Chapter 19

Alec's POV
Trying to balance his books in his arms, Alec managed to open the door of his locker but then dropped all six books, one of them landing on his foot and he cursed under his breath as he croutched down to gather them all quickly. He just managed to stand up as he was suddenly pulled around and Magnus gripped his shoulders, kissing him hard and Alec dropped his books again. Magnus pulled back with a grin, apparently not even noticing the fallen books.

"What are you doing?" Alec squeaked.

"Happy one month anniversary." Magnus said with smirk.

Alec stared dumbfounded. "We've been together for a month?"

"I hope that means 'man, time flies by' and not 'what the fuck, has this torture gone on for only a month?'" Magnus said and Alec rolled his eyes but smiled.

"I was just surprised it's only been a month." He said shrugging.

"So time goes by slowly or..?" Magnus asked and Alec sighed.

"No, I mean..." He shrugged again and told himself to stop before he would dislocate a shoulder. "I feel like maybe.. We are like.. We could've been together for longer." He admitted and Magnus smiled.

"Really?" He asked and Alec nodded. "Awh." Magnus mumbled, twisting around the hem of Alec's shirt with his fingers before leaning in to kiss him.

Alec smiled against his lips before breaking the kiss. "Can I talk to you after school or something?"

"Sure." Magnus said. "Everything okay?"

"Yeah, definitely." Alec replied with a smile. "I should get to class." He said, completely forgetting his open locker and the books at his feet, tripping over them and falling on his face before Magnus managed to catch him.

"Oh, my God, sweetie." Magnus said quickly before pulling Alec up. "You okay?"

Alec nodded. "Yeah, fine." He said, rubbing his elbow that ached a bit. "I.. Seemed to forget my books." He mumbled and quickly picked them up with Magnus' help before shoving them in his locker and closing the door.

"Well, I'll see you." Magnus said with a laugh. "Sure you didn't hurt yourself?"

"Yeah." Alec said with an embarrassed laugh. "Now I'm actually gonna get to class. I'll see you later."

"See you." Magnus replied and they walked into different directions.

Alec wondered why he had ever worried about getting picked on for being gay when he made a perfectly big of a fool of himself everyday anyway. Compared to all the clumsyness and stupid stuff, liking boys, or more like liking a boy, didn't really seem like anything he should be embarrassed of. Maybe instead he should try to stay on his feet at least at public places.

Soon he reached the classroom and took a seat from the back, it took less than two seconds for someone to sit next to him and he turned to see a familiar girl. Katie?

"Hey." The girl said and Alec smiled slightly.

"Hi." He replied.

"So.. I heard you have a boyfriend." Katie said and Alec knew his pale skin must be showing off his blush again.

"You did? From where? Who said that?" He asked, completely baffled.

"Is it supposed to be a secret?" She asked, raising a brow.

"No." He said. "I'm just.. Surprised that it's a thing that people just.. Hear about."

"Please, it's high school. You think rumors don't spread here?" Katie asked with a laugh.

"Guess I should've known better." Alec admitted. "So.. Was there something you wanted to say about me having a boyfriend?" This was it. He thought. My chance to for once be like Magnus and be proud of who I am and not let anyone walk over me or tell me there's something wrong with me. I can do it. I can stand up for myself. It can't be that hard.

"Not really." Katie said shrugging. "I just thought you could've mentioned it to me when I kinda asked you out."

"Oh." Was all that Alec got out. She had nothing bad, rude or judgemental to say about it? Why did he keep expecting negative things from everyone? Maybe he should start giving other people a bit more credit. "Well.. I didn't exactly have a boyfriend back then." He mumbled.

She laughed. "Well, you could've told me you're looking for a boyfriend instead of a girlfriend."

Alec shrugged. "I wasn't exactly.. Ready to do that."

"Yeah, it's fine really. I get it." Katie said and Alec smiled slightly, he had to admit he was kinda surprised.

After school Alec walked to his locker and suddenly tripped over something, quickly managing to take a hold of the wall not to have a second face-plant of the day and turned to see a group of guys snickering. Just when he had told himself to give people a bit more credit. He stood there, leaning his palm against the wall, almost like waiting for them to try and trip him again or say something rude and they just kept laughing like getting unbalanced was something really that hilarious.

"Hmph." Alec let out a sound and they all quieted down, apparently surprised that he didn't just walk off. "I guess dumb people are easily entertained."

"Excuse me?" One of the guys asked, stepping over to him.

Alec gathered his courage. "Do you have a bad hearing or are you just so stupid that I have to explain the joke to you?"

The guy shoved him back harshly. "Don't talk to me like that, fag."

Alec pushed him back just as hard. "What did you call me?"

"Do you have a bad hearing?" The guy asked with a mocking tone and his friends laughed.

"I will end you, jackass." Alec hissed. "Don't make me do it and just back off."

"You sure you know how to throw a punch?" The guy asked laughing. "Or do you just knit or arrange flowers or something?"

"Wow, that's offensive in so many ways." Alec said with a sigh. "See, that just shows what a goddamn idiot you are. Is punching something that makes you a man? Why don't you go and educate yourself since you seem to be very much left behind."

"Why don't you go back to where you came from instead and not come back?" The guy asked like that was actually a clever thing to say. "Meaning the closet."

"You know, I would, but I happen to like it here." Alec told him. "And as much as I feel like punching your face right now, I have some flower arrangements to do." He said with a smile before walking away.

You did the right thing. He told himself. Don't let them get under your skin. Punching that ugly face wouldn't have helped anyone. You wouldn't have felt any better. Just stay above them.

He opened his locker more harshly than intended and realized just how pissed he actually was. He sighed and repeated the last sentence in his head like a mantra.

Just stay above them.

He organized his books quickly before slamming his locker shut so hard it let out a loud sound and some people turned to look.

Stay above them! I don't care, I don't care, I don't care...

Alec walked out, slamming the door open and storming to his car. He heard a familiar voice clearing his throat and turned to see Magnus standing at the entrence.

"Everything okay? You wanted to talk to me?"

"Oh." Alec said and walked back to him with a sigh. Goddammit, this is not the state of mind where I wanna have this talk.

"Alexander?" Magnus asked carefully. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine." Alec said, more sharply than intended. "Just some.. Jackasses..."

"Oh, no." Magnus said and put his hand on Alec's arm. "What did they say?"

"Nothing important. They're idiots." Alec mumbled.

"You got that right." Magnus replied. "But you can still talk about it if you want to."

"Yeah, I know. I just really don't." Alec said, his tone once again way harsher than he meant it to sound like. As much as he wanted to deny it, those guys really had gotten under his skin. The only good part and the 'staying above them' part was that he hadn't let them see it.

"Then what did you wanna talk about?" Magnus asked. "It seemed important."

"Can we-.. Not do it right now?" Alec asked. "I'm sorry, I'm just not in the mood for that conversation."

Magnus frowned, looking worried, but eventually nodded. "Yeah, okay."

"I'll-..." Alec wasn't sure how to continue. Call you? "...-see you tomorrow."

"See you tomorrow." Magnus repeated and Alec walked away quickly.

AN: So.. I haven't really done cliffhangers but here you kinda have one since you don't know what did Alec wanna talk about HA, I feel surprisingly good about being evil even though I know I would hate me.
Anyway, even if you hate me for ending it like this, Alec sure slayed those bullies.
You all slay, love you, thank you. X

(If you watch Shadowhunters and ship Malec, I know you're screaming because so am I. I'll never get over the last episode aka the episode titled 'Malec'!!!)
