"Luke seriously don't have to pay."
"Stevie." Luke mocked her. "It's just ice cream." And it was just ice cream to Stevie, he knew it. However it wasn't just ice cream to Luke. It was definitely not just ice cream to him and that was the irony in his statement.
"Well thank you." Stevie smiled as she scooped up some of her cookie dough ice cream, that was her favourite type. Those cookie dough chunks were something that she would die for.
Luke on the other hand had his favourite ice cream: cookies and cream. He was the only one he knew who liked that flavour all the other boys prefer nasty fruit ones.
"I don't mind, we could go out for dinner later? Like after you see all the artists you want to." Luke suggested, he definitely wanted to spend more time with Stevie but didn't know exactly what to do and dinner was the first thing that came to his mind. It would give them a chance to talk more as well and that was what Luke wanted.
Luke could see that the look on Stevie's face meant that she was hesitant about answering his question. He didn't know if he was moving too fast and making her uncomfortable, hell he didn't even know if she was interested in him. It was never this hard for Luke to get a girl before but he knew that Stevie was different, they all were. Every single girl was different but Stevie was the one who intrigued him the most out of all the girls who he'd ever met before.
"I mean just a fr-" Luke began to justify himself.
"Yeah, that sounds great." Stevie interrupted him.
"Really? OK. Good." Luke nervously improvised. He really didn't want to mess up whatever he had with Stevie, even if it was only a friendship (which he kind of hoped it wasn't).
"Hey Stevie!" A familiar voice shouted from a short distance away.
"Riley!" Stevie smiled at her best friend.
"Luke." Riley said dryly, Luke just nodded his head back at her. Stevie found it a bit odd, they didn't dislike each other the last time Stevie checked.
Stevie had been staring at the tense aurora she was getting from Riley and Luke she hadn't realized that a bunch of other people had also approached her. She looked up and saw lots of faces she hadn't seem in a while. She wasn't thrilled nor disappointed to see them, she was just hesitant by what everyone would say. It had been a long time after all.
"Stevie, it's so good to see you." A red head girl named Myra said to her as she embraced Stevie for a hug, she rubbed her back in the process and Stevie quickly pulled away. She didn't want her pity, she didn't want anyone's pity. She never did.
"Yeah, you too."
Luke sent Stevie a weary look, he didn't know what was going on between Stevie and everyone. Stevie also forgot to introduce Luke to her old classmates.
"Guys this is Luke, Luke this is Myra, Rachel, Tyler and Dylan." I introduced them.
"Nice to meet you, how long have you two been together?" Rachel asked the two of them.
"We- we areen't together." They both said at exactly the same time. It was weird so they both looked up at each other and Stevie awkwardly shifted away from Luke thinking that that was the reason that Rachel assumed they were together.
"Oh, well in that case." Rachel looked at Stevie and then back to her friends. "What are you doing later tonight?" She suggestively said.
"Uh- I uhm-" Luke stammered, he didn't want to hang out with Rachel, he just wanted to be with Stevie, doing whatever.
"He'll be with me." Stevie spoke up. Just because they weren't together didn't mean Rachel could just flirt with him right in front of her. But that was always how Rachel had been, always.
"Hey Stevie, didn't you say we were supposed to meet uh..." Luke gave her a pleading look to let her know that he was improvising for her sake and he needed help.
"Clarice." Stevie improvised and didn't realize how stupid her improvisation was. No one was named Clarice in the century they were in.
Luke gave Stevie an amused look because he as well was shocked at how horrible a fake name she could have come with (no offence to anyone who had that name).
"Sorry." Stevie said as she waved to all her old classmates and gave Riley a hug before whispering. "I'll text you."
Stevie grabbed Luke's hand as she dragged him away.
"Clarice, really?" Luke laughed at her as he look at their intertwined hands.
"Oh shut it."
