Epilogue
Alec's POV
"Please, turn the radio off." Alec complained to his sister who was sitting on the passenger's seat while he was driving. "I already have a headache."
"Fine." Isabelle said and leaned over to turn the volume down, but didn't turn it off and Alec glared at her. "What's got you all grumpy today anyway? Had a rough day at work?"
"I'm not grumpy, just tired." Alec said with a sigh, working twice as hard to keep his focus on the road but luckily there wasn't exactly traffic. The streets were pretty clear. "So, you wanna tell me what is this about?"
"What is?" Isabelle asked innocently and turned the rearview mirror to her, checking her lipstick.
"I kinda need that." Alec said, adjusting the mirror back. "And don't play stupid with me, why do you suddenly show up at my workplace and wanna spend time with me?"
"I can't just ask my big brother to have dinner with me?" Isabelle asked him. "That hurts."
"Is everything okay with you?" Alec asked frowning, glancing at his sister quickly before focusing back on the road.
"Yeah, everything's great." Isabelle assured him. "I just wanted to see you, it's been ages."
Alec rolled his eyes. "It's been two days, Izzy. What's up?"
"No, what's up with you?" Isabelle asked. "You act like you don't wanna see me or something."
"It's not that!" Alec said. "You know I love you and I'll always be here if you wanna see me or have dinner or whatever, I just wanna know if there's something.. I should know. Or something you'd like to talk about."
"Fine, maybe I do have something in mind." Isabelle mumbled.
"What's going on?" Alec asked, getting worried.
"I'll tell you once we get to the restaurant, okay?" Isabelle asked. "We can just.. Sit down and talk."
"Does that mean that we can be around more people so I can't get too pissed?" Alec asked. "Just tell me."
"It's not that bad." Isabelle said. "At least I hope you won't get pissed."
"Oh, my God." Alec said then as he parked the car to the parking lot of a restaurant they had went with their parents many times and still seemed to always end up there when hungry. He turned to his sister. "Are you pregnant?"
"What? No!" Isabelle said and got out of the car. "Let's just go."
Alec followed her out, locking the car and hurried after her. "Then tell me what's going on. Is everything okay with you?"
"Just drop it for just a minute, Alec." Isabelle said with a groan. "I told you I would tell you, now take it easy, will you?"
"Fine." Alec agreed, rubbing his temples to ease his headache and for the first time actually payed attention to something else than his sister once they reached the frontdoors. "Wait, are they even open anymore? It seems dark. I swear to God if they're not open.. I'm starving."
"What you are right now is acting like a 12 year old." Isabelle told him. "You get whiny when you're hungry."
"Who doesn't?" Alec pointed out. "But honestly, I don't think they're open."
"Well, let's see." Isabelle said and pulled the handle. The door opened. She gave her brother a smug smile. "See that? Let's go."
"You think they'll still have a table even though we haven't made a reservation?" Alec asked as they walked in, but the reception was empty. "Iz, I really think they're probably not-..."
"Calm down." Isabelle told him, probably for the tenth time the same evening. They walked into the diningroom but it was empty and Alec let out a nervous laugh.
"Did we really just accidentally break in?" He asked. "We need to go." He said, turning to his sister to grab her and hurry out, but the doors to the diningroom behind him were closed and there was no sign of Izzy.
Either this is a scary, creepy and weird dream or my sister just totally betrayed me and decided to get me busted while running off by herself. He thought. Or there's something going on that she knows about and I don't.
Someone cleared his throat behing him and Alec whriled around quickly to see Magnus standing further away.
"What the hell?" He asked and then told himself to start thinking rather than say the first thing that falls out of his mouth.
"Good to see you too." Magnus replied with a laugh.
"What's going on?" Alec asked frowning.
Magnus looked at him like he was disappointed. "You really haven't figured it out?"
Alec looked around. "I have few options in mind."
"And what are they?" Magnus asked curiously.
"None of them are very likely to happen but..." Alec said shrugging. "Well, either you're plotting against me to get me arrested. Or you've dragged me here to murder me because honestly this is starting to seem like a creepy scene from a bad movie. Or maybe this is your and Izzy's idea of a fun Friday night."
Magnus rolled his eyes. "You're an idiot."
"So, what is going on then?" Alec asked, looking around. The place pretty much just looked like a restaurant after closing hours, it was kinda dim. He focused back to his boyfriend who still just stood there. For the first time Alec acknowledged that Magnus was actually dressed really nicely and even looked a little.. Nervous?
No. Wait. Alec thought. Could it be...
"Ah, I finally see the spark of realization in your pretty eyes." Magnus said with a grin and walked up to Alec who was just able to stare. Magnus pulled out a small box from his jacket's pocket, which pretty much confirmed Alec's suspicions. The box was simple and black but it seemed like Magnus had taken his time decorating it with blue and purple glitter.
"Magnus." Alec said slowly, barely getting his voice out. "Is that..."
Magnus just smiled and got down on one knee, which made Alec feel like he should get down as well because it felt weird just standing there. "Alexander-..."
"Are you-..." Alec tried.
"Let me talk." Magnus said and Alec shut up quickly.
"I'm sorry."
Magnus laughed and bit back his grin before continuing. "Alexander Gideon Lightwood, will you make me extremely happy and marry me?" He asked and then seemed to realize he hadn't opened the box yet and quickly pulled it open, revealing a beautiful silver ring.
Alec stared. He could only stare. Yes. The answer was simple. Of course. But was this really happening? "I.. Yeah."
"Yeah?" Magnus repeated grinning.
"I mean yes." Alec said quickly. "Of course. I just.. Woah."
Magnus laughed as he quickly took Alec's hand, sliding the ring on his finger before standing up. "I can't believe you didn't realize it immediately."
"I wasn't.. Expecting this to happen." Alec admitted. "But I realized eventually. And I got my answer ready."
"Good." Magnus said smiling before cupping Alec's face in his hands and kissing him. Alec smiled against his lips, wrapping his arms around his waist. Then Magnus pulled back with a grin. "I think I know what you're thinking."
"What is that?" Alec asked with a laugh.
"That you're disappointed that you didn't actually get food." Magnus replied. "I heard you complaining. I should've ordered something."
Alec laughed and kissed him quickly. "My hunger was kinda forgotten. That wasn't exactly what I was thinking. At all."
"What were you thinking then?" Magnus asked, raising a brow.
Alec bit his lip. "That does this mean I get to call you my fiancé instead of boyfriend."
Magnus smiled widely. "Yes. Yes, it does."
"Okay." Alec just said before leaning in again, kissing him softly. "But now that you mentioned it, I am kinda hungry."
"I knew it." Magnus said with a laugh.
"But don't for a second..." Alec said quietly, kissing his fiancé's cheek. "...think that I'm disappointed. In any way. Because I definitely am not." He said before kissing Magnus who was smiling so widely he couldn't kiss him back properly.
"Good." He said grinning. "And you know, we can always go pick up food."
"It's pretty late though." Alec said. "I don't know if anything's really open anymore."
"We can just order takeaway and tell the delivery guy we just got engaged and get the food for free." Magnus suggested and Alec nodded.
"Sounds like a plan." He agreed, taking Magnus' hand and pulling him with him.
"One more thing." Magnus said then and Alec turned back to him, raising his brows. "You wouldn't have preferred some big, arranged, public proposal or anything?"
Alec laughed. "Do you know me at all? No, I wouldn't have. This was perfect, really."
"Okay, good." Magnus said with a smile. "Me and Izzy both thought you would just get uncomfortable by some fiasko and we wanted to make it as normally as possible. So you wouldn't get suspicious. Which obviously wasn't a problem considering you thought of a scenario where I murdered you before you thought of proposal."
"I-.. Yeah." Alec admitted. "It was a joke though."
"I got it." Magnus said with a laugh. "Anyway, ready to go?"
"Absolutely." Alec agreed and they walked out to the reception where Isabelle was pacing around.
"Oh, my God!" She shrieked as she turned to them and flung herself at Alec, hugging him tightly. "My big brother is engaged!"
"What makes you think I said yes?" Alec asked jokingly.
"The ring on your finger, idiot." Isabelle said as she pulled away.
"Right." Alec mumbled.
"I'm so, so happy." Isabelle said grinning, hugging Magnus as well. "This was a total success. He had no clue."
"I know right?!" Magnus said with a laugh as they pulled away. "He was completely oblivious until the last minute!"
Alec rested his hands on his hips. "I'm standing right here, guys."
"We know." Magnus said, taking his hand and giving him a quick kiss.
"Well, I should get going. Congrats again." Isabelles said then, giving them a smile and walking to the door.
"Wait, where are you going?" Alec asked frowning.
"What? You wanna spend your engagement night with your sister?" Isabelle asked with a laugh. "Besides, I've got a date."
"A date?" Alec repeated. "With who?"
"I know she's your little sister but since we're all adults-..." Magnus started.
"No, who?" Alec interrupted. "I just.. Wanna know. Do I know him?"
Isabelle rolled her eyes but smiled. "No, you don't. And his name is Simon."
"Simon?" Alec repeated. "Well, tell this Simon that-..."
"I'm sure she can take care of herself." Magnus reminded him. "It's just a date."
"And he's very cute. You have nothing to be worried about." Isabelle said with a laugh. "See you guys later!" She said as she walked out of the door. "Have a great night!"
Alec sighed and turned back to Magnus. "Well, back to us..."
"Us?" Magnus repeated grinning.
"We just got engaged, didn't we?" Alec reminded him.
"We surely did." Magnus said nodding.
"You know..." Alec said then and wrapped his arms around Magnus' waist, smiling slightly. "I feel like life has surprised me in so many, amazing ways. But out of all of them, you're definitely the best one."
Magnus smiled, brushing his lips against Alec's. "Right back at you, Alexander."
"I love you." Alec said, holding him more tightly.
"I love you too." Magnus replied and kissed him quickly. "We should get going."
"Yeah, how long did you asked to use the place?" Alec asked with a laugh.
"We.. Didn't exactly ask." Magnus mumbled.
"What?!" Alec yelled.
"Well, no one had to bother to come here to lock up or something after they've all went home! We were actually doing them a favor." Magnus defended himself. "We didn't exactly steal or break anything so.. It's not like we broke in."
"Damn right we didn't break in!" Alec squealed. "You did!"
"Okay, time to go." Magnus said, pulling Alec with him.
"Oh, my God." Alec said with a sigh.
"Let's get you some food." Magnus said as they walked to the car.
"Yeah, cause that makes illegal activity seem great again." Alec replied with a sarcastic tone.
"We'll leave a big tip next time we eat here." Magnus promised.
"Yeah, once we get out of prison." Alec said with a smile.
"We're not gonna get arrested." Magnus told him. "Unless you keep screaming about it. So shut up."
"Oh, make me." Alec said, pulling Magnus to him, making him grin.
"Is that how you wanna play this?" Magnus asked, kissing him and Alec smiled before kissing him back, pulling him against him and slowly deepening the kiss. Then Magnus pulled back. "Maybe we should get away from the crime scene first." He said, quickly walking to the car.
"What?! You said we did nothing wrong!" Alec shrieked.
"We broke into a restaurant!" Magnus hissed.
"Shh!" Alec shushed him. "And may I remind you that was you and my crazy sister?"
"Just get in the car." Magnus said and Alec rolled his eyes.
"You know, when I said I didn't want anything big or public, I thought getting arrested was kinda included in it but I guess I should've mentioned that separately." He said as he walked around the car.
"Just get in the goddamn car, Lightwood." Magnus said with a groan and Alec grinned.
"As you wish, hubby." He said and put his hand on the handle.
"I'm not your husband yet." Magnus pointed out.
"Soon you will be." Alec said with a smirk. "How romantic do you think a prison wedding is?" He asked thoughtfully, leaning against the roof of the car.
"Last time I'm gonna tell you to get in the car." Magnus said and Alec laughed.
"You think getting in the car is gonna make me shut up about this?" He asked.
"At least I hope so." Magnus said with a smile. "You know, we arranged this for you."
"Few year trip to prison?" Alec asked. "Gee, thank you."
"Stop joking about prison." Magnus whispered. "Let's just go."
Alec looked down at the ring on his finger with a smile. "This is so romantic..."
"In the car. Now." Magnus growled and Alec laughed as he opened the door and went in.
