Beach
"And I'll fall, and I'll break, and I'll fake," you sing along to the radio. You decided that Dan had been stuck in the house for too long, and wanted to take him to the beach.
"Oh shit," he exclaimed, searching through his bag.
"What?" you ask.
"I forgot sunscreen."
You smirk and take one hand off the wheel, opening your purse. "Got some here."
He sighed in relief and laid back into his chair. The warm air swirled through the car, tranquility filling the silence.
"There it is!" you exclaim, pointing to a parking lot. You could see the small sliver of beach and water from the distance you were from.
"Why did we park so far away?" he asked grabbing his bag.
"I don't know," you reply. "Why? What's wrong?"
"I'd rather not walk that far," he said. You rolled your eyes, smiling.
You both got your things and headed for the shore. Children's laughter and waves crashing floated in the air, good vibes surrounding you.
"Dan! Dan!" a girl screams, running towards Dan. You look over to see a very excited fan.
"Oh hey," he replies, smiling. He looked a bit uncomfortable being bombarded with it, but he seemed happy nonetheless.
"Can you sign my phone case!" she pleaded, flailing her phone and sharpie to and fro. He nodded, taking the pen and signing it.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you," she repeated, excitedly. She ran back to her friend, probably gossiping about what just happened.
"Wow," you say. He agreed with you, sighing.
You both walk to the beach, the sand warm and soft. Seagulls flew across the pale blue sky amongst the clouds.
"Here is a good spot," he spoke up, stopping near a rock. You drop your bag next to it.
He lays out a blanket as you set up an umbrella. Who likes sitting in the pure sun for hours. Not me.
You sit down, him quickly sitting beside you. Resting your head on his shoulder, you watch two children make a sandcastle.
"I love it out here," he whispers to you. You agree.
"I know."
"Thanks for taking me out. Editing can be boring at times."
"I would suppose so."
You both sit there, him searching for something in his bag, and you watching the waves crash.
"Found it!" he exclaimed, smiling. You sit up to see what it was.
"Here," he said handing you the small, black box. Inside was a promise ring and note.
"Thank you," you say to him, pecking him on the cheek. He smiles, dimples showing.
