Dinner
Karlie: "See you tonight!"
Taylor smiled, locking her phone as she ended the conversation with Karlie that confirmed their plans for the night.
She had to shower and pick out her outfit and panic about this date going poorly.
"Shower time Mer." Taylor announced, figuring she could take a long shower to kill some time. She turned the water on hot and didn't come out for thirty minutes. When she did, she had the slight pinkness that one has after taking a shower that was a little too hot. With a towel wrapped around her chest she went to her closet to pick out her outfit, finding herself in a similar situation as a few days ago when she first asked the girl out.
"Olivia. I need your assistance." She said as the white cat rubbed against her legs. "I don't want to do shorts this time. Jeans? No. Maybe a skirt? No. A dress definitely a dress. Red totally. It's kind of stereotypical you know the red dress but I'm doing it anyway. This one with the cut out in the center. Now I need to do shoes. Heels or flats? Heels. White or black? Black. I'll take my black purse to match." Taylor finally finished, her outfit feeling put together. She walked into the bathroom and did her makeup, choosing her signature red lipstick and winged eyeliner.
"Shit. I need to pick up flowers." Taylor remembered as she rushed out of her apartment. She had insisted on picking Karlie up because she had, after all, asked her out. She quickly drove down to the small flower shop nearby so she could be on time.
"Hi, how can I help you?" The young man behind the counter asked as Taylor walked in.
"Hey uh yeah, can I have like your prettiest bouquet of sunflowers. I have a date with this girl and she's way out of my league an- oh god I'm sorry I'm over-sharing." Taylor stopped suddenly.
The man just laughed, "Don't apologize, I'm a florist, the bartender of the first date world. Let me get you those sunflowers."
Taylor smiled, her nerves made her ramble, "Thank you so much."
He came back a couple minutes later having arranged what was undoubtedly a very beautiful bouquet of sunflowers.
"Here you are ma'am." He smiled, handing her the flowers.
"Thank you." Taylor replied, paying for the flowers and tipping the man.
"No problem, good luck on your date."
"Thanks." Taylor smiled as she left.
She looked at the time and sighed a small sigh of relief, she was on schedule.
What if it doesn't go well? What if it's not different than when we always hang out? What if she doesn't feel the connection? No. I got this. It'll be fine. It'll be like the best date ever because we're already bests friends it's like skipping a couple steps because she's already carried me home drunk and woke up with hungover me the next day so we got this. I can totally be Karlie Kloss' girlfriend.
Taylor gave herself this pep talk until she finally arrived at Karlie's apartment building. She was let up immediately seeing as she had been here so many times, so she knocked lightly on the door.
"Hey." Karlie said as she opened the door.
"H-" Taylor stumbled briefly on the small word, "hey."
I can not be Karlie Kloss' girlfriend. Taylor had this follow up thought as Karlie was wearing a black crop top with a matching skirt and ankle boots.
"Th-these are for you." Taylor said, holding the large flowers out for Karlie.
"Oh they're so pretty. You didn't have to get me flowers!" Karlie blushed.
"I know but uh I wanted to," Taylor blushed as she began to explain, "they're um they're sunflowers because you're like an actual sunshine and oh god that's so cheesy." Taylor laughed at herself.
"Aw no that's so cute." Karlie laughed, bending down slightly to kiss Taylor on the cheek, "let me put these in a vase real quick."
So Taylor walked inside with her and waited in the living room while Karlie prepared the flowers.
"Alright let's head out." Karlie smiled, reaching for Taylor's hand.
Taylor took her hand and smiled at the warmth, it somehow felt familiar and newly exciting at the same time.
"So where are you taking me?" Karlie asked as Taylor opened her car door for her.
"Oh I was thinking that really little burger and ice cream place I told you about a little while ago." Taylor replied, the restaurant she mentioned was really cute and had amazing milkshakes and she knew it would make the perfect first date.
"That sounds adorable." Karlie smiled at the idea.
The drove in comfortable silence, both girls kind of nervous.
"We have arrived." Taylor announced as she pulled up to the small restaurant.
"This place is absolutely the cutest." Karlie said as she got out of the car.
"Right? And they have the best milkshakes in the world." Taylor said, nervously reaching out to grasp Karlie's hand again, she had missed the contact.
"I bet they do." Karlie laughed, happily accepting Taylor's hand in her own.
The girls walked inside and quickly settled in, ordering basic cheeseburgers and a milkshake each, Taylor a chocolate and Karlie a strawberry.
They spoke nervously at first, the territory feeling unexplored but they quickly found themselves back into their usual grove of conversation, with a few more touches and more eye contact.
"This is definitely the best burger and the best milkshake I've ever had." Karlie announced, a bite of burger still in her mouth.
"I told you it would be." Taylor laughed, using her thumb to wipe some ketchup off Karlie's face.
"Thank you ma'am." Karlie laughed, using a napkin to more thoroughly do the job.
They continued the date with delicious food and comfortable conversation, enjoying all of it.
"Thank you, enjoy your evening ladies." Their waitress said as they left, hand in hand.
The two drove back to Karlie's apartment, conversation still flowing.
It was like any other hangout except everything felt a little more intense, a little deeper.
"That was very, very fun." Karlie smiled as she held both of Taylor's hands in her own, swinging them slightly.
"It definitely was. And you only got a little bit of ketchup on your very expensive outfit." Taylor laughed, looking at the small stain on Karlie's top.
"How dare you bring that up." Karlie joked.
Both girls laughed until it eventually faded and they looked at each other intently.
Eventually it happened, as most first dates end, they leaned in and, lightly at first, kissed each other. The kiss slowly got more intense, hands found hair and other hands found a waist. It felt like you imagine kissing your best friend would except even better. It was warm and welcoming but also passionate and exciting. What they felt wasn't sparks so much as a fire, comforting and heated.
"Wow." Was all Taylor managed to say when they finally pulled away.
"Yeah. Wow." Karlie agreed, her hands still resting on Taylor's waist.
Both girls smiled as they looked into each other's eyes.
"I think I should go inside now." Karlie said lightly.
"Probably." Taylor agreed, both girls likely thinking the same thing.
"I'll text you soon, okay?" Karlie smiled.
"I'll look forward to it." Taylor smiled.
"Night Tay."
"Night."
