Episode 5
TRIGGER WARNING: HERE THERE BE BLOOD AND GORE. ENTER AT YE OWN RISK. You can read the first portion safely, but when it changes to your P.O.V., it gets bloody. I'll give a summary at the beginning of the next chapter. You have been warned.
*Ben's P.O.V.*
After (y/n) fell asleep in his arms, Ben looked down at her and sighed, brushing some stray hair out of her face. She's even beautiful when she cries... He sighs and looks up through the skylight to see a red sunset.
"We'll make this work, no matter what," he muttered to himself. Eight years of laughing, crying, seething and celebrating together had slowly made him fall for (Y/n). At that moment, she rolled off of Ben's body in her sleep, leaving him cold. Ben grabbed a blanket and draped it over the girl he cared for so much, smiling hopefully. Maybe this will work.
"Ben..."
(Y/n) was whispering his name.
"What is it?" Ben rushed to her side.
"I had a nightmare... There was so much blood... It was... You... You..." She seemed to not want to say what was bothering her, in case it worried Ben, but that troubled him even more. "Please, don't leave me," (Y/n) whimpered. Terror filled her tired eyes.
"I promise that I won't leave you," Ben whispered, laying next to (y/n) on his side and pulling her waist close to him. She adjusted her body in his arms, and fell back asleep, a small, relieved smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. Her usual scent of honey, green tea and mint was comforting to Ben.
How long until Master Luke finds out? More importantly, how long until he finds out...?
The light from the sunset cast beautiful shades of red dancing across (y/n)'s hair, and Ben tried to let it distract him.
How can she be so perfect? So calming?
The moment he thought those words, a skull splitting pain rattled around on the inside of Ben's head.
She's stunningly beautiful... I can see why you like her. It would be a shame if she were to get hurt.
Oh no. Please, no.
Ben hadn't thought that in the small amount of time (y/n) had been inside of his head, creating a weak spot, there was any chance of him being able to see his thoughts. She'd only been in there for moments.
You underestimate my power.
Ben's eyes were squinted shut and his teeth were clenched as he tried to cope with the pain.
Please, leave (y/n) alone. Ben thought, projecting to the voice.
You know what I want, Ben Solo. With every word, the voice sent shivers down Ben's spine.
I just got her, I can't leave her now.
Would you rather it be her that I torment? Or perhaps I'll kill her in front of you, just for sport. You know I could do it right now.
(Y/n) started to hover slightly. A threat. She remained asleep, but a pained expression crossed her face.
Eight years of loving her would be wasted.
Fine, I'll do as you wish, but I need your word that (y/n) stays safe. She's the only reason that I'm doing this. If she dies, I back out.
(Y/n)'s sleeping figure gently sank back to the bed, where Ben grabbed her and held her close. This might be the last time he ever gets to do this, so he cherished everything about it. Your soft, (h/c) hair, smooth skin, tempting lips... Then he set you down delicately and stood up.
When you go back to your room you will find a set of robes and a mask. I know you've been working on your own lightsaber for quite some time, but have been using a weak, green crystal under the watchful eyes of your... previous master... so I've provided a new, superior kyber crystal as well. Welcome to the dark side, Kylo Ren.
With an expression of misery, Ben... Kylo... Leaned down and gave his love one last kiss. Then, he fled from her room, feeling his mind begin to change, now that he'd allowed Snoke within it.
*Your P.O.V.*
You awoke to a blood curdling shriek.
Bolting up from your bed, the blanket fell off you, and you realized that Ben had gone. No, no no no... Please be safe... You grabbed your wooden training saber, the closest thing you had to a weapon, and darted out of your room and down the hall, following the screams, which were growing in number and volume.
Please, dear force, let at least Ben be safe... Let him be alright...
As you neared the source of the commotion, the sounds of clashing lightsabers was made obvious to you. Panicking even more, you felt adrenaline rush through your body. You were running faster than you'd ever gone before. Hurdling over knocked over crates and kicking open he door to the training courtyard, you had to keep yourself from puking. The smell alone was enough to make you vomit, but the sight...
The courtyard was bathed in blood. Body parts were hewn about, moans of agony emitting from somewhere. The moans turned into a blood curdling scream and were abruptly cut off by the sound of a lightsaber tearing through flesh. Mingled fog and smoke made it difficult to see, but a faint red glow was visible at the other end of the courtyard. Putting up mind blocks and moving to the shadows, you keep along the walls, making an effort to search for Ben among the faces of your torn apart peers.
You sensed emotional turmoil from whomever held the red lightsaber. As you got closer, their rage and sadness washed over you like a wave, pulling you out to sea and drowning you in the negative feelings. Focusing on doubling up your mental block, you continued to stealthily search for the man you loved.
"You won't find him." A deep, rough, altered voice cut through the smoke and negative atmosphere. It was familiar, but you couldn't place it.
You jumped a bit and held the wooden lightsaber out in front of you. You saw the red glow only feet away from you through the haze, and you watched as the saber easily cut through your only weapon. The mist and smoke suddenly lifted all at once, revealing a tall figure, draped in black and wearing a mask. His lightsaber seemed to have a barely controlled blade, with two crossguard blades as well as the center one. He was taller than you'd expected, so as he walked forwards and backed you into a wall, you felt even more intimidated. When he spoke again, you still couldn't place the voice.
"Ben Solo..." Hesitation. A pause. The deep voiced male seemed to be choosing his words.
"Ben Solo is gone. He is dead."
"NO!" You shouted, and lashed out with your mind.
The body parts that scattered the courtyard began floating a foot off of the ground, as you attempted to pick the man up, off of his feet. Lifting your arm up, you tried to move him, but he only stumbled back a bit. His masked face turned to see the hovering mess, and shook his head.
"Did you think you could defeat me so easily? I am a Knight of Ren. Someone who is not fully trained has no chance of beating me, especially someone so full of the light side."
The man's words were confident, but they lacked conviction. He seemed as if he had been drained. You felt sadness, fear, and hesitation in his heart.
"Then why don't you kill me?" You asked. "You already killed the boy I've loved for years. Send me to be with him."
"I wish that were possible, (Y/n), but I'm afraid that I'll have to leave you alive." The man turned to leave, and you felt a moment of weakness. You quickly forced your way into his mind.
Overwhelming terror. Devastating sorrow. Uncontrollable rage. Kylo Ren.
You pushed deeper, searching to see how he had killed Ben. To your shock, you saw yourself through the eyes of Ben. Cuddling, kissing, training. You only felt desolation. He didn't push you out, he let you see yourself through his eyes. You slowly retracted yourself from his mind.
"Ben?" You questioned quietly.
"My name is Kylo Ren." He said, rage and despair seething from his cloaked body.
"Take off the mask and prove to me that you aren't Ben Solo." You pleaded, stepping towards him.
"You would only see something that would upset you. Is this what you want?" Kylo asked.
After you nodded, he deactivated his lightsaber and hid it within some layer of his robes. He flipped back his hood, and pushed a button on the back of the mask. It made a loud hiss as he removed the helmet and dropped it to the ground. Dark curls. Sad, deep brown eyes. An expressionless gaze. You let out a sob and flung yourself onto his feet, only to be kicked off, causing more weeping, as you laid on the blood of those who were once your peers.
"Ben Solo is dead. My name is Kylo Ren. I do not wish to hurt you, so please run away from here." Hearing his voice caused you to weep even harder. The voice that had helped you, taught you, comforted you, coming out of the person who's just killed so many people.
"Only a coward breaks promises," you managed to mutter in between sobs.
You had no idea, but Ben had to keep himself from rushing over to you and hugging you close. He remembered his promise from earlier. He'd said he wouldn't leave you. He wanted to comfort you and explain why he was doing this, but Snoke was telling him to leave, so he did. He'd given up his life to protect you, and became Kylo Ren.
