Chapter 4 - Carn-Evil (3/???)
Carn-Evil
- I've gotta hand it to you, Cuphead. - Mugman, even if tried to stop his brother from going to Carnival, said with a smile - That was great! – but then remembered they must get the supplies to fix the fence - And we still have time to get supplies and fix the fen... Cuphead?
Y/N noticed as well, what Cuphead was doing
He was staring at a Game named Soul Ball
He wasn't understanding and noticing that if he'll lose, he'll lose a soul
Y/N quickly noticed it and tried to tell the two they must leave:
- Cuphead, Mugman! We need to leave!
But Cuphead, of course, didn't listen and answered:
- Relax, Y/N. What bad can happen?
He rolled a ball and got a win.
- Winner! – the Machine announced
- Ha-ha! – Cuphead was having fun, playing
Y/N didn't wanted to be part of this, he wanted to escape from Carnival, but without brothers, leaving is not possible!
Mugman at first wasn't paying attention to the fact Cuphead can lose a soul
While his brother was winning, the "Winner" from the Machine caught attention of other citizens of the Inkwell Isles
Meanwhile, Mugman noticed, the Telephone, yes, the Telephone, was playing the Game too, but lost, which caused his soul to be sucked into the Machine
- "Soul Ball." – he said, then noticed, that some citizens looked like zombies, they had their souls stolen
Y/N told him:
- Mugman, we need to stop Cuphead!
But Mugman, instead of answering, looked at the entrance sign
- "Carnival." – "Carn" flickered, leaving... - "Carn-Evil". EVIL?! – Mugman became worried now, he gasped and started to call his brother - Uh... Cuphead?
- Not now, Mugsy! I'm on a hot streak.
He rolled and won again.
- Winner! – the Machine announced once again
The crowd was cheering for Cuphead.
Y/N and Mugman, on the other hand...
The Underworld
The Devil, the one, who wanted Y/N to appear right in front of him, but failed, was right now happily watching Souls of the Inkwell Isles' residents being sucked into the Soul Bank as their screams were echoing through the tubes
Yes, he failed to get young man's soul, but he will get it in the end
But for now...
- Everyone loves a carnival. - he moved over to a soul count which is being operated by one of his minions, Henchman this minion is known as - What a haul.
And with these words, The Devil started to sing:
- ♫ Whoa! In case you ain't heard, I'm the Devil. ♫ - he pointed at himself, then transformed into snake
♫ I'm real low down, not on the level. ♫ - he grabbed his pitchfork
♫ They call me Old Scratch, Mr. S, the Big D. ♫ - he putted a white hat on his head
♫ I'm the king of the underworld. ♫ - he then sat on his throne
♫ Yeah, it's great to be me. ♫ - he started now to play on a piano
The Devil: ♫ Ho-di-llie doh-di-llie doh-di-llie doh. ♫ - Demons and Souls were singing the next two parts with him
Demons: ♫ Ho-di-llie doh-di-llie doh-di-llie doh. ♫
The Devil: ♫ Hee-di-llie hee-di-llie hee-di-llie hee! ♫
Souls: ♫ Hee-di-llie hee-di-llie hee-di-llie hee. ♫
♫ I'm a real naughty boy, I'm sure you'll agree. ♫ - he transformed into snake again and Henchman, who was coiled around by him, nodded with fear
♫ I get my kicks playing tricks on the locals. ♫ - The Devil turned into a spider and touched the mirror; it reflected a toddler - looking soft as bread-crumb and full of the joy of life - who was about to eat a lollipop while holding a balloon.
The Devil appeared in the mirror and popped a kid's balloon making him cry, then proceeded to steal the kid's lollipop, eating it in the process
♫ They're easy marks, they're real dumb yokels. ♫
The Devil then came out of the mirror and, making it look like he is breaking the fourth wall, telling the viewers of the Show, started to say this:
♫ But now folks, listen closely, it's time I made a confession. ♫ - during these words, everything became dark, leaving the Devil's figure yellow
Then he pointed at the Soul Bank:
♫ Collecting people's souls is my greatest obsession! ♫ - he started to laugh evilly
After that, The Devil started to dance in a white suit to a background with flashing colours...
- Uh, hey, boss. Boss! Hey, boss! – Henchman was trying to get his attention
The music stopped playing and The Devil asked Henchman with anger in his voice:
- What?! I was singing!
- The... the soul counter stopped.
And... it was true
The Devil banged The Soul Counter but it wasn't doing anything.
He then rushed to his pipes, only to see no souls were getting sucked into the pipes.
He was lost, confused
- What the...
What he did next was used a telescope to see what is going on in the Carn-Evil.
He could see nobody first but then he turned it (telescope) to the Soul Ball machine and saw the crowd watching Cuphead winning continuously.
- Cuphead! Cuphead! Cuphead! – the citizens were cheering for Cuphead
But what also caught The Devil's attention, was...
- Well, well, well – The Devil spotted Y/N - the human who had defeated him in the Game. Yes, the Devil knows and remembers a lot of things; moreover, he is aware that he was part of the Game Y/N played in his own world. - "The very human whose soul I wanted to claim is right here. Well, that's excellent news: taking his soul will be a piece of cake. - then came a remark about Cuphead - And it looks like we've got a real show-off on our hands here, too. - he grabbed his pitchfork and teleported away.
