Smile
"Ready?" Brandon said as he stared down at the pan which was held tightly in his grip.
"Yep." Callie replied holding an empty plate.
In a quick swift movement Brandon flicked the pan up letting a soft fresh pancake fly into the air.
Callie watched it intensely as she held out the plate.
The pancake flopped down on to the plate gently.
"Yess" Brandon yelled as he held up the pan n celebration.
Callie giggled gently as she looked from the plate to Brandon.
"You know it was such a hypocritical thing to say."
Brandon looked to her confused by what she meant.
Callie shrugged with a smile. "You call them serious pancakes and yet here we are, flipping them across the room to each other."
Brandon smiled slowly then let out a soft chuckle. "That's the point of the serious pancakes, they may not look the best, they may not of been taken to seriously but they taste...like seriousness."
Callie shook her head, he was such a dork.
She placed the plate down on the table and sat down on one of the stools.
"What?" He smiled sitting down beside her.
"Nothing." She continued to shake her head.
Brandon smiled back then looked down at his plate as his smile fades away.
"Are you ok?" He asked quietly.
Callie looked to him with a frown. "Yeah, why?"
"With the whole unadoption thing. Are you good?"
Callie placed her fork down on the side of the plate and stared out the window.
"I'll always have a family." She turned to him. "I'll always have moms and Mariana and Jesus and Jude. And now I have you."
Brandon smiled gently.
"I'm almost eighteen anyway. Maybe it was meant to be this way. I was meant to have a family, and I know I will always have a family. No matter what."
"Yeah. Course."
"We were never brother and sister anyway." She laughed awkwardly. "God, that's weird."
Brandon chuckled back. "I know. Imagine the reaction people will give when we tell them how we met."
Callie laughed again. "It'll be hilarious."
Brandon smiled back with his eyes on her then they drew down to her hand which was rested on the bench In between them.
"Hey." He began as he placed his hand on hers.
Callie looked down at their hands feeling such warmth and comfort from him.
Callie looked up to him. "Yeah"
Brandon didn't say anything else, he didn't finish his sentence. He was so taken by her eyes and beauty that what he was about to say didn't even matter. He just smiled.
