Chapter 13
Tobias' POV
Eric is dead. He's no longer a threat to everyone. No longer a threat to my family. Tris is in the shower and I'm washing our my face in our bathroom. I feel a little dirty, like I have Eric's blood on me, but I have no guilt. My fear is killing the innocent, not the guilty.
While I'm thinking, my mind wanders off to my back. I don't know why, but I feel like I need to look at it. I slip off my shirt and turn around, looking back at the mirror. The first thing I see is my tattoo, but behind all of it, are my scars. The hundreds of lines going up and down my back, the horizontal lines covering it all. The tips off the flames barley go under my waistband, where my scars end. And every time I breathe, the scars and tattoo move up and down in sync.
I sigh and turn my head, leaning on the sink and rubbing my face with one hand. I feel a damp hand touch my chest and I remove my hand to see tris standing there Ina towel with her hair wet and a concerned look on her face. I must have been so zoned out that I didn't notice the shower turn off next to me.
"What's wrong?" She asks and I look down at my feet.
"I will always have a piece of Marcus with me." When I say this she grabs my face, forcing me to look her in the eyes.
"You're nothing like Marcus. You never have been, and you never will be."
"That's not what I meant. I know I'm not like Marcus, I love you and Tiegon too much to hurt you."
Her eyes fill with confusion and she raises an eyebrow, her hand back on my chest. "Then what do you mean?"
"The scars on my back. They are a part of what Marcus did to me, a part of him that I can't t get rid of."
Her eyes soften a little and she hugs me. Her ear is against my chest, her hair getting it a little wet, and her arms wrapped around my waist. I wrap my arms around her, pulling her closer to me.
"These scars are a part of you. They define who you are. Don't be ashamed to have them, you are stronger then anyone here. You dealt with the pain for almost your whole life, and then you had the courage to leave. You had the courage to look your father in the eyes as you chose dauntless. You may think you're a coward for doing that, but you're not. Most people would be too scared to leave in fear that their father would find that and do much worse. And that's what makes you courageous. These scars on your back prove that, so don't be disappointed in them, embrace them." Every feeling of doubt I had at the beginning of her lecture has vanished.
You always know exactly what to say." I whisper and kiss her head.
She pulls back just enough to lean in and kiss me. I move a hand up to her cheek, gently brushing her skin and pushing her damp hair out of the way. I deepen the kiss a little and lean her back slightly.
"Oh gosh, what did I walk in on?" We both pull apart and look at the door to find Shauna looking at us wide-eyed.
I turn so my back isn't facing her, my chest and stomachs in full view. Thank goodness she's married.
"I just wanted to tell you that the doctors need you. Nothing bad happened so don't worry." I forgot that she's a nurse, erudite doctors must've told her.
"Thank Shauna. We'll be there as soon as possible." She nods and leaves us to get changed.

A nurse is walking Tris and I into Teigons room right now. Tris squeezes my hand a little and I squeeze back, the excitement getting to both of us. We walk into the room to find Teigon and the doctor there. He waves us over and we walk over right away.
"As you may know, we did a surgery to connect a fake leg to his real one. It is connected to his knee by metal, meaning it cannot be taken off. You will simply add a different part to the fake leg as Teigon grows." We nod, "I'm going to show you how to change the gauze correctly, which will need to be changed every three hours, then you can take him home."
Tris' eyes light up and I smile a genuine smile, something that hasn't happened in a while. We will get to take our little boy home.

We are about to walk through the doors of dauntless, Teigon in my arms. His leg didn't look too bad, just inflamed with a few healing scars around his fake leg.
Tris opens the doors and we walk in. We make our way to the cafeteria. Before we walk in, I hand Teigon to Tris and get in front of her, making sure to surprise our friends.
We walk in and our friends immediately look at us. I look around and also find Natalie looking at us with pavan by her side. This is the perfect moment. I love to the side and the first thing I see is Natalie running towards us.
