Part 5

The Expansion of Hell

Apollyon stood cloaked in shadow, his wings, veiled by enchantment, stirred barely by the faint, sulfur-laden wind. The angel's eyes, cold and relentless as honed blades, pierced the figure of Lucifer, who orated before a throng of demons and sinners bound by infernal pacts. Lilith, at his side, smiled as though the world already lay within her grasp. Her lips, scarlet as fresh blood, moved, uttering words steeped in venom.

"The Heavens shall fall, and I shall be their new sovereign," Lucifer's voice, deep and resonant with arrogance, echoed across the desolate expanse. Apollyon felt fury surge within his breast, yet he restrained it, as he had for millennia. His fist, clenched tight, trembled, but he remained still. Not yet.

Apollyon's knuckles whitened as his fingers dug into his palms, but his face remained impassive. He knew this scheme was no mere delusion. Lucifer was too dangerous to ignore. But something about this assembly felt amiss. The demons he surveyed were not solely hellspawn; their auras were tainted, bearing traces of human souls.

"Contracts," Apollyon breathed, his voice a whisper lost to the wind. He understood. These demons were sinners, bartering their souls for power, for dominion, for immortality. Their essences had intertwined with hellish entities, birthing something novel, something unseen.

He noticed one sinner, a man with eyes brimming with darkness, standing apart, observing with cold calculation. His gaze flickered across Apollyon, and for an instant, it seemed he sensed the angel's presence. But the moment passed, and Apollyon continued to watch.

"Lilith," Lucifer turned to her, his voice softening, almost tender. "You shall be my queen. Together, we shall show these celestial doves the meaning of true might."

Lilith laughed, her mirth like the shattering of glass, and she traced a finger along his cheek. Apollyon felt the air coil with energy, thick and heavy, like the foreboding of a storm.

Lucifer continued his address, his words like poison seeping into the minds of his followers. Apollyon moved imperceptibly closer, his steps leaving no trace. He was unseen, a shadow, yet his presence hung in the air, like the tension before a lightning strike.

"The Heavens shall acknowledge me," Lucifer concluded, his voice trembling with fury and pride. Lilith smiled, her lips twisting into a sinister sneer.

Apollyon halted a mere step away, his breath steady, but fire kindling in his eyes. He knew his vigil was over. The Earth could not fall. Not now. Not because of him.
