Physically vs. Mentally

It has come to my conclusion that being hurt physically and being hurt mentally are two completely different things. If you are hurt physically, in time, you will heal. But if you are hurt mentally, you may get better over time, yes. But you may never fully recover. It stays with you, the pain. It stays around, coming up at the most random moments like a gun being shot. It hurts immediately, but then you don't worry about the pain. You worry about if you'll live. You put the pain aside to put your focus on what really matters- life or death. But once you realise you'll make it and you won't die, you start to pay more attention to the pain, and it slowly gets worse in worse, until the pain stops. Your wound has been taken care of, you've been numbed by medicine. You're in the care of doctors and nothing should go wrong. You should heal, until you realise you'll always have the scar. The scar will always remind you. Every time you see the scar or limp in pain or walk oddly, it will be like another gun being shot, this time in the same place, before you've completely killed. It's then that you realise it's never going to end. The pain will never completely go away, and you always have a constant reminder, attached to you. You see, mentally being hurt over and over ends up hurting worse than physical pain.
