Heart shaped locket
Melissa's POV
I've been dealing with beating after beating for over a month now. I just wanna go back to the group. I feel so scared and alone. I want to be in carls arms again. I want to be laughing with my dad again, but right now, I'm huddled in the corner of a small dark room, praying that they'll feed me for the first time in almost a week. I've become weak. Barely any food at all, and being forced to work, and being beat up everyday doesn't help.
I heard the metal door open and shut. I trembled, until I saw Damien's face come into view. I saw him smile and hand me a couple strawberries. That's the most I've eaten all week. I silently thanked him and he snuck back out. I haven't talked since I got to this torture chamber that is an old abandoned factory. Damien has helped me survive by sneaking in and giving me food and water. No matter how much I've silently protested, he always tried to make sure I was alive. I haven't slept more than five hours in total since I've got here, and I Wouldn't have been alive right now if it wasn't for him.
I ate the strawberries quickly. My stomach grumbled for more, but that's probably the only food I'll get for another week or so- three strawberries.
A man walked in and grabbed my small arm, pulling me up to my feet.
"C'mon, kid. You're mother wants to talk to you." He said. He held my arm tight, sure to leave bruises later. I'm covered in bruises and cuts everywhere.
We got to my mothers room and I was pushed in. I fell to the ground due to how weak I was becoming. My hair was all over my face.
"I know Damien has been sneaking you food." She said. I just looked at her.
"You know what I do to people who don't follow rules. They end up like you." She smirked. She dragged Damien into view. I shook my head and I stood up.
"Please, just let her go. She's your daughter, you can't do this to her! Look at her! she is dying from what you've done to her! Look at the bruises! How can you live with yourself?!" He yelled. She punched him in the face.
I wanted to scream, but I feel like I forgot how to. It's as if not using my voice for a month or two causes you to forget how to speak all together.
"Please... Just let her go and take me... Kill me... I don't care, just leave her alone. She's only fifteen for gods sake!" He yelled, Sara dropped him and walked over to me. I could smell the alcohol In her breath. I backed away. She punched me in the face. I stayed standing up. I cried and punched her in the face. She fell to the ground. Damien ran up to me and sighed. My mother stood back up, but Damien tackled her to the ground.
I silently cried, huddled up in the corner as he knocked her out. He crawled back over to me.
"Are you okay?" He asked. I simply nodded.
"Please talk... I haven't heard your voice in over a month..." He said. I looked up at him. He sighed and stood up, helping me up with him. He led me back to the cold, dark room.
"I'm really sorry. We would escape but there's always guards on watch in this place... What if I escaped, since I'm stronger, and I find your group and tell them where you are. They seem tough enough, they could probably easily take this place down and you and me'll be safe. You'll be with your group again and I will be with you. Deal?" He asked softly. I thought it over. I just wanna see my dad and Carl again.
I nodded and he slightly smiled. I looked up at him, giving him a look that said 'how are you gonna do it?' He knew what I was trying to ask, even if he could barely see my face in this dark room that is just four walls and a roof.
"I'll say I'm going hunting. I'll go back to where we last seen your group, at that house. I'll tell them and lead them back here. I'll go later tomorrow." He smiled. I nodded. He kissed my head and walked out. Damien's seventeen, so he acts like an older brother. He protects me and makes sure I don't get hurt as much as possible.
I laid down on the hard ground and closed my eyes. I opened them and grabbed the golden heart shaped locket, I opened it and saw the pictures of me and Carl. I began to cry, not making any noise that'll attract anyone. I miss Carl and my dad and the group more than anything. I would do anything to be with them again. To be with Carl, in his arms again.
I closed my eyes, shockingly falling asleep.

"Melissa, wake up!" I heard Damien whisper and carefully shake me. I opened my eyes and looked at him.
"I'm going now. Please just hang in there for a while." He said. I nodded and hugged him. He hugged me back, and then walked out.
Damien's POV
I walked out, grabbing my gun and a knife.
"Hey, hey, hey. Where do you think you're going?" A guard asked.
"Oh, I'm going hunting. Sara wanted me to try to get a deer or something to cook." I smiled. He sighed and nodded.
"Go." He said. I walked out. I ran into the woods. I remember the way back to that house Melissa was staying at, so I went back.
By the time I reached the house, the sun was just starting to rise. I left really early in the morning, though, so I wasn't surprised.
I pounded on the door. I heard footsteps, so I know somebody's in there.
"Please! Please I'm innocent! I know where Melissa is! I'm here to help you save her!" I yelled. The door opened and guns were pointed at me,
"Who are you?" A man with a big beard, black hair, and ice blue eyes asked.
"My name is Damien Lents. I'm part of the group that took Melissa- but I've been helping her. They're beating her and starving her. She's not doing so good. I escaped to tell you. You guys need to take the place down... Sara, the leader, took her... You need to kill her or something... Before she kills Melissa." I informed the group. I boy around Melissa's age had hope in his eyes.
"What's Melissa's last name?" A man with long black hair and blue eyes like Melissa's asked.
"Dixon I think. Melissa's mother took her... But if you wanna save her we have to go now. They're gonna notice I'm gone soon." I said. They nodded and got into cars. They brought lots of guns with them.
I gave them directions as they sped to the factory. We arrived and they started getting out of the cars.
"Oh and um... She needs food... And water... And maybe some medical help. She also hasn't talked to anyone since she got here." I said. They nodded. The leader- who's name I know as rick- gave everyone orders.
"You. Get everyone with guns away. Tell them something's happened at the back of the building or some thing while we kill some and get Melissa." Rick said. I nodded and ran inside.
Melissa's POV
I sat In the corner of the room. I began to hear gunshots. I'm not sure what is happening, but I'm worried. Worried that something happened to Damien.
I covered my ears with my hands and cried. I've been doing that a lot lately. I'm becoming weak. I need to stop. Escape or not, I need to be strong. For my own sake and for everyone's around me.
I heard the metal door open and footsteps running in. I backed up so that I was against the wall and opened my eyes. I saw my dad. I cried and hugged him tight.
"Melissa..." He mumbled, probably crying by the sound of his voice. I didn't say anything. "We gotta get out of here, baby girl." He said, I nodded and stood up. We ran, dodging bullets while dad killed people from the factory.
We got outside and I squinted my eyes. I haven't been outside in the sun for over a month. This feels so new to me.
I hate that.
I saw Damien run up to me. "It's over, it's okay now." He hugged me as he said that. I nodded. My dad looked at me and broke down, hugging me. It wasn't until he got a good look at me when he saw how different I must look. I've lost weight and I'm beat up.
"Melissa?" A voice called. I turned around and saw Carl. We had tears running down his face. He ran up to me and hugged me. I cried into his shirt. He hugged me tight, as if I would disappear if he let go.
"I'm sorry... I'm sorry..." He mumbled. I shook my head.
"Carl..." I mumbled. My voice was hoarse due to the fact that I haven't talked in over a month.
Rick walked up to me and put a hand on my shoulder. I turned around and hugged him.
"We should go." He whispered. I looked at dad.
"Is she gone?" I asked dad. He nodded.
"You're safe now." He said. I hugged him.
We got into the cars and I stayed close to Carl. I was still shaking and crying. He had his arms wrapped around me, while I had my head on his shoulder, and Damien had his hand on my arm.
We got back to the house and everyone hugged me. I got to Kayla and she started crying. I hugged her.
"It's late, Melissa, you wanna go to bed?" Carl asked, handing me a blanket. I wrapped the blanket around me and nodded. Dad hugged me and kissed my forehead before I headed upstairs into mine and carls room.
He hugged me right while I cried into his chest.
"You're safe now. It's okay now." He whispered. I sniffled and nodded. I laid down on the bed. Carl laid down beside me and pulled me close, pulling the blanket over us. He kissed me and I cuddled into him.
"I love you, Melissa... So much." He whispered.
"I love you too, Carl." I whispered and went to sleep.
