Not Just Another Cliché

"Wow Casey. I'm really impressed with your improvement. You're walking and all now yeah?" Caseys physiotherapist Sadie asks him.

"Running, actually. Since Monday me and Emily have been going for runs in the morning."

"Once you're not overdoing it I don't see how there is any reason to not do that." Sadie says.

"I'll see you next week Casey." Sadie waves.

"Oh and Casey, I wouldn't expect many more sessions. You seem good to go."

We both smile at Sadie and then I link our fingers and walk out of the hospital and to my car beginning our journey to my house.

"Grab your bags and meet me at the car." I smile pecking Casey on the lips and walking to my front door.

Senior lock in starts at 6 and it's now 5:15 but I have to collect Seth and Holly first and then go school.

I walk into the kitchen and sit down at the table beside my mom and dad.

"Hey, how was physio?" My mom asks placing her hand on mine.

"Great. Sadie said there's a great improvement." I explain.

"That's good to hear." My dad smiles.

My mom sends my dad a look and he nods slightly and then my mom turns her attention to me.

"So Em, we were talking and I'm not accepting the abroad promotion." My mom tells me and I furrow my eyebrows.

"No mom. You can't do that. I'm almost 18. I can stay in Julliard. I was gonna be alone in the world eventually, what better time than now?"

"We know we can trust you. But you aren't the reason I turned it down." My mom says with a small smile forming.

"A new job has opened up in LA. Your dad and Meg will be staying here and as often as I can, I'll try get home every second night. I'll be home every Friday until Monday but working Monday nights until Thursday mornings. At first it'll be a challenge but I know if we work together, it'd be a walk in the park for us." My mom explains.

I smile and hug my mom, "wow mom, that's great. I'm really happy for you. I better get going anyway."

I make my way upstairs and grab my already packed bags and then run back downstairs where Casey is already waiting with my parents.

I smile when I get to the bottom of the stairs.

"What happened to meet me at the car?" I chuckle when Casey says that.

"Hey, I may not be a cliché but I'm still a girl." I say making my mom chuckle.

"Bye guys. Have a great time and congratulations with the physio Case. Great improvement I hear." My mom says standing in front of Casey.

"Thanks Rachel. I'm chuffed."

"We better get going anyway. See you tomorrow. Love you." I say kissing my mom and dad on the cheek.

"Have a great time baby. Bye Casey."

Chorus of goodbyes are repeated until we are in the car travelling to Seths house where Holly and Seth are waiting.

We arrive outside Seths to find Holly sitting on Seths lap making out deeply.

I looks at Casey and laugh and he lowers down the window and screams making all by passers eye him.

"One mistake was enough coming from the Mitchell family. Use protection!" He belts out and I hit him gently as he breaks his heart laughing.

Seth and Holly finally pull themselves away from each other and get in the back of the car as I start driving.

"You're a prick." Seth whines as he hits Casey in the back of the head not stopping Casey from laughing.

"Take your boyfriend Emily." Holly says but I can tell she's clearly enjoying the boys teases.

We arrive at the school and grab our bags then walk in the main doors where everyone is all giggly while waiting for the chaperones to show up and tell us where we are crashing.

"I'm gonna go sign in." I say and Holly tags along as girls have to sign in separately than guys.

"Emily Hunter and Holly Collins." I smile at one of the moms as she ticks our names off the list and smiles while handing us wristbands with the class number we are staying in with our names on it.

"Have a great time girls." She smiles as we walk off.

We meet the guys and sit down on our bags with everyone else while Jamie joins us.

"What room are the guys in?" Holly questions.

"2. Girls?" Jamie answers.

"3. Looks like we are neighbours." I smile and lie on Casey.

"So Case, will you be playing our final game against Woodacre High?" Jamie asks Casey.

"I don't know Jay. I hope so but I don't wanna ruin any chances of Kentucky."

"Well it's up to you obviously. We'd be lost without you though."

"It's our last game together as well Case. Last time the girls will be cheering us on. It would be awful if you missed it." Seth joins in.

"Guys I wanna play as much as you do. But if things end bad that's my whole future on the line. I can't take the chance. But with that said, Sadie says I'm approving and I have a week or two left of physio which is 4 sessions before the game so maybe a miracle will happen. Who knows?"

"Can all seniors gather in the gym for a couple minutes please." Our year form yells gathering everyones attention making us all walk to the gym.

I stand beside my friends while the leader of this whole thing begins talking.

"Okay so the rooms you were all applied to are not in use anymore so that means everyone is gathered in the gymnasium for the lock-in." Melissa announces and everyone cheers.

"All chaperones will be in the teachers lounge and will check in every couple minutes. You have access to the courtyard, games room and any other useful facilities but anyone who misleads the rules will be kicked out and parents will be called. If you follow the basic rules I'm sure tonight will be fun and easy for both of us. Enjoy your night." She smiles stepping down from the stage and walking out with the other chaperones as the students erupt with chat.

"So what do you guys wanna do first?" Seth asks us.

We all start to think and then I smile with an idea.

"Do you remember in sophomore year when we had our sophomore olympics that we created for just us? I think we should have senior olympics. And what better time than senior lock-in." I smile.

"That's a great idea Em." Holly smiles as she starts dragging Seth to the games room with Jamie trailing behind them.

"You coming?" I ask Casey and he nods with a smirk as he throws me over his shoulder ignoring my squeals and the looks from other seniors.

"Casey Tyler St Cloud I will kill you and you won't have to worry about not being able to walk again!" I scream as we make it to the games room as I kick my legs and hit his back with a response of him and everyone else chuckling.

"Em you are so oblivious." Seth says as he puts a quarter in the foosball table.

"He carried you to show he has strength to do it." Jamie smiles.

I look up at Casey and he smiles, "not only have I been running with you and physio with Sadie, but I've been working out with the guys after school. You know, lifting weights, treadmills, the ushe." He explains.

"Casey that's amazing. I love you." I say grabbing his cheek and standing on my toes to peck him on the lips.

"Okay who's playing first game?" Holly asks breaking our kiss.

"Me and Em." Casey says grabbing my hand and letting go when we reach the table allowing us to go to each end.

"Ready." Seth begins.

"Steady." Jamie continues.

"Go." Holly finishes dropping the White plastic ball into the middle of the table allowing me and Casey to fight for it whole moving the little men.

Minutes pass without any of us scoring because we are both so competitive.

"I'm gonna sneeze. Time out. Time out." Casey says moving his sticks and leaving a nice space perfect for a goal and then SCORE!

"Yes!" I scream with enthusiasm.

"Hey that's not fair. I called time out." Casey defends.

"No time outs in Foosball I'm afraid." Seth says patting Casey on the shoulder.

"Winner number one Emily Hunter." Holly cheers throwing my left arm in the air making me laugh.

"Next up Holly and Seth." Jamie announces.

Just before Holly and Seth begin the game, a soft knock erupts throughout the game room that only includes us in the big enough space.

"Katie?" Holly questions leaning away from the table.

"I'm not here to cause trouble or anything. I just came to thank Emily for sticking up for me the other day against Amber. I really appreciated it. And I'm sorry for everything that ever happened between us. I hope we can graduate with it all behind us and enjoy our last game together." Katie smiles sheepishly.

"Thank you Katie. That's all I ever wanted." I smile in return.

"Well I'll leave you guys to it. Have a good night." She says before tapping the doorframe then walking off then I call her back.

She sticks her head in the door and I walk up to her.

"Do you wanna join us? I assume after the whole Amber thing you guys aren't on the best of terms."

"You could say that." She chuckles and I join in.

"Are you sure?" Katie asks worriedly with hope written on her face and in her bright blue eyes I was always jealous of.

I look back at my friends who nod slightly before turning back to Katie.

"We're sure plus Jamie needs a partner." I smile and she drops her head with a smile then nods.

I grab her hand and pull her over to the rest of the gang.

"Wait, how do you expect to win without any music?" I ask taking my phone out and plugging it into the docking station on the shelf blasting Seasons by Olly Murs.

"That's why I didn't win. I demand a rematch!" Casey says and I chuckle and kiss his cheek as I sit on the table which he is leaning against.

Holly and Seth play leaving Seth the winner and then it's Jamie and Katie.

The game doesn't last long and Katie is the winner in the end.

"What? How? That was like 10 seconds long. How did you learn to play like that?" Holly stutters.

"All about the flick of the wrist." We both say at the same time while using the gesture making everyone laugh.

The final starts and it's me against Seth declaring me the winner while Holly whispers seductive things into his ear to distract him.

Did someone say girl power?

"Let's see how handy your flicking comes in now." Casey whispers as I go against Katie.

"Bring in your sleeping bags guys, this is going to be a doosey." I smirk.

Like mine and Caseys, the game lasts long enough until suddenly I flick my handle hard enough allowing the ball to enter Katies goal declaring me the winner.

"Go Em!" Casey cheers along with Holly and Seth.

"What's next?" Jamie asks sanding beside Katie.

"Oh I know." I smirk.
