"Nicole, you are with me on this, right?" My mother asked, breaking the silence between us. "Of course, if it's to save people." I answered, fidgeting with my hands. "I hope you know that to save a million, a few shall be...sacrificed." She said the last word as low as a whisper. I kept quiet.
"They told me they also found it in you. The solution to all these. And Nicole, you know only a few people possess it." She explained, making my heart race. I nodded my head carefully. "And I won't think twice of giving up my daughter for the benefit of the human race. I know you'll understand." She slowly said.
"I-I don't understand. Give me up? Why would you have to do that?" I nervously asked. "You don't know the measures I've taken just to come this far, but now you will." After she said those words, we've already landed.
"I thought we were going to look for them?" I asked, trying to stay calm. "I've sent people to look for them. They'll come around eventually."
We exited the aircraft, entering what seemed to be a laboratory of some sort. "I've never been here before." I said. She continued to walk further inside, leading me to one of the rooms. She stopped infront of the door, looking straight at me. She stepped closer and gave me small hug. "Thank you, Nicole." She whispered before pulling away.
Confused, I entered the room. It looked a lot like the one I woke up in, hospital-like.
A few minutes later, people started to come in. Scientists, who wore white lab gowns and latex gloves. They also had a mask covering their face. "Let's go." One of them said, gripping onto my arm. She pulled out a large syringe, and before I could pull away, pushed it deep into my arm. I hissed in pain. "What is that?!" I shouted when she pulled out the syringe.
Slowly, I felt myself losing control of my legs. I almost toppled over, but one of the white robed people catched me by my arm. "What...what's happening?" I panicked as I didn't feel my legs or arms anymore. I couldn't move!
They placed me on the bed and pushed it out of the room. We passed through hallways and many doors until we stopped infront of one. I wanted to scream, to kick, to just ask for help. But I couldn't move and I felt so hopeless.
We entered the room, and inside were...bodies. They were standing upright against something, tubes attached to their bodies, draining them. Tears started to flow down my cheeks out of fear, out of helplessness.
"Are you sure? She's the Chancellor's daughter!" A faint voice said."Yes, we were ordered to bring her here." The woman said. "But, she's...she's her daughter." The voice said again, as if he was hesitating. "Do you want us to call the Chancellor?" The woman asked. I heard a sigh. "Okay, you can leave her with us."
The people who brought me here started to disperse, leaving me and the other guy inside.
"Nicole!" I heard him whisper. I couldn't speak. I couldn't do anything. "Can you hear me? I'll get you out of here, don't worry." After him saying those words, I realized it was Terrence.
"Terrence? Is there a new one?" A voice asked. "Y-yeah. But I'll handle her." Terrence said. "No, it's okay. I'll do it." The voice agrued, and before I knew it, my bed was being pulled somewhere else.
My eyes focused on Terrence, who seemed farther and farther away by the second. He pursed his lips and mouthed the words, I'll be back.
The guy who wheeled me in transferred me to another bed, not in any way doing it carefully. "You know, I really wish you guys would be asleep when I do this." He shook his head.
Beside us was a clear, empty container that was connected to different tubes. "This is gonna hurt a bit." He chuckled before inserting something into my wrist. My eyes widened as pain shot up from my wrist, a sucking feeling coming from the inserted tube.
He grabbed my other wrist, inserting the same tube. Great, now I'm feeling double the pain. I closed my eyes, just wanting the pain to end.
A soft groan sounded and I opened my eyes to see that the guy fell to the ground, and Terrence was standing there holding a fire extinguisher. "Nicole." He said.
I felt myself getting weaker and weaker as the tubes drained more of whatever it was getting from me. Terrence quickly pulled out the tubes, wrapping my wrists with a gauze. "Terrence, I can hardly move." I said, surprised that I can speak now. "I'll help you, just keep quiet okay?" He comforted me and I nodded my head. He helped me up, hoisting my arm around his neck.
"Where are we going?" I asked, doing my best to move my legs. "Away from WCKD." He simply answered.
We walked through doors and hallways before we reached a big, sealed door. "Aren't there any alarms here? We're escaping and they don't even know." I chuckled softly. "They know by now, but of course I'm ready." He said before turning the handle on the door.
"Hey! Stop right there!" Several people screamed from behind us. I struggled to move my legs faster against the sand, closing my eyes every now and then when sand gets in it.
"Get down!" Terrence said, pulling me down with him. The guards looked around, angered looks on their faces. "They're gone!" One of them shouted, kicking at the sand.
"Come on," Terrence whispered, crawling against the sand. I sighed, still struggling to move my body. "Terrence, thank you." I said as he helped me move. "It's nothing." He smiled.
Once we were far enough from the lab, we started to stand up. As we walked further and further, I started to feel weak again. "Terrence, the woman...what did she inject me with?" I whispered, holding onto his arm. "I don't know, probably an experiment drug. I've never seen these effects before." He said, adjusting my hold on him. I nodded, not having enough energy to talk. "Just hold on, okay?"
We kept on walking for I don't know how long, until I heard Terrence call out to someone. "Help!"
I tried to open my eyes, and I could make out a figure running towards us. "Terrence?" A voice said. I felt myself being transferred from Terrence to someone else, before darkness finally took over me.
