One Thing After Another
"Okay babe, I'll see you tonight, I love you." Taylor said, kissing her girlfriend of three years on the cheek.
"I love you too." Karlie replied, heading to a fitting for a big show.
As soon as Karlie left Taylor got dressed, tonight she was going to ask Karlie to marry her and she had big plans for it. Taylor was going to pick up food from the younger girl's favorite restaurant and they were going to have a picnic in Central Park. It would be perfect. She was going to get her favorite flowers and everything. Taylor only had a few hours to get everything ready so she headed out to pick up the fancy wine she knew Karlie liked.
The blonde walked into the small wine shop and quickly headed to the back, ignoring a few stares from people who recognized her. When she got to the spot where the wine usually sat, it was empty.
"No no no please tell me they aren't out." She mumbled to herself.
"Hello ma'am is there anything I can help you with?" Asked the woman who worked there.
"Yes um, do you have any more of this wine?" Taylor asked, pretty sure she knew the answer.
"No sorry, we're all out. Most places don't sell it so it goes pretty fast sometimes." She said.
"Oh okay. That's fine I'll just get something else." The girl asked, not wanting to make a big deal, it was just wine after all, Karlie's favorite wine but wine nonetheless.
"This'll work." She said, picking up something else she knew they both liked.
She paid for the wine and headed home to put it in the fridge so it'd at least be cold.
She checked wine off her little to-do list on her phone.
Next, she was going to bake some cookies, Karlie loved it when she baked her cookies.
Everything goes smoothly so Taylor put them in the oven, and decided to pick out her outfit for tonight while they baked.
"The black or the pink?" Taylor asked, looking at her oldest cat Meredith for an answer.
"You're never any help." She sighed as the cat stretched and went back to sleep.
She eventually settled on the black sundress, but it took her a while to find the right shoes. When she did she realized it had been longer than she thought, and as she feared, she smelled burning.
"Dammit dammit dammit." Taylor said, pulling the blackened cookies out of the oven.
She put the pan down, sighing in frustration.
It's fine. It'll be fine. I can make more. I'll just have to make them quickly so I can still pick up the flowers and the food and come back and get the ring and put it all in the basket. Taylor thought, although she was worried about being on time.
She quickly threw the dough together and put them in the oven, ordering the food over the phone while she waited.
Finally, the cookies are done, this time not burnt, so as she's leaving to pick up the flowers and dinner, she takes one with her. She quickly realizes something is wrong.
"The vanilla. I forgot the vanilla." She says when she figures out what's wrong with it. She has a quick thought to bang her head on her steering wheel but she's driving and she really doesn't need to crash, so she just keeps driving.
The cookies are still fine. I mean it's noticeable obviously but they're not bad. It's not terrible. They'll be fine. It'll be fine.
By the time she's done with her little pep talk she's made it to the flower shop to pick up some Lilies, the same one's she bought for Karlie after she kissed her the first time.
"Hello Taylor, what can I get for you?" The girl behind the counter asked, Taylor was a regular here.
"Yes a bouquet of Lilies please."
The girl frowned, "I'm really sorry, our regular Lilies supplier had a bug problem recently so we can't get anymore until next week."
"Oh. Um okay that's okay. I'll just get something else. Oh uh tulips she likes tulips." Taylor said, feeling her voice waver just a little, but keeping it together.
"It'll be the best tulip bouquet you've seen in your life." The young florist smiled, trying to cheer Taylor up.
"Thank you."
The girl came back with what was admittedly, a very wonderful bouquet of tulips.
"Here you are, tulips."
"Thanks. You're the best at picking them out." Taylor said, not wanting the girl to feel bad, it wasn't her fault after all.
"No problem. Have a good night." She said as Taylor walked out.
She checked flowers off the list, as well as cookies, though she felt as though neither were really a success.
Next was the food. It was already ordered it really couldn't go wrong. Or at least Taylor hoped so.
"Hello."
"Hey, uh order for Taylor?" The blonde asked, hoping nothing was wrong.
"Ah yes here you go." The guy said, handing Taylor a bag of Chinese food.
"Thank you." Taylor said, trying not to sound as excited as she was about something finally going right.
"Enjoy your evening."
Taylor placed the food in the car, and happily checked "dinner" off her list before she drove off, heading home to get everything ready.
When Taylor got home she quickly put the food in the basket along with two glasses, the wine, and the cookies.
"Okay. Now I just need to get dressed and get the ring." Taylor announced to Olivia before walking off to her room. She quickly put on the dress and matching heels. She walked over to get the ring out of its hiding place in one of her shoes.
"No. Come on! Not this." Taylor said, it appeared the ring was not in her shoe. She had moved it multiple times because she'd had it for almost a month and didn't want Karlie to find it.
"This cannot be happening." She had to pick her girlfriend up soon, and the ring was, obviously, very important. Taylor started to go through every place she'd put it, the dresser, no, the box of gross crackers they bought and refuse to eat or throw away, no, the pile of clothes she hasn't put away, no, aha, her jacket pocket.
"Finally! Yes!" Taylor said, sticking it in her purse. She'd be late but at least she had the damn ring.
She put everything in her car, slightly disappointed by the whole thing considering all of it was incorrect but she was going to see her beautiful girl and that's the important part.
Her phone went off,
Karlie 😍: "I'm done babe, you almost here?"
T: "Just leaving, I'm so sorry I was doing something :("
K: "No problem Tay :) I'm not going anywhere"
T: "I love you babe"
K: "I love you too"
When Taylor finally arrived Karlie was waiting outside for her. Taylor quickly hopped out to open her girlfriend's door,
"Hey Kar." Taylor said, kissing the younger girl on the cheek.
"Hey, how was your day?" Karlie asked as she got in.
"It was... Good." Taylor said, not really sure how it went.
"Ah that's go-"
Karlie was interrupted by Taylor almost falling.
"Tay are you alright?" She asked, staring to get out of the car before Taylor just waved at her to stop.
"I'm fine, but it appears I've broken a heel." Taylor said, trying to act like this wasn't the newest on a long list of things that had gone wrong.
"Oh dang those are cute shoes too, I'm sorry babe."
"It's fine, who needs shoes anyway?" She joked.
"Definitely not you." Karlie responded.
"Exactly. Now I have a very special evening planned." Taylor announced, moving on from the broken shoe.
"Oh do you now?"
"I do indeed." Taylor smiled, trying not to notice the dark clouds.
"Well what's the special plan?"
"I can't tell you, that'd ruin it. You can have these though." Taylor said, handing her the tulips from the backseat.
"Aww thanks Taylor." Karlie said, hugging her blonde girlfriend.
"Not a problem in the slightest my love." Taylor said before starting to drive towards Central Park.
"And here we are." Taylor said as she pulled up.
"Central Park?" Karlie asked.
As Taylor pulled the basket from the back she said, "A very special picnic for a very special person."
"Aw you're the cutest." Karlie said, gently kissing Taylor.
"I try." Taylor said, happy something seemed to be working. This was short lived however, because as soon as she began setting things out, the rain came. Not even a little bit of rain, pouring rain. They quickly got everything into the car and sat down. Not even thirty second later, Taylor burst into tears.
"Babe babe, what's wrong?" Karlie asked, reaching for her girlfriend's hand.
"What isn't wrong? I couldn't get the wine, then I burnt the cookies, and the vanilla and the lilies and then I was late and my shoe and now it's raining and it's ruined." Taylor said in between sobs, so fast it was hard to hear.
"Tay. It's going to be alright. We're both here. We can have nice wine another day. I don't know what vanilla or lilies mean. But I'm sure it's okay, we'll have other picnics. I promise. In fact we can picnic in the rain in this car." Karlie comforted her.
"I know but tonight was going to be so perfect and I just it was all planned so well." Taylor cried.
"It's okay, it's okay. It's just a picnic babe."
"No, it was the picnic." Taylor said.
"I don't know what you mean." Karlie said, confusion laced in her voice.
Taylor, still in tears, pulled the small black box out of her purse, "I was going to have the perfect proposal but none of it went right and now I've made it even worse because I've ruined my chances of just trying again and I just wanted to give you the perfect date when I told you that you were the my favorite person in the world and that I just want you to be my wife and I want to wake up next to my sunshine every morning and kiss her even though she still kind of has morning breath and I love you and now I've given you the worst proposal in history." Taylor said, burying her head in her hands, wishing she didn't mess it up so bad,
"Taylor Alison Swift you are the sweetest person on Earth." Karlie said, taking Taylor's face in her own hands, "I don't need the perfect proposal with the perfect wine or the perfect flowers, I need you. Just the fact that you went through all this is more than enough proof that I'd be the luckiest girl ever if I got to marry you. So yes, yes I want you to put that wonderful ring on my finger and I want you to kiss me and I want to get the cold Chinese food and sit here and argue about if we should have a winter or summer wedding or maybe even which character on Grey's Anatomy is the most annoying. I don't care, I just want to be here, with you. My favorite person." Karlie said, never breaking eye contact with Taylor's blue orbs.
"D-do you really mean it? That you want to marry me?" Taylor said, her eyes lit up like she's never heard better news in her life.
"Of course I do. I want nothing more than to be your wife." Karlie said, allowing Taylor to slip the ring onto her finger.
"Thank you for being the best even when I messed up our whole date. I love you so much." Taylor said as she kissed Karlie's hand where she'd just slid on the ring.
"I've never had a more perfect date. I love you too." Karlie said before kissing Taylor, this time on the lips.
