16 - The Hospital.
I'm sitting up in a hospital bed, waiting for a doctor to come in to wrap my knee. I had fractured my knee cap, and it wasn't going to heal any time soon. Jim is sitting next to me, texting in his phone.
Someone knocks on the door and I see it's just Sebastian. "Hey, how you feelin' Charlie?"
"I've been better," I answer.
Jim walks out of my room and pulls Sebastian with him without another word. What is up with him? I thought we were doing ok...
If I put my ear against the wall, I can just hear their conversation.
"It hasn't even been a week and she's already hurt herself! I've been flipping out anyway. I've already failed as a father," Jim says stressed.
"It wasn't your fault she feel down the steps. You couldn't have stopped it," Sebastian protests.
"But maybe if I told her to take off her heals before she went up-I don't know!"
"Just take s deep breath, it'll be ok."
Another knock come on the door and the doctor enters. "I'm going to wrap your knee, but you need to make an appointment to get a cast."
She walks over to start wrapping, but I stop her. "Can you do me a favor before you start and grab my dad. He's in the hallway. Short, brown hair, suit. Can't miss him."
She smiles and calls him into him into the room. He sits back down next to me and I subconsciously grab his hand. He starts to rub my back, and before I know it, my knee is wrapped.
Jim and Sebastian help me stand and I'm given a pair of crutches. It takes me a while to make it to the car, but we get there fast enough.
I stop Jim before he gets into the car. "You're doing a good job as a dad for your first week. Don't worry about it."
