Chapter 12
Marie's POV
I sat on the roof, once again, staring at the night sky. A few days had passed since Toby and I got attacked, but ever since then, nothing bad happened. I got better at farming and caring for animals. Toby doesn't hate me anymore. Actually, he's been my very close friend. I'm still surprised how much he doesn't call me names anymore.
But anyways, the reason why I was on the roof in the first place is because I had a very strange dream. I was in a mansion with a ton of people. One guy had no eyelids; one guy wore goggles; one guy had no face; one guy was a monotone clown; and a little girl was crying blood. Even if it scared the crap out of most people, I somehow felt... comfort. As if I knew them for a long time.
Why am I dreaming of this? I asked myself, sighing. Suddenly, I heard the sound of creaking at my feet. I sat up and saw the familiar mix-match eyes. "Toby!" I nearly shouted, sighing in relief, "Don't scare me like that!"
He smiled and got up, sitting next to me. "Sorry," he said, punching my arm, "I just like scaring you. Your face was priceless!"
I stuck my tongue out at him, giggling a little. We stayed silent for a while, just staring at the stars as we enjoyed each other's company. Then, Toby broke the silence. "What were you doing up here so early at two AM?"
I shrugged. "I had a weird dream. There were weird looking people there in a mansion and it sort of freaked me out. I couldn't go back to sleep afterwards, so I came up here." I turned to him. "What are you doing up here?"
"I saw you come up here. Wanted to check to see if you were okay."
I raised an eyebrow, smirking. "Oh, so you're worried about my safety?" I joked.
Toby rolled his eyes, elbowing my side. "You know what I mean," he joked back, making us laugh.
We went back to the silence before, but the cows mooed with it. To be frank, my dream made me question a lot of things. Why were the people in it so specifically arranged? Why did I create beings like that in my head? But the most important one was the one I thought of the most: Will I ever remember my life again, or do I have to just create a new one?
Ticci-Toby's POV
I stifled my yawn, rubbing my tired eyes. Today was the plan we figure out what Kristi is hiding. Afterwards, Jeff and I were going to bring Marie back by bringing her some of her things. But for now, we need to figure out what Kristi was doing to hurt Marie. As I waited for Jeff to knock on the door, I paced across the room. I wasn't usually so tense, but who wouldn't be?
I heard a soft knock on the door, meaning Jeff was there. I opened it and nodded, earning a nod in return. We tiptoed silently downstairs, skipping any creaky steps. We went to Marie's room and walked in, looking around. I found her favorite hat and grabbed it, putting it down. Jeff grabbed her photo album and we went back upstairs, going to Kristi's room. I heard soft snoring and, as quietly as I could, opened the door. I turned to Jeff and mouthed, "Go in first."
Jeff 'glared' and mouthed back, "You go first."
"Jeff, this isn't the time for this!"
"I don't care! You go in first!"
I rolled my eyes, giving up, and crept in, breathing softer than Kristi is. I looked at the room and saw nothing out of the ordinary. It's too normal, I thought, eyeing Kristi's jacket, She must have something! I reached into her jacket and felt a small, slightly heavy object. I pulled it out to see a disposable phone there. I tapped Jeff's shoulder and motioned him out, closing the door behind us. Mission Accomplished.
Jeff's POV
We went back into Ticci-Toby's room, Kristi's phone in our hands. We, silently, high fived, smiling wide. Well, me smiling wider than usual. "What's in it?" I asked quietly, opening the phone.
The phone lit up only to show a passcode there. Crap, I thought, sitting on the floor, What's her password? It was only numbers and only had five slots. To make matters worse, I only had three chances before it closes for a minute, adding two minutes each time I use my three turns up. I typed in random numbers, getting it wrong. "Let me try," Ticci-Toby insisted, taking the phone.
He tried another set, but got it wrong, too. We did it again four times, each chance a mistake. When we got to nine minutes of lock out time, I grunted in annoyance. "This thing is so annoying!" I whisper-shouted, holding onto it tight. "It'll take ages for us to crack-"
Suddenly, an idea came to me. BEN! He could probably figure this out! I told Toby my plan, earning an agreement. I looked at the time. Two AM. "We better get to bed," Toby suggested, yawning, "You should keep the phone with you. You would have a good hiding spot."
I nodded, putting the phone in my pocket and going back to my room. The hole was still big in the wall. I put the phone in my hoodie drawer, jumping in bed afterwards. I put on my blindfold and fell asleep, feeling glad that we'll have Marie back soon.
