Chapter 7

Tris' POV
"Tobias..." I whisper enough so he is the only one that hears me.
He looks up at me and I grab his slippery cheeks to make sure he looks right into my eyes.
"This is not your fault. Yes you made a promise, but it was a promise that cannot be made certain. I may promise to never die but it will happen eventually. And although I made promise to not die, it will happen! Just like Teigon will get hurt. So don't you say it is your fault. You didn't stab him in the shin. Okay?" I say sternly.
He nods and I hug him as tightly as I can. I know that I was a mess, but after I got my emotions out, I was able to understand that we can't do anything about it. I can't go back in time. I can't stop the person from stabbing him. I can't do anything but accept that what has happened happened. And I know that Tobias will soon realize it too.
But there's something about this type of pain that makes it almost...beautiful. The fact that you can mourn your child this hard after knowing them for a week. Being able to love that person so much in merely a week and feeling like your soul has been crushed by one gesture of an evil person. It's a fascinating pain. A beautiful kind of pain.
I start to feel Tobias relax a little and his breathing going back to a normal pace. I let go of him and grab a tissue from beside me, wiping his face dry with it.
He smiles the slightest bit and asks, "Does it look I've been crying?"
I grin a little and lean forward a little, narrowing my eyes like I'm inspecting his face.
"No, you look tough as nails."
We both grin a little more but after a few seconds his grin goes completely slack, like he had realized something.
"Teigon's going to have to have a fake leg." I nod a little and put my mouth in a straight line. "If he chooses dauntless, he's going to have a disadvantage in initiation."
I nod once again and put my head on his shoulder. "But he's strong. He may be young but I can already tell that he's strong. He will just have to deal with the fact that his initiation will be a bit harder."
"Good thing he has two dauntless prodigy's to teach him everything we know." Tobias says and puts his arm around my shoulder and squeezing slightly.
"Yeah, especially since I got help with my fighting techniques before training the first initiates."
I smile slightly at the memory of Tobias helping me learn to fight better. I was never very good during initiation but with Tobias' help I got up to second best right beside him.
"Four and Tris?" We hear a nurse say.
I immediately get up and walk to the nurse, followed by Tobias.
"Teigon will be in surgery for a few more hours to get all the muscles back in place. The doctors will then take a break but he will not be allowed visitors until after the second surgery that will be first thing in the morning. He is fine, just had some blood loss. I suggest you find someone in erudite to spend the night at. You will be able to see Teigon at around 3 tomorrow afternoon. If you have any questions my name is Angie, I will be here all night." We both nod and she leaves after giving us a pitiful look.
"Should we go ask Caleb if we can spend the night at his place and maybe get some dinner afterwards?" I ask and Tobias nods.
We walk over to Christina and Will who are just awkwardly sitting there.
"Hey, Teigon won't be done with his surgeries until tomorrow. Four and I are going to spend the night at my brothers place. You should head back home, we will tell you when he is allowed to have visitors." i say and they both nod. "Plus, I don't think it's very smart to leave Zach with Uriah for too long. You never know what could happen." I say and that gets a laugh out of them, even Will.
They both get up and leave. Tobias grabs my hand and we start walking to Calebs apartment. When we get there I raise my hand up and knock on the door.
We hear some scrambling for a few second before the door is opened to Caleb with his hair messed up the slightest bit and his shirt buttoned up in the wrong holes.
"Tris! umm...I...uh." He swallows and starts speaking again. "I,uh, didn't expect you to be here. Is Teigon alright?"
"Well he won't be done with his surgeries until tomorrow afternoon so we were wondering if we could spend the night here?" I say and hear a bit of rustling in the background.
By now Tobias is leaning against the wall next to the door-frame. A girl appears behind Caleb with her hair also a bit messy. It isn't Cara so I know they aren't dating.
"Whose this?Are you cheating on me Caleb?" she says and she stares into my eyes with hatred, not noticing the fact that I'm not even in the same faction and married. I guess she can't see Tobias though.
"No, this is my sister. Her husband is right next to her."
"Your lying, no one is next to her. Make up a better excuse next time." she says without breaking eye contact with me.
She really isn't that smart.
I simply grab Tobias' arm and pull him out of the door-frame. She looks surprised for a few seconds before she looks at our outfits and her eyes widen.
I stick my hand out to her, "I'm tris, Calebs sister. I believe we haven't met." I smile sarcastically.
She grabs my hand and shakes twice before we both let go. "Quin. Sorry for doubting you. I should've noticed that your one of the dauntless leaders." she says and I just look at Caleb, waiting for an answer.
"Yeah you guys can spend the night. But I want to know how Teigon is right when you find out." he says and lets us in.
Quin just awkwardly leans against the wall next to the door.
"Your room is down the hall and the first door on your right. Do you need to borrow any clothes for pj's?"
"No we'll be fine. Thank you for letting us stay here." Tobias says before I can answer.
"Do you want to go get dinner with us at the erudite cafeteria? We haven't ate anything since this morning?" I ask Caleb but Quin also nods with Caleb.
We all walk to the cafeteria and are sitting at a table with food within ten minutes.
"So, do you guys have any kids?" Quin asks, trying to break the silence that was actually pretty comfortable. Key word: was.
"Yes, one. He was born just last week but is in surgery right now." Tobias says and looks down at his food.
"Your the couple whose kid was stabbed during the meeting! I'm so sorry! I hope he's okay." She says, almost like she cares.
"Yeah, so do we."

Right now Tobias and I are getting ready for bed. Me in his shirt and him in his boxers.
I hop into the bed while Tobias finishes going to the bathroom. I can't help but think about Teigon. He should be out of surgery for now but he will be back in in a few hours. I know he will be okay but he will have a harder time learning how to walk when he's older.
"Hey, we should probably get some sleep if we want to get to the hospital fully alert." Tobias says and gets in bed next to me, wrapping his arm around my waist with his chest against my back.
I nod and close my eyes.
"I love you." I say.
"I love you too." is the last thing I hear before I drift into sleep.

How was this chapter? I took about 1 1/2 hours of non-stop writing to write this chapter! But it was worth it because I think it's a pretty good chapter. Please like and comment as you please. Love you initiates.
