15 Birthday
"You ready?" Nick asked me as he open my car door.
I nodded as he took my hand and walked me to something that looked like a church.
"Aren't you gonna ask what we doing here?" He smiled at me and chuckled lightly.
"No," I said softly. I still felt crap after what ever happen earlier. "I trust you."
"That makes me feel better." He kissed my cheek and held a little tighter onto my hand.
Nick lead me to the small garden outside the church where a few head stones were scattered around. What were we doing here?
I held back the urge to ask him as he let go of my hand and walked to a marble stone, crouching down.
Slowly, I followed him and noticed what was written on the stone.
Lee Hunter
Forever In Our Hearts
"If I die my surf board is to be with me"
I tried to swallow the lump in my throat as I realised, he'd brought me to his dads grave.
"It's was his birthday today." Nick broke the silence, his eyes never staying from the words. I walked over and sat beside him, looking into his tearing up eyes. I'd never seen him like this...
"He died after being pronounced brain dead." He pressed him lips into a thin, unreadable line, as I wrapped my arm around him.
"He seemed to be a funny man." I said softly, rereading the words about him and his surf board. Nick smiled at my words, still not looking at me.
"He was." He simply said. "He died just after Katie turned seven."
I felt my heart throb for them, it'd only been a year.
"Hey, chin up, wouldn't want your dad to see you crying." I turned his face to mine and wiped a tear that was about to fall. He chuckled.
"For you, I'll try not to." He kissed my lips lightly.
"What do you normally do when you come down here?" I asked.
Nick looked down, his smile faltering ," as mine dropped realising something was wrong.
"Nick?" I whispered.
"I-I haven't been here since his funeral." He said quietly.
He came here for the first time in a year, and took me...
"That's perfectly understandable, you were upset. I understand, I'm sure he would."
Nick bowed his head and sighed letting a small river run down one cheek. "What would I do with out you, princess?"
"Nothing," I replied with a smile. He laughed at me. "Now what do you want to do? If you haven't been here for a year I'm sure your dads been missing all the juicy stuff that's gone on. Like meeting me, and pushing me off a cliff because you thought it was cheesy and playing me that song."
"Is there a reason all of those have something to do with you?" He laughed.
"Let's face it, I'm the best thing that's happened all year." I smiled at him cheekily.
"You are, so I guess I might tell my dad about you." He smirked.
"Might?!" I pouted.
"Will," Nick corrected. "Your so easy to annoy,"
"No, your just cocky." I told him.
"You know, my dad never liked bitchy girls."
I knew Nick was joking and his dad had passed on, but I still felt like I had to make a good impression on Lee. I'm weird right.
Nick must of seen my smile drop.
"You know I was joking right, princess? I know my dad would love you and your not a bitch. Alissa, however, is, and he warned me about her." His voice began to falter as he spoke.
I started to panic and began to think of words to say to cheer him up.
"Hey, we all make mistakes. Your here now, that's what matters. Now, you gonna tell you dad about me or not?"
Nick chuckled and pressed his lips to my temple. "Of corse, princess."
