Part eight-last part

They moved through the dark like a shared breath.

The alley behind them was narrow, slick with old rain, and smelled like rust and wet concrete. Sirens echoed off the walls, but the sound was already thinning, chasing ghosts down the wrong streets.

Hyunjin didn't let go of Felix's wrist. Not until the noise dulled enough that Felix's pulse stopped trying to outrun his ribs.

They stopped under a broken awning. One bare bulb flickered above, throwing gold across Hyunjin's face, catching in his lashes, the cut on his cheekbone he hadn't bothered to hide.

Felix looked at him. Really looked. No phone between them. No calculation. Just the man who'd stepped out of the dark and said you mattered.

"You could have stayed a ghost," Felix said, voice scraped raw. "Safer for you."

Hyunjin's thumb shifted, just slightly, against Felix's wrist. Grounding. "I told you. Leaving wasn't an option anymore."

"That's not an answer. That's a sentence."

"Then here's the rest of it." Hyunjin's eyes didn't waver. "I didn't come because it was logical. I came because when I thought about them finding you, I couldn't breathe."

The admission landed heavier than gunfire.

Felix let out a sound that wasn't quite a laugh. "You're terrible at this."

"At what?"

"At being human."

Hyunjin's mouth curved, small and unpracticed. "You said I should learn."

"Yeah." Felix's free hand came up before he could stop it, brushing the blood at Hyunjin's temple. His fingers shook. "I didn't think you'd start by bleeding for me."

"I didn't plan to." A pause. "I don't plan anymore. Not when it's you."

The street was silent now. Just them, and the distant hum of a city that had already decided they were gone.

Felix studied him-every line he'd once thought was a mask, now stripped down to something unarmed. "You said choosing."

"I did."

"Then choose now."

Hyunjin didn't hesitate. He stepped in, closed the space Felix hadn't realized was still there, and pressed his forehead to Felix's. Their breath mingled, unsteady, real.

"I choose you," Hyunjin whispered. "Even if it gets me killed. Even if it makes no sense. Especially then."

Felix's eyes shut. For the first time all night, the adrenaline drained out of him and left something else behind. Something warm. Something terrifying.

"Okay," he breathed. And then, because it was the only truth he had left: "I choose you too."

Hyunjin's exhale was almost a laugh. "That's new."

"Shut up," Felix muttered. But he was smiling when he said it.

When Hyunjin kissed him, it wasn't careful. It wasn't calculated. It was a choice made with both hands-messy, certain, alive. Felix caught his jaw, held him there, and kissed him back like he was memorizing the shape of it. Like they had time. Like they'd make time.

They broke apart only when sirens flared again, distant but real.

"We can't stay," Hyunjin said, his thumb tracing Felix's cheekbone.

"No," Felix agreed. He took Hyunjin's hand properly this time, lacing their fingers. "But we're not running."

"We're not?"

Felix looked toward the mouth of the alley, where the first hint of dawn was bleeding gray into the sky. "We're moving. Together."

Hyunjin stared at their joined hands like it was a variable he'd never accounted for. Then he nodded.

"Then let's go."

They slipped out before the light could catch them. No plan. No extraction point. Just two names that weren't in any report yet, walking side by side into whatever came after survival.

No one would find them.

Because ghosts don't leave trails.

And neither do lovers who choose each other in the dark and keep choosing when the sun comes up.

---

By the time the city woke, the story was already changing.

Not about a detective and a ghost.

Not about a chase, or a failed containment.

But about two people who walked out of the shadows holding on-

And didn't let go.

End.
