2. The Secret
Friday is creeping up quickly and I'm more than ecstatic! Just the thought of being able to travel across the country with my brother overwhelms me; the independence of being able to do anything/everything on my own; the experience of seeing the different states! I just wish I knew who Shawn's 'special guest' is going to be... It's driving me crazy just thinking about it.
I heard the song 'one step closer' by Shane Harper blast through the speakers of my phone. (It's Sophie's ringtone) Quickly, I scooped up my phone from my bed covers and saw an unknown number on the screen.
"Hello?" I questioned with a croaky voice.
"Ah, yes is this Sophie Mendes?" A man's voice spoke on the other end of the line.
"Yesss." I let the s trail off.
"I am Andrew Gertler, Shawn Mendes' manager. I saw your cover on YouTube and I think you would be a perfect artist. Would you be able to meet up to discuss this further?"
"Of course. We could meet at Starbucks, if it's not too far away from your location."
"That would be fine. Meet me at Starbucks at 12." He ended the call straight after he said that and I checked the time, 10:00 in the morning. That means I still have 2 hours to get ready.
I browsed through my wardrobe and picked out my light blue skinny jeans, plain white t-shirt, red flannel and red vans. When I was satisfied with my outfit I jumped in the shower before getting changed; I applied a small amount of foundation, mascara, eyeliner and pale pink lip gloss.
The clock struck 12 and I was waiting at a table in the corner of Starbucks with my caramel frapucino.
"Hello Miss. Mendes." I gazed up to see Andrew Gertler smiling down at me. "Thank you for meeting me here." He pulled out the chair opposite me and took a seat, placing his work bag on the floor. "Now, let's discuss you as an artist." He took a sip of his Latte. "How long have you been singing for?"
"I think I first developed a passion for singing when I saw how happy it made my brother. After that I started taking lessons with a voice coach every week and then I decided to upload a cover." I smiled, taking a sip of my frapucino.
"Okay." He smiled. "Have you ever thought of being in the music industry?"
"I have thought about it a little bit." I answered. It felt like he was interviewing me.
"How would you feel about signing a record deal?"
"I would feel so honoured and excited to sign a record deal. It would build me up as an artist and as a young adult. It would be a dream come true." I smiled at the thought of being able to live my dream.
"I would like to sign you to Island Records, the same as Shawn." When he spoke those words, my insides attacked me and my heart was jumping for joy!
"Seriously? Thank you." My smile widened as he pulled out a few forms for me to sign. He explained everything to me and shook my hand before exiting.
I closed the front door with the same smile stuck on my face.
"Sophie, Carl and Julia have just gone out grocery shopping. They'll be back in a little bit." Shawn shouted from the living room. Carl and Julia are our Aunt and Uncle, whom we are currently staying with for a few weeks in Atlanta.
"Okay." I shouted back and retreated to my bedroom, texting Matt Espinosa. I'm closer to him than I am to any of the other magcon guys.
Me: Matt I have some exciting news. :) x
Matty: spill it.
Me: I just got signed to a record label :D x
Matty: What? Omg Soph I'm so happy for you :D x
Me: aww, thanks Matty
Matty: You're welcome. :) Who signed you? x
Me: My brother's manager. x
Matty: cool. x
Me: don't tell Shawn please. I want it to be a surprise for him. :) x
Matty: I won't I promise. :) x
Me: Thank you :) x
Matty: I need a huge hug from you when we meet again :) x
Me: You'll get one :) x
Matty: good. Miss my sista x
Me: Missed my big brother too :) x
Matt and I have this brother-sister relatonship. We see each other more as family than anything else, that's actually why we get on so well with each other.
I locked my phone and wandered down the stairs into the living room, where I found Shawn texting away on his phone. I snuck up behind him and rested my arms on the back of the couch.
"Who are you texting?" He jumped causing me to laugh.
"Geez Soph, don't do that. I'm texting a friend." He recovered quickly from the scare and turned back to his phone screen.
"How do you think, Mom, dad and Aaliyah are doing back home?" I asked quietly. He spun his head towards me and stared blankly at me for a few seconds.
"I think they are fine. They miss us." He spoke staring back at his phone.
"I really miss them." I played with my thumbs. This is my first real trip away from home, I know you're probably thinking I'm a loser because I miss my parents and I've never been away from home. But I get homesick easily...
"Don't worry. We'll see them again after the tour." He put his arm around my shoulder to comfort me. I nodded and flicked through the channels on tv. Shawn's phone begun ringing and he checked the screen.
"Hey man, hold on a minute." He spoke into the phone before covering the speaker. "I'll be back in a bit Soph." He left the room and continued talking to whoever is on the other end.

Short chapter :( But I think the next chapter will be very interesting ;) Things happen in the next chapter....
Teaser: Shawn's tour starts. Sophie meets this 'special guest'. Yay.
Question: Who's actually going to see Shawn on tour this year?
Sadly, I'm not. :( I've never met Reed or Shawn yet, I live 9827377372 miles away from them. (I live in the UK)
