3. Special Guest
Today is Friday. Do you know what that means? It's the first day of travelling; we're only going to Florida but still...
It's still a big step for me. I felt my phone buzz in my pocket so I whipped it out to see a text from Matt.
Matty: Good luck travelling today :) x
Me: thanks Matty :)
I grabbed all my bags to pile on the tour bus and made my way outside, just as the bus approached. The bus had a beautiful shade of purple on the shell with blacked out windows and fascinating patterns over the purple shell.
I threw my suitcase onto the bus before stepping up into it. Staring down at my phone with every step I took.
"Shawn, I think..." I lifted my head up from my phone to see an unfamiliar face standing on the tour bus. "You're not Shawn." I stared at him puzzled. A smile spread across his face as he glanced towards me.
"You're right, I'm not." He spoke with a deep, soft voice. Not husky like most teenage boys voices'. His was different, I kind of liked it.
"Do you know where he is?" I asked him.
"He's just gone to pick some food up for the journey." He made himself comfortable on the side couch, next to the window of the bus; he stared out of the window with a concentrated face. "You're Shawn's sister aren't you?" He asked without taking his eyes off the view outside. I stayed silent, just acknologing his existence! I felt super awkward standing on the bus with a stranger, that is also a guy. I can not speak to guys... I literally can't function around them, I get so shy and awkward!
"Who are you?" I asked, sounding a little bit rude unintentionally. He opened his mouth to speak but Shawn rushed onto the tour bus with bags in his hands and interupted him.
"Ah, I see you've met Reed." He smiled, throwing the bags on the countertop before exhaling loudly.
"Yeah." I breathed out slowly. I'm travelling with two boys. My brother and his 'special guest.' Reed better not try anything while we're travelling around the country, going from state-to-state.
"We're leaving in about 5 minutes. Our driver, Tony, was walking up here just after me." Shawn explained while placing the different foods in the cupboards, helped by me.
"Don't worry. Reed isn't like the average guy, he won't try anything I promise. Give him a chance instead of blocking him out." My brother whispered to me quietly. It was like he read my mind. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually could; we're that close.
"I'll try but I don't trust easily. You know what happened." I closed the cupboard and took a seat on the pull down chair opposite Reed. "So what do we do now?"
"We just chill. It's going to be a long journey to Florida." Shawn whipped out his phone and made himself preoccupied; While both boys were being unsocial on their iPhone 6's, I decided to explore the bus.
There were two bunk beds on both sides in the middle of the bus. Each had curtains for privacy; at the front of the bus was a couch, which Reed was sprawled out on; a fold up seat opposite the couch; two countertops stood either side of a small cooker; one countertop had a microwave tucked under a cupboard on top; the back of the bus had a small table for eating food or storing an electrical device on; with a couch stretched across the back of the entire bus. The one thing that fascinated me the most was the acoustic guitar stood on the stand on the left side (oppisite the table and in front of the toilet door.)
I picked the guitar up and sat on the couch, holding it properly.
"Are you okay?" I heard Reed's soft voice again.
"Yeah. It's just the last time I played the guitar was at my uncle's funeral, so it brings back those bad memories." I shrugged looking down at my favourite sounding instrument, remembering the memory.
Reed plopped himself down next to me on the couch, staring at my face.
"Do you want me to teach you something? Only if you want me to." He asked politely. I didn't answer, I just stayed staring down at the instrument in my hands. Reed moved closer and placed his fingers on the fret board on the neck of the guitar! He then wrapped his arm around my waist until his fingers reached the strings. (He had really long arms and I'm small anyway.)
"Okay, how about I teach you an easy song first. Do you know teenage dirtbag?" He asked and I just nodded. He began teaching me how to play. Even though I can already play guitar professionally. I found it cute how he was so determined to teach me.
As soon as he finished teaching me, I started playing sweet home alabama proffesionally. He looked stunned. I swear his jaw dropped down to the floor of the bus!
"You never said you were able to play." He stated still stupified.
"You never asked." I shrugged placing the guitar delicately back on it's stand.
"I feel embarrassed now."
"Don't be. It was cute how you were so determined to teach me." Did I really just say that? Who even am I? I never talk to guys, let alone tell them how cute they are...
"Really?" He smiled at the ground before turning to face me. "What other instruments can you play?"
"Only guitar, I picked up some skills from Shawn. He basically taught me everything. All the chords, how to tune it, the cool tricks. Everything. Then I went further and started using tabs to learn various different songs like 'sweet home alabama' and 'i can't even'."
"I can't even by The Neighbourhood is the bomb." Reed replied, smiling wider than he did before.
"I can't even, I can't even believe what you did to me
You can't even, you can't even say I'm overreacting
I can't even, can't even hear your side
Shame on me, you fooled me twice" We both chanted in perfect tune, before laughing after. I don't even know why we laughed...
"Hey, I have this vlog on my youtube channel. You wouldn't mind being in my next one would you? A few of my fans are fans of you too." I pulled out my phone from my back pocket and unlocked it.
"Really?"
"Yeah, they're always asking me if I've met you, since you're friends with Shawn." I smiled loading up the camera.
"Now you can say you have." He smiled again. "I'd love to be in the vlog." I held the camera up to us while I took a seat next to him on the couch.
"Hey guys it's Sophie Mendes here. Today I have a very special guest with me today." Reed popped his head up to the camera and waved.
"Hey guys."
"So Reed is here with me and we're on this tour bus." I scanned the camera around the inside of the tour bus, just as Shawn was walking up the centre towards us. "Oh look here comes my dorky brother." He chuckled and waved at the camera before plugging in his laptop under the table (that was the only plug on the bus) and placing his laptop on the table. "What are you doing right now Shawn?"
"I'm putting together this new cover I made so hopefully it will be up on youtube soon." He saluted before placing his headphones over his head.
"Well that was Shawn. Hope you're excited for the cover, he wouldn't stop singing it last night, even when it was past midnight." I sat next to Reed again. "So anyway, I can now tell you guys I've met Reed." He placed his arm around my shoulder, smiling while I pulled a shocked face.
"You know we should do a cover. Like this video and leave a comment below if you think we should do a cover together." Reed stared into the camera while speaking.
"You're so thirty for likes, it's unbelieveable." I shook my head, he pushed my shoulder gently.
"Shut up."
"Hey, don't push me." I pushed him back as he chuckled. Then he started tickling me unexpectedly, causing me to jump a mile and start laughing.
"Don't I'm going to drop the camera you flop." I laughed.
"So I'm a flop now?" He pulled a face at me before turning to the camera and pulling another face.
"Yes you are." I giggled while turning to the camera again.
"Right. Well I'll keep you updated on this tour and hopefully you'll be seeing a lot more of this guy. See you next time guys."
"Don't do it guys." Reed shouted while staring down at his phone. "Oh that car is so loud." He stared outside at the car that just passed by.
"And here you have Reed being distracted by a loud car outside." I rolled my eyes before staring at him. "You get distracted way too easily."
"I don't." He tried to deny even though I think he knows it himself.
"You do. Oh my god..." I switched the camera off with my thumb at that moment.
"Oh my god are you on twitter? What's your username?" I asked way too enthusiastically! He stared up at me and showed me his name; I then followed him and chilled while we watched back the vlog video. Laughing at our arguements and stupid moments.
If I'm being honest, I'd never clicked with anyone as quick as Reed and I did. Not even with my best friend Bea. Reed and I are going to be very close friends this trip, I can already tell.
