Lunch

Taylor woke up promptly at 8:30am at the sound of her alarm. She had plans with Karlie later and she was finally going to do it.
"I'm ready. I can do this Mer. I can totally ask her out." Taylor said, an explanation to her cat as well as a pep talk for herself.
She quickly took a shower, wanting ample time to get dressed.
"Jeans? No it's too hot. A sundress? Hmmmm. Maybe shorts? Yeah shorts. Andddd which shorts? The white ones? Definitely. Now I need a top. Ohhh the stripey one? Perfect. Alright I think I'm dressed." Taylor smiled, smoothing out her shirt. She decided to shoot a quick text to Karlie real quick just to make sure they were still on.
Taylor: "We're still on for lunch right?"
Karlie: "Yep! Need me to bring anything?"
T: "Just yourself"
K: "Okay see you then :)"
Taylor smiled, excited for the plans.
She headed to the kitchen to make lunch, she went shopping yesterday and everything. She grabbed all the things she needed for a salad and started cutting. Once everything was cut up she threw them in a bowl and put some Italian dressing on it, sticking it in the fridge.
Now that food was taken care of Taylor checked her watch, only to find that she still had thirty minutes until noon, when Karlie was supposed to arrive.
She decided that if she just distracted herself the time would pass by quicker and she wouldn't keep thinking about asking her out. So she turned on the tv. She flipped through the channels, lots of news and sports and daytime talk shows, but nothing that actually looked interesting, so she turned it off. She started to clean up her apartment but it was already near spotless because she had stress cleaned it a few days ago when she decided that she was going to go through with this whole plan. So she decided to read instead. She picked up the first book she found, but it couldn't seem to hold her attention. She grabbed another one, a murder mystery, sure to be interesting, still no luck. She checked her watch again, still twenty minutes until noon. She started a load of laundry, seventeen minutes. Fed her cats, fifteen minutes. Made her bed, twelve minutes. Finally running out of random tasks to complete, she settled back onto the couch and succumbed to her desire to plan out how to ask Karlie on a date.
We've been friends for years, I've got this. I'll just casually bring it up. It's not like I'm some fifteen year old kid asking out my crush who I've only ever talked to once. I'm an adult and I'm asking out my friend because I want to explore deeper feelings. Oh who am I kidding?? I have a huge crush on Karlie and I'm just now finally working up the guts to ask her out. I'll just say it, Hey Kar, do you want to go on a date with me. You know romantically? God that sounds dumb. Karlie do you want to go on a date? Simple. Keep it simple. If she's confused I'll explain if not I'll keep it simple. Easy. Just ask her. If she says no, it'll be fine, you'll be friends and life will go on. Your heart will feel like it's been ripped out of your chest for a while but life will go on.
Feeling sufficiently done with her pep talking and planing she looked at the time again, seven minutes left. Not wanting to continue the thinking process Taylor put on some music. It'd be weird if she was sitting here doing nothing she needs music. So she put on some music, methodically picking out what she wanted to play. She eventually decided on her friend, Ed Sheeran's music. Three minutes. Taylor didn't want to be just staring out of the window waiting so she picked up one of the books that failed to hold her attention earlier, figuring she could keep at it for a least a couple minutes. Suddenly, about two minutes later, she heard a knock, she jumped off the couch with more enthusiasm than she'll ever admit to, and quickly opened the door.
"Hey Taylor!" Karlie smiled.
"H-hey Kar." Taylor said, stuttering only slightly.
The two girls walked inside and Taylor quickly got out the salad and some Diet Cokes.
"So how're my favorite fuzzy cats?" Karlie laughed, lifting Olivia off the ground,
"Wonderful and mischievous as always." Taylor laughed back, hoping her nervousness couldn't be felt.
"Ah just how I left them." Karlie said, finally putting the cat down.
As she did Taylor handed her a bowl and the Coke.
"Thanks Tay." Karlie said, accepting them both before sitting on the couch. They ate lunch, talking about work and friends and gossip and the usual, Taylor never finding a time to ask her.
"Let's watch a movie!" Karlie suggested, grabbing the remote and turning to Netflix.
"Let's." Taylor agreed, smiling at her friend's enthusiasm.
They eventually settled on a movie as Taylor got popcorn. They sat comfortably close to each other, as they always did, and Taylor was unfortunately aware of this fact, as she always was. She made it through the movie though, and two hours later both girls were stretching as Karlie stood up,
"I hate to leave so early but I have to do a small shoot tonight so though I'd love to stay, I'm gonna have to head out." Karlie said, dramatically frowning.
"Nooo," Taylor joked, "fine if you have to."
"I do have to." Karlie said and they both laughed.
Taylor couldn't stop thinking about how she had failed to ask her out but also couldn't help but think this was not a great time.
"Well I'm gonna hit the road." Karlie said and Taylor began walking to the door.
"Bye Tay I'll text you soon okay?" Karlie said as she walked outside.
"Okay perfect." Taylor said as the girl turned away.
Karlie made it two steps before Taylor called out,
"Hey Karlie wait."
"What is it?" Karlie asked, confused at the last minute stop.
"I um I was kinda wondering if you would want to like uh go on a like a date. With me? Maybe. Like a date date. You don't have to it's dumb it's totally du-" Taylor was cut off her rambling, probably for the best because she didn't think she was going to stop anytime soon.
"Taylor. I'd love to go on a date with you. Like a date date." Karlie smiled at how flustered Taylor had become.
"Really?" Taylor's eyes widened, she really didn't think she had a shot.
Karlie walked back up to Taylor and lightly kissed her on the cheek, "Really."
Taylor smiled, the goofy smile of a kid who just got that girl she had a huge crush on to go out with her.
"I have to go to this shoot but I'm sure you'll text me the details?" Karlie asked.
"Yeah totally." Taylor said back quickly, still stumbling over her words.
"Talk to you soon T."
"Talk to you then Kar." Taylor replied, still shocked.
Taylor walked inside after Karlie drove away and celebrated a bit.
"Yes! She said yes!" She danced around.
Now to plan the date.
----------------------------------------------
More fluffiness. Woo! Or not woo! Depending on your preferences. I just really loved the idea of Taylor being super nervous about asking Karlie out so here it is.
What do you guys think? I'd love to hear your opinions. Or other thoughts for new one shots. Or just whatever. I'm not picky.
So much love,
C <3
