Chilled morning sunlight shone down, lighting up the area right outside of Sparkfur's stone den. Mothdapple lay, a mostly eaten bird before her, as Briarfrost tried to recreate the "amazing jump" he had done when he caught it.
"Hey Mothdapple, I'm going out to the stream. Have you had anything to drink today?" Sparkfur stalked out of the woods and into the clearing. Mothdapple picked up her head. Maybe I can ask her about Adderface. She must know about her; she's one of the closest cats with Waspstar.
"No, I'll come with you." She stood, and Briarfrost waved his tail as he landed.
"I'm going out to meet Emberfall, Hazelskip, and Squirrelshine at the Fields to practice some battle moves at sun high if you're back by then. You can come, too, Mothdapple! You probably haven't met them, but I was raised with them and you'll get along great; my friends are your friends,." Sparkfur gave a small nod, and Mothdapple felt her heart lurch a little. All of my friends have just been other rogue born cats. No clan born cat has wanted to be my friend, not since now. Adderface, Sparkfur,
"We should be back by then." She murmured, setting off. Mothdapple padded after her, her green eyes wondering to what was ahead. The morning sun weakly pooled in through the treetops, spotting her ginger patched coat with light. Shoots of ivy and grasses poked up from the ground surrounding her path, roots of ancient trees intersecting each other. The bicolor DrizzleClan warrior sighed as she looked ahead to the ginger tabby, her thoughts muddled. I need to know more about Adderface. I'd do anything to get back in camp-- but I guess I should know more about what she really wants me to do.
"Hey, Sparkfur...," Mothdapple murmured, inturrupting the silence between them. The golden tabby glanced over her shoulder, eyes sharp.
"Hm?"
"Do you know.. I mean, obviously you probably know her-- er-- but do you know anything about... Adderface?" Sparkfur turned back to watch the path.
"I do. You'll have to meet her yourself if you want to make your own conclusions though." Mothdapple was silent, and Sparkfur stopped, eyes baring down on the patched warrior. "Unless... you've already met her, haven't you?" She said it more as a statement, not as a question. Mothdapple shrugged as casually as she could.
"It was brief."
"And..? What did she say?" Sparkfur gaze was piercing. She said she's going to get me back into camp as long as I do a favor for her at some point. But Sparkfur's already said she's going to do the same thing-- I don't want her to feel like I'm going behind her back....
"Um... she just.. said hello." Sparkfur quirked a brow, and Mothdapple added on quickly, "she wants to try to know every cat in the clan." The ginger tabby blinked slowly with a small laugh.
"Pfft. Good luck with that. She'll be dead before she can remember everyone."
"So, do you like her? Do you think she's okay?" Sparkfur rolled her eyes with annoyance.
"How have you survived so long if you don't ever draw conclusions for yourself..." she grumbled, and Mothdapple narrowed her eyes.
"Excuse me..?"
"I don't want to tell you what to think." She flicked her white tail tip. "But, I guess, If you really need to know because you can't see something so obvious, she'a not--"
"Sparkfur?" The pair turned around quickly, Sparkfur's fur slightly on end. A small company of cats were padding across the ridge looking over the trail they were traveling, and Mothdapple instantly recognized Adderface, as well as Waspstar.
Sparkfur blinked slowly, and Mothdapple looked between the oncoming group and the scarred warrior. Waspstar's entourage fanned out around him to form a tight semi-circle, Adderface plastered to the large ginger-brown leader's side.
"Waspstar." Sparkfur meowed curtly, beginning to leave.
"Sparkfur, please." The leader's voice was calm, his eyes earnest. Not at all like the cat that kicked me out of camp for nothing.
"Don't 'Sparkfur please' me." She growled, then sighed, flicking her tailtip in the direction of Mothdapple. "This is Mothdapple. I'm sure you might remember her, I don't know. You banned her from camp? The very core of DrizzleClan society?" Waspstar nodded slowly, eyes closed.
"Yes, yes. And I've told you, I can't just let her back in after banning her. There will be infighting--"
"You don't know that." Sparkfur started, and she tensed up with frustration as she spoke. The golden brown patched warrior took a small step back, her eyes lock-in with Adderface who was fondly watching the situation.
"It's a possibility, and I need to be ready for any possibilities." She have a bewildered stare.
"You've got to be kidding me."
"Please, just come back with me. We can talk about whatever is really bothering you--" She shook her head.
"Stop. No. You've wrecked her life, and you don't even care. Now I'm trying to fix your mistake, and you won't let me. Just unban her." Waspstar shook his head.
"I can't. It could start infighting between the rogue born cats and the younger clan born cats."
"More than there already is?" Sparkfur arched a brow challengingly, but he held onto his patience. Adderface rubbed her cheek against Waspstar's shoulder, giving him a green-eyed look that he read and somehow understood.
"Come back to camp with me. We can talk about whatever is--" Sparkfur turned, fur on end and tail lashing.
"StarClan, you're so blinded!" She stalked off quickly without waiting for a reply, leaving Mothdapple with the small assembly.
"I.. sorry." Mothdapple bowed her head apologetically.
"It's okay, Mothdapple. Waspstar is very patient and kind, he understands." Adderface spoke. Her fur was shiny and sleek, every long strand clean and straight.
Waspstar huffed, pushing away from the delicate female.
"For what it's worth, Waspstar, Mothdapple really is a remarkable warrior. If anything, she might become a symbol for all of the infighting to stop; a rogue born cat who has been redeemed because of her worthiness." Waspstar flicked his tail, barely listening.
"Let's go." He growled, padding off darkly in the opposite direction Sparkfur had gone. The cats followed him, though Adderface stayed a moment. Mothdapple looked up at her expectantly.
"...yes..?" The banned warrior meowed just above a whisper.
"I'm going to get you back into camp, and even beyond the Cedar Den. Do you think Sparkfur will even be able to get that first part done?" I'm really not sure-- Sparkfur doesn't seem like she's actually on that good of terms with Waspstar...
"I don't know. Hey, ah... what exactly will that favor be though...? Do you know yet?" Mothdapple shuffled her paws, but Adderface simply purred quietly.
"Mm. You'll know as soon as I call on you. I'm already planning for it, I just need to wait for the right time..." she looked out into the forest before flicking her tail wispy tail and turning. "See you later, Mothdapple." Her voice was smooth and sweet like honey, and she disappeared up over the ridge where Waspstar had parted to.
Sparkfur told me to draw my own conclusions on her... and I really don't know if I can tell if anything is actually bad about her. I feel there's something off-- but everything that I can tell about her is just good things. I can't see the negative, but I can feel it in the air when she speaks and when she moves. I may be flying too close to a spiderweb, and not yet realizing it because the spider is nowhere in sight.
