I slept on Jaiden's couch that night because I wanted be there for her first thing in the morning to help with her hangover.
I woke up around 9:30am, I sat on the couch playing on my phone until I heard a groan coming from the stairs.
I looked over to see Jaiden rubbing her head looking like she had been hit by a train.
"Hey, you okay?",I said getting up off the couch to aside her.
"No",she whined.
I sprinted over to the kitchen and grabbed her a water bottle and some aspirin from the counter.
"Here",I said handing them to her.
Jaiden quickly took the pill before plopping down on the couch with me following her actions.
"Ugh, I'm gonna have to clean up the party mess",she groaned.
"No you won't, I cleaned it last night after everyone left".
"Thank you so much Matt, you didn't need to do that",she told me.
"It's not big deal",I smiled.
"So uh, do you remember anything from last night?",I asked praying that she did.
She sat still for a moment thinking, "Nope",she suddenly laughed.
I sighed.
"What?",Jaiden asked.
"I don't want to be the one to tell you but...... Derek broke up with you",I spoke slowly.
Jaiden looked down, "Why?",her voice cracked.
I wrapped my arm around around her, "Because he's an idiot".
"What happened after he broke up with me",she sniffled.
"Well um you and I went and sat in the backyard",I spoke slowly.
"And..",she said.
"The rest doesn't really matter",I said looking down.
"Matt I know you, somethings upsetting you",she said looking at me.
"Jaiden you....I...... we kissed".
Jaiden sat there with a blank expression.
She told me she loved me last night. I couldn't help but wonder if she really meant it or not. She had to of right, what if she's been feeling the same way I have, or what if she feels the exact opposite.
"Dang",Jaiden spoke baffled. "I must have been really drunk".
I looked down at my hands, "Yeah..... But I wasn't".
Jaiden looked over at me with a blank expression.
I started to get nervous.
"Are you mad?",I asked awkwardly.
She shook her head.
"Then what's wrong"?
"Did I kiss you first?",she asked answering my question with a question.
I nodded slowly.
"I-if you weren't drunk then why did you kiss me back?",she asked quietly.
I sighed, "Jai I don't think that you're understanding. You didn't just randomly kiss me. We were talking about our feelings and",I started to tell her before she interrupted me.
"What do you mean by that?",she asked quickly.
"I told you I loved you and you said it back",I spoke with hope that she still feels the same way when she's sober.
She got silent again.
"I know for a fact that I love you, I do. I love you",I spoke with despair in my voice.
She still stayed quiet.
"Jaiden",I exclaimed just wanting her to say it back.
"I think that you should go",she said standing up off of the couch and walking towards the door and opening it.
My heart shattered along with my dignity.
I slowly walked past her out the door.
But just as she was about to close the door I put my hand up to stop it.
"Have you ever heard the saying a persons drunk words are a sober persons thoughts",I simply asked.
She looked up at me not saying anything but I still continued, "You told me things that most people wouldn't have been able to make up when they're drunk. You told me that you couldn't be with me because you thought that you couldn't give me happiness and I told you that that was a lie and that... that was when you kissed me. That was the best moment of my life.... And I'm not convinced that you just said those things".
"But I did Matt.... I did just say those things",she said looking down at the floor.
"Then look me in the eyes and tell me that you don't love me back".
