Angels are Worse than Demons
"Lena." A calm voice called. "Lena dear open your eyes."
'But it's so peaceful.' I thought. 'So calm.'
"Purest Lena open your eyes." I felt like I was floating and I opened my eyes.
"Where....where am I?" I asked as I opened my eyes to see what looked like cinematic records.
"Look at your past. Most shines brightly but some is shrouded in darkness. Let me show you what you want to see." I reached out to one and touched it. As soon as my hand touched it a warm glow. "So this is the one you wish to see." The light seemed to swallowed me up.
~
"Lena darling! Where are you going so early in the morning?" My mother's voice called.
The younger me turned toward her. "I'm meeting William by the lake!"
"I see. Are you going to help him today?"
I shook my head. "Nope! I get to do it on my own today!"
Mother's smile fell slightly. "Oh, alright. Be careful my darling."
Little me nodded. "Alright mother! I've got to go or I'll be late!"
"I'll see you this evening."
'No! Don't go! Stay home Lena.' I thought as the little me waved goodbye and ran away. 'No come back, or you'll never see her again!'
The image switched. My mother's bloodied corpse seemed just as scary as when it actually happened...
The younger me disappeared and I stood in her place. "Mom!" I reached out to her but couldn't move. "Mom please don't leave me alone again!"
"She's gone purest child." I turned to see the angel and growled.
~
I shot up from the couch I was on. "You've awoken purest reaper." I didn't even have to look.
"Why me? Why him? Why are you doing this Angela?"
"I can make you both as pure as snow." I heard her coming closer so I turned.
I saw we were in reaper's library. I also saw Ciel asleep on the couch. "Ciel!"
"You only need to relax pure one." I wanted to run to him. I wanted to wake him up and throw my arms around him, but I couldn't. I couldn't move. I couldn't run to him. White feathers wings wrapped around me blocking my view of everything outside. I felt her hand rest against my forehead. "Rest for now dear, Lena." My eyes disobediently closed as I fell back into darkness.
I went back to that scene. My stomach churned as I fell and did the on thing I could. I puked.
~
(Sebastian)
We teleported onto a platform. "Master!" I called.
"Gah! This is the Grim Reaper library!" Grell said as he looked around. "I don't know if you're aware but this is where cinematic records are housed."
I didn't say a word as I started walking toward the large building in front of us. It didn't take very long to reach it and I opened the door dodging a death scythe in the process. "As I suspected it is you." William T. Spears said pushing his glasses with the as for mentioned scythe. "I thought I smelled a rat."
"Will!" Grell exclaimed.
"To think a demon would have the nerve to set foot in here."
"No hold on Will! I'm looking for the doomsday books like you ordered!"
"What a shame. A Grim Reaper, and you invited this filth into our territory. You're a disgrace. Are you actually trying to be demoted even further."
"Gah! What will you do to me now?" Grell said holding up his pathetic excuse for a death scythe.
I decided to step in. "You call me an invading rat, but I do believe you have another infestation to be worrying about." I said coldly.
His eyes widened. "An angel."
"That's right."
"Excellent, it looks like I'll have more overtime tonight."
~
(Ciel)
I awoke to pain in my head and a soft singing. Looking around I saw I was in some type of library. "So you're awake now, are you?"
I turned to see the white haired woman from Houndsworth sitting with Lena's head on her lap, petting her silver hair. "really? It was you, Angela Blanc?"
"How did you enjoy the record of your past? Did it feel like being wrapped in soft velvet ? Or perhaps sandpaper against your skin?"
"Shut up! And don't touch her!" I barked. "The hand I saw. That hand was his, my father's hand. You killed them, didn't you? But why? Why did you kill my parents? What did you stand to gain?" I found myself growing louder and louder.
"Killed? What a disturbing thing to say. I'm not the only one who harmed your parents. But you know that, don't you?" She smirked. "It was your butler. No, it was you, wasn't it? It was you that gave them their second death." I soon realized who the priest really was. "you were rather brilliant. In the face of such a distorted past, you somehow manage to remain sane." She stood up carefully placing Lena to rest on the couch.
"How could you?"
"You are truly an unclean human." She flew closer to me. "But, underneath all those impurities, there's a glow that would be such a shame to extinguish." She forced me to look up at her and wrapped her wings around me. "Well, Ciel, should I alter your unsightly, impure past for you? Will that help you find peace at last?" My eyes widened.
~
(Sebastian)
"An angel, she would indeed have the ability to tamper with the cinematic records." William said as we quickly walked down a hall.
"You mean they can change the past?" I asked.
"I don't even think God can do that. Still an angel can give a false sense of peace."
~
(Lena)
I felt her put me down and the farther she got the more I wanted to attack her. The more she said to him made me want to kill her. "Don't...touch....him." I croaked. She turned to me. "Don't you dare touch him!"
"You've already awakened." She said. "I shall deal with your impurities in a moment."
She turned back just in time for Ciel pushed her back. "Nice try, but you're the reason I'm impure." She only smirked as she reached out to touch him.
'No! She has enough power to tamper with his cinematic record. Although she cannot change it, she will give him a sense of false peace. Those who have experienced great trauma enough to break their souls, may wish for all memory of it to be obliterated. However it haunts them forever, no matter what. An angel's power leaves the past unchanged, instead manipulating your impression of it. To make you think it wasn't so negative after all.'
I found myself behind Ciel, catching him as he fell backwards. "I told you not to touch him." I growled.
"There is your impurities little reaper. The hatred you harbor." She said. "I will make you the purest being alive."
My body froze when she said that. "Why? Why me?"
"Because you are meant to be my champion."
"What does that mean?" I yelled.
"Soon you will find out. Very soon." Before I knew what was happening I felt her hand touch me again and my body went limp.
~
I collapsed at the sight of my mother's corpse. My sobs grew louder as I finally had enough of this scene. "Lena, dearest daughter, please stop crying." Her voice made me look up to see I was in a field. The blue sky rained feathers. And there stood my mother. She looked just like she had before her death. Her mid-back length jet black curls blew in the breeze, causing her emerald green eyes to be seen. "Lena, love, you don't have to mourn over me anymore."
"Mother!" I started to run to her but then stopped a few meters away. "But...how is it possible? My mother was killed by a demon!"
"I was, but he no longer lives. You can stop harboring your hatred. We can be together again."
"Mother," I started to walk toward her unconsciously. "I want to be with you."
"And you can. Just let go of your regrets. Let go of your hatred. We can be together body and spirit." She held her hand out to me and I reached out for hit. "Let go of your sorrows and grief."
I froze. "No." I said softly.
"What?" She asked.
"I can't let go."
"Dear, you have to! We can't be together unless you do. Do you not love me?"
"Of course I love you!" I yelled. "But I can't let go of my hatred. I can't let go of my guilt or my sorrow or my regrets." She frowned. "It's what makes me, me. It's what makes me want to protect the people I love!"
"What are you saying?"
"I will never let go of my impurities! Because without them I would never have fallen in love! I would never want to protect him! I would never want to protect anyone I love!"
"Stop it!"
"I refuse to give up my impurities!"
Her image started to fade. "No!" She screamed as she vanished.
I fell to the ground. "I'm sorry mother."
I cried until I heard another name being called. "Ciel!"
'What?' I ran for want seemed like miles until I saw three figures. 'Ciel and those must be his parents.' He was walking unconsciously toward them.
I couldn't move so I did one thing. "Ciel, stop! This isn't real!"
~
(Sebastian. When they all run into the library.)
We ran into the library to see my master, Lena, and the angel. Lena was hovering in the air while the master was in the angels lap. But the worst part is the angel was rewriting their cinematic records. "Master!"
"Lena!" The two reapers behind me yelled.
"Their pasts are being rewritten. Being cleansed. Soon they'll be as pure as the driven snow." The angel said.
"Cleansed?"
"Hatred is painful. No one wants to harbor it in their hearts. They are no different."
"Master!"
I started to run toward my master when William stated. "Don't be hasty. You can't stop her right now. If you do the child's past will be horribly changed, and as a result he will become something less than human." He was trying to hide his emotion by pushing his glasses up.
"Yes, pure as the driven snow."
"My younger master...being purified?" I growled.
"Lena." Grell whispered. Suddenly Lena's cinematic records wrapped around my mastered. "What's happening?"
"She's helping him. How is this happening?" William asked.
I only saw a smirk form on her lips. "This is why I need her as mine!"
~
(Ciel)
I walked toward my parents. I wanted to be with them. No I needed to be with them. "That's right Ciel. Keep going. We don't dare any grudge toward anybody."
"Yes, come closer Ciel. Don't be lead astray by things like hatred and pain." My father said. My parents held there arms out to me.
"Ciel, stop! This isn't real!" I heard Lena's voice in the distance.
"Ciel, bring yourself from all such emotions. Unnecessary. Unclean." What my father said mad me freeze. "What is it Ciel?"
"What's wrong?" My mother asked.
"Ciel!" I turned to see Lena standing there, smiling as soon as she caught my gaze. Seeing her made me feel more confident.
I turned back to my parents. "N-n-no." I took a step back.
"What Ciel?" Mother asked.
"No...I don't...want."
"What are you saying? Please Ciel."
"Even if you...never bore a grudge...but still that has nothing to do with me." I said softly. "Nothing. It cannot change my hatred."
"But Ciel," my father said. "How could you say that."
"Please think about what you're really saying! I thought you loved us, dear." My mother grabbed me by my shoulders.
"I do...I always will." My shoulders started to shake as I cried. "And that's why it hurt so much to lose you. It hurt so much. After that hatred was all I had left."
"Why don't you just let it go." Father said.
"I can't!"
"Ciel..."
"If I let go of hatred, then the person I've been since that day disappears with it. That's not me!"
My mother stepped back. "But darling!" Their images seemed to start to break apart.
I kept seeing their faces sewn together in the fire causing me to scream. I felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist. "Ciel." Lena's voice said softly.
"Please Ciel..." mother begged.
"I won't...let go. I will not let it go. I will not lose my hatred!" I yelled.
My parents disappeared in a blinding light as their screams echoed. I fell to my knees, only to still feel Lena's embrace. "Why didn't you disappear too?" I asked as I leaned into her.
"Because I'm actually here with you, somehow."
I noticed a soft green glow from under the collar of her nuns dress. "Lena..." I pointed to the glow.
"My mother's necklace!" As soon as she pulled out the necklace we were surrounded by the warm green glow.
~
(Lena)
I felt my body fall only to be caught before I hit the ground. "It's alright now Lena." A familiar voice whispered to me.
"William?" My voice came out soft.
"What were you thinking?" He said. "Not only did you rewind your own cinematic records, but some how wove them around that boys and connected both of your state of minds."
"How is that possible?"
"I do not know. It's never been done before." He ruffled my hair slightly and smiled. "You truly amaze me."
"Such horrible unclean heart!" Angela said. "Depraved, stagnant, trapped in the dark! I should never shown you pity!" Sebastian stepped in front of Ciel while William and Grell stood protectively in fro t of me. "Here and now I shall purify you!"
I notice she only looked at Ciel. Sebastian pulled knives from his pocket. "We shall see about that."
"A crime in the library is our jurisdiction." William push up his glasses with a death scythe. "Let us join the fight. Now come with me Grell. Lena you are to stay put." Grell and him got ready to fight.
"What?!" I growled. "That's not fair!" He glared at me slightly causing me to flinch and move closer to Ciel. "Fine." He simply nodded.
"Oh! We will march into battle together then!" Grell cheered happily. "passionate fighting..." He was cut off by my father passing by with a cart full of cinematic records.
"Pardon me! Please move aside! Coming through!" He stopped at a shelf. "Let's see...number eight...number eight."
"Undertaker/ Dad?" Ciel and I said at the same time.
"Hi." He replied with a wave.
"Hey you! What are you doing here?" Grell asked, only to get cut off by William hitting him him with his death scythe.
"Mind your manners idiot. He's a legend. He passed judgment on Robin Hood and sent Marie Antoinnette to hell." William said. "The Grim Reaper who even makes crying children willingly give up their souls."
"How could just creepy old man be a legendary grim re...." Grell stopped when he pulled my father's bangs from over his acid colored eyes. And then he started swooning. "Take me!"
"That's disgusting Grell!" I yelled.
The angel launched into the sky. "You seem busy! I suppose I'll just have to start my purification in the abbey then."
"Running away? Coward!" Sebastian replied.
"You shall see. I'll show you all what happens to a world ruled by impurity. I doubt you'll like it though." Sebastian through knives at her house she faded into the light but they only bounced off. And then she was gone.
"What was that?" Ciel asked grabbing my hand as I pulled him closer to me.
"An angelic seal." William replied.
~
Grell tugged on the door with everything he had but no luck. "Give up Grell!" I groaned loudly.
"It won't open!" He yelled.
"Oh dear. Unfortunately it looks like we've been locked in." Will said with no emotion. Suddenly one of their cinematic records flew off the shelf and open itself to a page. "What is this? It looks like the cinematic record of someone who is in that abbey."
"Seriously?" Grell asked.
"Interesting. 'An angel massacre is descending in an abbey that is near Preston."
"What? An angel of massacre?" Ciel asked.
"S-she going to kill all those people...." I mumbled gripping Ciel's hand tighter.
Father had taken the book from Will and began reading. "Ah, yes, I see it now."
Ciel pulled me as he quickly went to my father and tugged his sleeve. "Stop her now!" He said.
"Ah, master how charitable. I thought your intent was to put a stop to this cult once and for all." Sebastian said causing me to glare at him.
"I don't want to help them." Ciel said turning toward the demon. "But I don't want her to have her way. That is all." I felt his grip on my hand tighten.
"But what are we supposed to do? We can't even find a way out of here!" Grell stated.
"No. Not true." Will said pushing up his glasses with his death scythe. "There is away. We have a tool. The ultimate reaper tool in which we managers have access. This tool, is the Death Bookmark."
"A bookmark?" Ciel asked.
Father chuckled and held up the black and pink bookmark. "And it's pink! Isn't that lovely?"
"I remember that now!" I said suddenly, causing Ciel to jump. "Hehe...Sorry." He only nodded. "You put it in the story and it freezes the character."
My father put the cinematic record causing the writing to stop. "If we use this to halt the story, we can make some editorial changes. The woman in the story happens to be Matilda Simmons. Says here that she is purified in the abbey by the angel, Angela."
Ciel stepped closer. "The sentence brakes off there."
"Hehehe...Oh yes, now I just added that Sebastian Michaelis appears suddenly." He said pulling out a matching pen.
Sebastian suddenly disappeared. "Oh no! Bassy!" Grell yelled.
"The angel took flight as the man inhumanly jumped to the front of the abbey, turning quickly to throw kitchen knives at her. The angel dodged with quick skills and landed." Father read then started writing. "And then William T. Spears and Grell Sutcliff appeared behind her."
Grell and William disappeared leaving me, father, and Ciel in the library. I pulled Ciel to one of the couches and sat down. "Ciel." I said softly.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"After this. After this is all over....won't your contract be complete?" I asked looking down at my lap.
"Lena...I...I'm sorry." He said gently squeezing my hand.
Tears pricked my eyes as I thought about it longer. "Maybe it's for the best. I mean you...you have a fiancé. Even if you weren't going to..to..." I shook my head. "It's wrong...what would have...could have been...would be wrong. Dishonorable and stupid. We're from two...different worlds in more than one way."
"Lena." His voice was quiet. "Look at me."
"No."
His hand slipped under my chin and forced me too look up. "Don't think such things. I would do anything if I could stay with you. I would call off my engagement. I would cross the boundary. Anything to be with you. I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner. Lena, I love you."
"I love you too Ciel." I said as I felt his rest against mine. I felt his warm breath on my face. I reached my hand out to touch his cheek and smiled softly. "I'm sorry this is too late."
"What do you..." I cut him off by pressing my lips onto his.
His kiss was gentle and soft. I laced my hands in his hair and deepened the kiss. I felt if no one else was with us and all I could think about was the feel of his lips on mine. We broke apart panting slightly from the lack of oxygen, and just rested our foreheads against each other with red faces. "Wow." We said at the same time.
"That was one hell of a first kiss, Phantomhive." I said softly.
"I...I...yeah." Was all he could say.
"Hehehe..Wasn't that quite a show!" My father said causing Ciel and I to jump apart.
"Quite." Sebastian replied with a smirk.
"My little Lena's growing up!" Grell yelled happily.
"I do not approve of this." Will said in a brotherly tone.
"Come now William, you can't say it wasn't adorable!" Grell wined.
"Young master we should go." Sebastian said with a bow.
"R-right." He said trying to hide his face.
"We will guide you two out." Will said sternly. "Come. Grell let's go."
Ciel looked back at me. "Goodbye Lena." He said and started walking behind them.
"Goodbye Ciel." I replied softly as his form disappeared.
"Lena dear, don't look so glum." Father said with a gentle smile. "This is not the last time you'll see him."
"But..."
"Trust me dear." He said. "Now let's go home. We can talk about your little show there."
"Hehehe...great." I muttered.
(Ciel)
Sebastian and I stood and examined the rubble. My hands tightened into fist as I thought about what was about to happen. 'Is it over? She plunged me into a bottomless abyss. I don't even know why. And I've only just found my only light to have it disappear from my grasp.'
I slowly turned toward Sebastian and spoke clearly. "A promise is a promise." Sebastian walked closer to me causing me to look up at him. I simply closed my eyes and got ready for him to take my soul. I heard him come closer and was surprised to him fixing my tie. I open my eyes to see him smirking down at me. I grabbed his collar and held it with a tight grasp. "Why Sebastian? Why are you not taking my soul! She has to be dead! Doesn't she?" His smirk only grew causing me to jump back. "There's someone else! Is there?"
He knelt down on one knee. "I'm sorry. I'll be serving you a while longer, master." I stood there shocked. "It's time to leave young master. Maybe you'd like to go visit Ms. Lena."
"In fact I would!" I said proudly, trying to hide my embarrassment.
~
Lena sat down next to me and handed me a beaker with tea in it. "Don't worry, I washed it out extremely well."
"Thank you." I said happily.
"You're very welcome." She replied putting her head on my shoulder.
William T. Spears glared at me and then moved his gaze to the Undertaker. "Out of curiosity, why were you in the library? I was under the impression you were retired from active service."
"He did." Lena mumbled lazily.
"Well this fellow here reminded me of something." Undertaker said taking the tea from a lovestruck Grell. "there were some cinematic records I'd neglected to return."
"You must be kidding?" I said, causing Lena to giggle.
"Certainly not. In fact, now that you mentioned it, two of the books I checked out were about an Earl Phantomhive and his lady wife." I stiffened slightly causing Lena to pick up her head and looked at me with worry filled eyes. "Their true cinematic records, ones that hadn't been touched by avenging angels. Would you like to know what they said, my lord?"
"Father!" Lena said in a scolding manor.
I grabbed her hand in mine and gave a gentle squeeze. "No." I said standing up with Lena in tow. She would be coming to stay with me at the request of her father. I placed my top hat on my head and helped Lena with her coat and walked toward the door. "Now let's go Sebastian, Lena."
"Certainly sir." Sebastian replied picking up Lena's suitcase as he headed toward the door to open it.
Lena raced toward her father and hugged him tightly. "Be good Sweetheart." Undertaker said.
"Always." She replied and proceeding to give a hug to Grell and William and walked back over to me. "Ready!" She chirped. I smiled softly grabbing her hand and leading her out the door.
"Are you sure that was wise?" Sebastian asked a little while later. "I'm sorry master. If you would read the books, you would know who deserved your revenge."
"It's done." I said sternly.
"Feeling sentimental?" Lena asked.
"Not that." I said remembering the way my parents looked sewn together. "It's just..."
'Seeing them again. Being near them once more. You can only dishonor the dead so much.'
"It's just?" Lena asked softly.
"Nothing." I replied.
"Ciel this talk isn't over." She said instantly. "But I won't push for now."
"Thank you." I mumbled.
~
I heard a knock at my chamber door, thinking it was Sebastian coming to help me retire for the evening I said, "Come in."
"Ciel." Her voice caused me look up. Lena stood in the doorway with a book in her hands.
"What's wrong?"
"I know what you were thinking earlier. I feel it too."
"Come sit." I said patting the spot next to me. "Let's talk."
"Please." She said sitting next to me on my bed. "And don't hide anything from me."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finally they kiss!!! Sorry this is took so long, I've been working on it all week. I'll try to have the next chapter done soon.
Bye bye!
