Drive Home
Waiting for Red to get home seemed as if I was just doing nothing. It felt strongly quiet in my room as it was becoming eerily blank. My eyes were frozen staring at the wall. Red wasn't there to look into my eyes and laugh or snap his fingers in my face. So I just kept staring unable to pull back with the urge of starting at nothing.
Ring
My eyes grew wide as I jumped at the sudden sound of my phone. I let it ring twice so my heart beat could calm down before getting off the couch and answering the call. Looking over to my phone I notice it's Red and I quickly answer it. "Red's, ares you's okay man!?" I asked franticly. "Oh what, yeah I'm alright." I sighed in relief. "I just ran into some trouble while I was driving." My sigh then turned into a gasp. "You know how you said the car was kinda messed up, well the tire went out." I let out a grunt. I wasn't mad at Red since I knew I should have brought the car in to fix it earlier. "I already called called a tow truck to pick up the car so could you pick me up." He asked. "Yeah, I's will be there." "Thanks Barney, and you remember where I was going right?" "Yeah" I replied nodded even though he wasn't in the room with me. "Great, I'll be at Walmart, bye" said Red. "Byes."
I hung up the phone and got my keys from the table nearby. I had gotten a rental car about one day ago since I was going to take the car to an auto shop to fix it today. So I was happy got the rental when I did.
Getting into the car I turned the keys and look around at the details of the car. Looking back in the rear view mirror, I backed the car up and turned on the radio. The traffic wasn't to bad today so I was glad. All I could see from the corner of my eye was buildings, other cars, and rows of trees. I still had some day light and when I came back with Red it was possible for the sky to look much darker. I get to a stop light and rest my hand against the glass window. It was cold to the touch and I couldn't help but worry about Red possibly being cold walking to Walmart. I quicken my pace there as guilt and worry washes over me.
After the extended drive, I drove into the Walmart parking lot. It only took around fifteen minutes to get here and it was about five pm. I locked the car and walked towards the entrance; hoping I hadn't took to long.
The air around me was seeming to get cooler as I walked into Walmart. Once I walk in, I looked over to the benches that were at the entrance. That's when I was his. Red was staring at his phone with most of his face hidden looking down. I smile at his being oblivious to my presence. Slowly walking over, I sat next to him trying to hold in my laughter. I was pondering whether I should scared him or not. If I did he might yelp and leave the store feeling embarrassed. So I decided not to and simply put an arm around his shoulders; holding in my laughter. Red shot up from his phone and looked at my arm that was swung around him then to me. His stare went from confusion to glee and could tell from the second he saw me, his eyes lite up.
"Barney!" He said dragging me into a strong hug. I hugged back just as strongly letting his chin sit on my shoulders. "Red, are you's okay?" I asked in a normal tone. He's been for a while, I just wanted to know if everything was okay whenever he had to walk here. "Yeah, I made it here fine. And thanks for picking me." Red said to me. "No's problems Red."
We made our way out of the store let the automatic doors open. Walking towards the car, Red decided to sit in the passengers seat while I drove. "Ares you's tired?" I asked still feeling guilty about not being the care into the auto shop earlier. "I'm fine Barney." he assures me while laughing. "I've just been bored that's all." Red finished. The sky was slowly becoming darker as I turn of my head lights. "So's did you's buy anythings?" I asked Red as he changed the expression on his face. "Why yes In fact I did." he said reaching into his left jacket pocket. He than took out a Hershey bar and gave me a piece. "Here I resisted the urge and saved some for you." He said with a smile. "Oh, why's thanks you's good man." I said in a slightly different voice and took it out of his hand. I noticed he had bitten into it already but I didn't mind. I step on the brakes arriving at a red light and take a bit of my chocolate candy. I looking over to Red; he was looking out the window and I couldn't clearly see him from the windows reflection.
I was about six minutes from home when I realized Red was asleep. I didn't know how long he had been resting, but he let out small breaths as I drive now in silence. We had put blankets in the back just we had got cold. So I decided when I get to a red light to reach in the back and get one for him. When the time came I quickly grabbed the blanket from the back seat and unfolded in onto Red. It was a green blanket with no details on it, just a simple green design all over. I looked over at him to see if seemed comfortable. To me he did and in looked over at his smiling at his features.
I pulled into my parking space and turned off the car. I looked over to Red refusing to wake him since he'll wake up, then struggle to fall asleep again. I exit out of the car and run over to my front door, open it, then leave it open. Going over to Red's side I unbuckle his seat belt and carry him with his head resting on my shoulder. I close his door and lock the car while Red mumbles and raps his arms around my shoulder with his head now rests on his arm. I checked and he was still asleep, he just repositioned himself to stay more comfortable. I walk into my front door and shut the door behind me. I turn on the lights in the hall and walk into Red's room to lay him down. Leaving the lights off in his room, I lay him down with the green blanket he held onto. Looking down on him I rub his forehead before I walkout and look back. "Goodnights Red."
