"Are we going to address the elephant in the room?"
"I didn't know Michael was here." Luke scoffed and looked at Stevie questionably.
"If you don't want to talk ab-"
"I wasn't sure if you wanted to." Luke honestly told Stevie. Whatever her friends were referring to back when they'd met them a few minutes ago was obviously very personal. Luke didn't know if Stevie was ready to open up to him yet and he assumed she wasn't. She was a very shy and quiet person and Luke just thought that she wasn't ready.
"Well, I don't want you to think I'm a serial killer of some type because of how sketchy and awkward everyone is being around me." Stevie laughed at that thought.
Luke knew that there was no way in hell Stevie could be a fucking serial killer because she couldn't hurt a fly even if she wanted to.
"I didn't, not until now anyway." He joked while backing away slowly from Stevie but then laughed and moved back next to her. He poked at her.
"If you want me to tell you you're going to have to take this seriously Luke." Stevie said sternly. For some reason she trusted Luke and she didn't want him to think poorly of her. She wanted him to know.
"Yeah, I'm sorry." Luke said. "Do you want to sit down?" He suggested as they walked past a little cafe in the middle of the park. It was pretty busy and Luke hoped no one would notice him. He really wanted to know what Stevie had to tell him. Luke was just happy that Stevie felt that she could trust him. He was wearing sunglasses and a fedora. He really hated wearing it but it was the only way for fans not to recognize him. He really did appreciate and love his fans but he also wanted his privacy at times, especially when he was with girls or more specifically a girl he liked.
He led Stevie over to one of the tables at the cafe. He thought it'd be best to order a drink. Luke knew it would be an intense conversation and didn't want his throat to dry up. So that's what he did, he ordered two cokes: one for himself and the other for Stevie.
Luke had noticed Stevie had been silent the past few minutes and didn't know what that meant. He wasn't sure if she still wanted to tell him whatever she was going to.
"Look, Stevie you don't have to tell me if yo-"
"No Luke, I do. I just need a minute." Stevie reassured him by placing her hand on top of his.
Luke was shocked but enjoyed it while it lasted because a couple of seconds later she removed her hand from his and placed her head in the palm of her hands. She needed to take her time.
"I don't even know where to start." Stevie laughed. "It's such a fucked up story." Stevie swore and that was a shock to Luke, she always got mad at him whenever he swore.
"It's OK, take your time."
"Alright. OK." Stevie began. "When I was about 15, I met a guy." Stevie laughed at that thought because all stories started with a girl meets boy or vice versa.
"His name was Jack and we hit it off instantly, within the next few weeks we became best friends. And about a year later we began dating." Luke cringed at the thought of Stevie being with anyone else.
"We had a great 9 months together. We were the best of friends and everything was going great. Until one day, Jack told me he cheated on me."
"Stevie-" Luke wanted to say that she didn't deserve to be treated like that or be with someone who did something like that to her and Stevie knew he was going to say that so she stopped him.
"It's OK. Basically after that I turned into what people would call, a slut. I started hooking up with random guys, who's names I can't remember. I did all types of drugs and I got drunk almost every night. I think it was my way of trying to get back at Jack because he broke my heart. I loved him, so much. He was, he was everything to me."
Luke hated hearing Stevie say these things because he couldn't imagine her like that. She was so innocent to him. And the way she talked about Jack made him sad.
"One day, Tony took me home from a club and I was pissed drunk and stoned. I think the only reason I left the club was because Tone yelled at me. He'd never yelled at me before and I think it genuinely scared me. When I got home my Mum was sitting at the table crying. I thought it was because she was happy to see I was alive and alright. She hugged me, like she's never hugged me before- ever. Then she made me sit down and told me..."
Luke looked at Stevie and could tell that she was struggling with her words. She was staring at Luke almost asking him for permission to continue.
"That night my Mother told me that Jack... Jack died."
Luke took Stevie's hands and started rubbing circles on her hand. He wanted to let her know that he was there for her. He'd always be there for her.
"He died from a subarachnoid hemorrhage. It's basically bleeding around the outside of the brain or something like that, I don't exactly know. But I knew Jack had seizures a lot they freaked me out. He said it was because of his diabetes but turns out he didn't even have that." Stevie explained. "He had an older brother who died when he was two from a subarachnoid hemorrhage and I didn't know it was hereditary. But it obviously was because Jack's father and brother and him all had it. Because Jack never, ever cheated on me: he just said he did because he knew I'd break up with him. He knew because when I was younger I got sick at school and went home early. No one was supposed to be home, but my Mum was. She was in her room naked with a guy who wasn't my Dad. And it destroyed me. I didn't know what to do. I was 7 for God's sake." Luke cringed at all of this, he didn't know Stevie had to go through all of this.
"I never told my Dad or anyone besides Jack and I guess you now. He used my weakness against me because he knew he was slowly dying and wanted me to hate him rather than love him when he died. Because, because he thought it'd make it easier for me to accept his death. He told my Mum all of this, I don't know why. They were close when we dated but I didn't think that they were that close. So after Jack died and I found out the truth about everything, I left school for a couple of months and only came back for graduation. I still did the course work so I didn't miss anything. And I guess that's all." Stevie finished at looked at Luke.
"Stevie I'm so sorry, Jack seemed like a decent lad." Luke told her, and he did truly feel that way. He knew that he could never live up to what Jack did for Stevie.
"He was and that's what my tattoo is." Stevie laughed at how Luke basically read out her tattoo.
"What?" Luke asked.
"Jack the Lad." Stevie said lifting her shirt up and revealing her tattoo. Luke stared in awe at her.
"Jack had the same tattoo on him, it was on his arm. I got it to always remind me of my best friend."
"Doesn't Jack the Lad mean..." Luke trailed off.
"A stereotypical bad boy. Yeah, it does Jack thought he was. But to be honest I think he just got it because it's his name." Stevie laughed.
"I'm really sorry for your loss." Luke told her.
"Yeah, me too."
