting for the next words to be spoken.
"I saw you holding hands, looking at each other," Mastema continued. "What is going on, father? Why didn't you tell me?"
Apollyon lowered his head, feeling caught off guard. He didn't know what to say, how to explain his feelings to his daughter without hurting her.
"Mastema, I..." he began, but his voice cracked. He cleared his throat and tried again. "It's difficult to explain."
"Is it difficult? Or do you just not want to?" Mastema interrupted, her voice tinged with a hint of disappointment. "I have always been there for you, father. I have shared my thoughts and feelings with you. Why did you keep this from me?"
Apollion walked over to the window, gazing out at the endless expanse of the Aether. "I was afraid," he confessed, his voice filled with bitterness. "I was afraid that you would not understand. I was afraid that you would judge me."
"Condemn you? For what? For falling in love?" Mastema couldn't hide her surprise. "Father, I want you to be happy. If Anael makes you happy, then I'm happy for you."
Apollyon turned to her, his eyes filled with hope. "Do you really think so?"
"Of course," Mastema replied, but there was a hint of uncertainty in her voice. "But I don't understand why you kept it from me. Why don't you trust me?"
"I trust you, Mastema," Apollyon said, stepping closer to her and taking her hands. "But it wasn't just your reaction I was afraid of. I was afraid of the judgment of other angels, who might not understand my sudden attachment to Anael. They might think that an archangel of wisdom and knowledge should not give in to such worldly feelings."
He paused, and then added: "But my biggest fear was to hurt you. You've always been my rock, my best friend. I was afraid that my relationship with Anaiel would destroy our bond, that you would feel neglected."
Mastema looked at her father, her heart filled with sympathy. She understood his fears and doubts. He had always been so strong and confident, but now she saw his vulnerability, his insecurity.
"Father," she said, squeezing his hands. "I will always be by your side. No Anael can break our bond. But I want you to be honest with me. I want to know what is going on in your life, even if it involves your feelings for another angel."
"I promise, Mastema," Apollyon replied, embracing her. "I will be honest with you. And I am very glad that you understand me."
But despite these words, Mastema's heart remained troubled. She did not fully trust Anael. She felt that there was something hidden within this angel, something that could potentially hurt her father. She resolved to keep a close eye on Anael and prevent her from causing harm to Apollyon. A shadow of mistrust cast over their relationship, and only time would tell if Mastema could accept her father's choice and believe in the sincerity of his feelings.
The Heavenly Betrothal
Mastema sat on a marble terrace, wrapped in golden vines, her angel wings slightly moving in the cool breeze. Anael sat beside her, floating effortlessly in the air, her shining feathers shimmering like dawn clouds.
"Why did you choose him?" Mastema asked, staring at the angel.
Anael smiled, but a shadow of memories crossed her eyes.
"Your father… He saved me when Kokabiel was about to rip my wings off. Apollyon came like a storm," her voice trembled, "and at that moment I realized: he's not just a destroyer. He is the one who gives a new beginning.
Mastema thought about it, remembering her father — powerful, fierce, but deep down... lonely.
—And you confessed to him?"
"Yes," Anael whispered, lowering her eyes. "I thought he would reject me. But he just laughed and said, 'You're either crazy or the bravest person in Heaven.'"
Mastema laughed, and in that moment, a sense of understanding passed between them.
"He is happy with you," she said at last. "And so I give my blessing."
When the news spread throughout Heaven, even the stern seraphim were smiling. For this was the first union in centuries that could reconcile light and darkness.
Apollo wrapped his arms around Anael's waist and whispered in her ear, causing her wings t
