Chapter 22
Alec's POV
An alarm clock went off and Alec reached for his nightstand to turn it off but didn't find it and opened his eyes as he realized the alarm sound wasn't familiar either and he actually wasn't in his own room. He turned off Magnus' alarm clock that was on his desk and turned to see the other boy on the other side of the bed, basically lying against the wall.
"Morning." Magnus mumbled sleepily.
"Morning." Alec replied and sat up, looking at his boyfriend. "You know I don't bite, right?" He asked, commenting on how Magnus was as far away from him as the bed allowed.
"Yeah, but you do kick." Magnus mumbled as he sat up. "Hard."
Alec raised his brows. "I do?"
"Mmhmm." Magnus replied. "I stopped trying to be close to you or touch you but sometimes you smacked and kicked for no reason at all."
"I'm so sorry." Alec said laughing.
"That grin on your face makes it sound very sincere." Magnus pointed out. "We should get ready for school."
"Yeah." Alec agreed. "You think people will notice if I show up in the same clothes as yesterday? And is it noticable that I slept in them?"
Magnus frowned. "You didn't bring any clothes?"
"No." Alec replied. "I forgot."
"Though I doubt people will notice." Magnus said as he got up from the bed. "I mean considering all you wear is black."
Alec rolled his eyes. "Thanks."
Magnus' POV
"Would you look at him." Magnus said with a smile as he saw Alec walking to his locker, opening it and taking out some books.
"Oh, God, the sappyness is killing me." Ragnor said with a groan.
"You mean happiness is killing you?" Magnus said with a smile and nudged his friend's shoulder. "You just have to be so grumpy all the time."
"I'm not grumpy." Ragnor argued. "I'm just not interested in drooling after your boyfriend."
"I'm not asking you to!" Magnus said. "In fact, if you started drooling after my boyfriend, I might have to smack you just a bit."
Ragnor rolled his eyes. "I'm happy for you and you know it, Bane. But we can talk about something else than Alexander Lightwood every now and then, you know?"
"What about Alexander Lightwood?" A voice asked and they both jumpped, turning to see Alec standing next to them, his blue eyes bright and curious.
"Everything." Ragnor replied. "You're all this one talks about." He gestured at Magnus who rolled his eyes but smiled as he noticed the slight blush on Alec's high cheekbones.
"Well, we should get to class." Alec mumbled then. "And you got me now. And I rather talk about anything else than myself."
"Good." Ragnor replied as they all started walking down the hall together. "What do you think about the weather?"
"Really?" Magnus asked. "You're gonna go with the weather?"
Ragnor sighed. "What? You wanna talk about the shade of Alec's eyes? Yes, they are very blue, I know."
"And pretty." Magnus added with a grin.
"I like the weather." Alec mumbled, looking awkward and Magnus couldn't help smiling.
"Yeah, it's nice." Ragnor agreed. "Not too hot but nicely warm enough."
"Mmhmm." Alec agreed.
After school, Magnus made his way to Alec's locker, hoping to find the boy there. He certainly did. Alec was talking to Ryan and Ethan, a couple of jerks. It didn't seem like a chit-chat. Alec seemed pretty pissed and Magnus wasn't sure if he should go between it or not. Then Ethan shoved Alec a bit, it was more like a nudge and hardly moved Alec but that was enough for Magnus to make the decision.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" He yelled, stepping between them.
"Magnus, don't." Alec said, trying to push him aside but Magnus stood still.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Ethan asked instead. "This doesn't involve you."
"Are you copying me? That's so unoriginal." Magnus said. "And damn right you involve me the second you decide to lay a hand on Alec."
"Okay, it really wasn't that bad-..." Alec tried.
"You don't even know what we were talking about." Ryan pointed out. "How about you stop defending him?"
Alec almost growled. "I don't need to be defended, I can-..."
"How about not?" Magnus asked instead. "Just leave him alone already."
Alec sighed. "Magnus-..."
"How about you leave us alone instead?" Ethan asked.
"I will if you stay away from Alec." Magnus said strictly. "Got it?"
"Magnus!" Alec yelled then and for the first time the others registered his voice by falling in silence. "Just.. Leave me alone." He mumbled to the two bullies before glancing at Magnus. "All of you, actually." He said before walking away.
"Alexander?" Magnus said frowning but Alec didn't look back.
"Trouble in paradise?" Ryan asked snickering.
"I'm gonna give you one more chance of shutting the hell up before I punch you." Magnus said before hurrying after his boyfriend who had already made it out of the building. "Alexander! Wait! Come on! What happened?"
Alec turned on his heels quickly. "I thought I said leave me alone."
"Why?" Magnus asked. "I don't understand-..."
"Of course you don't!" Alec screamed. "Because you don't understand me! You're so-.. Out there. Confident. You've dealt with people making comments about it for years and you've held your own! Now let me do the same! I'm only getting used to people reacting that way and the last thing I want is to seem like I need someone to talk for me!"
"Okay, I get it." Magnus said with a sigh. "I'm sorry but-..."
"No, you're not." Alec said. "There's no 'but' after 'I'm sorry', okay? You're either just sorry or you're not."
"What do you want then?" Magnus asked. "You expect me to stand by and watch them bully you?"
"I prefer that, thanks!" Alec said, looking more angry than Magnus had expected.
"Are you out of your mind?" He asked. "You really think that's an option for me?"
"It should be!" Alec said. "You know, maybe they have a point; that didn't include you! I can take care of myself!"
"I don't doubt that!" Magnus said. "I just wanna help if I can, what's so wrong with that?"
"I shouldn't have to explain that to you!" Alec said with a groan. "They already think I'm a loser, I don't wanna be the loser who can't stand on his own feet!"
"There's nothing wrong with getting help, Alexander." Magnus said strictly. "Who cares what they think? I care about you!"
"Well, stop caring so much!" Alec said and Magnus was taken aback. "It's like I'm being humiliated and you just make it worse!"
Magnus was just able to stare for a while. "Are you really so arrogant that you can't stand people standing up for you?"
"It's not arrogance, it's independense!" Alec argued. "The point is that I can take care of myself and I don't need you!"
"You don't need me?" Magnus repeated.
Alec sighed. "I didn't mean it like that-..."
"I got it. Thanks." Magnus said. "But you know, you don't always have to need the people love and yet they'll always be there for you. That's the point."
"Fine. I get it." Alec said. "I just don't want you to meddle. I can take it."
"But you don't have to take it!" Magnus said. "That's why I wanna help you!"
"Don't!" Alec yelled.
"Fine. I won't meddle." Magnus said then. "Consider me completely uninterested." He said before turning around.
"Great! Thanks!" Alec yelled after him with a sarcastic tone and Magnus rolled his eyes.
"Oh, you're so welcome!"
