Chapter 9
Marie's POV
I sat outside on the roof. How I got up there, I don't know. I went outside and the next thing I knew was I was on the roof. I sighed, laying against the slightly comfortable shingles. The stars were bright in the sky, dotting it like sprinkles. The moon was like a smile shining down on me. It felt... oddly comforting and familiar. I felt something roll down my cheeks. I touched it and realized that I was crying. I wiped them away since I didn't want to seem weak. "What does he have against me?" I asked myself angrily, "I didn't do anything."
I heard someone open the door, meaning someone left. "Marie?" Karren's voice called out, "Marie, dear, where are you?" I sat up, leaning slightly over the edge. "I'm up here, Karren," I answered, making her look up.
"Marie, can you come down from there?" she asked, "It's not safe up there." I nodded and got down carefully, landing next to her. Karren smiled at me and said, "Look, sweetie, I'm sorry for the way Tobias acted just now. He's really a sweet boy once you get to know him."
"I don't think I'll get a chance to know him since he won't let me," I mumbled. Karren frowned slightly, rubbing my back. "Hush, now," she said, "I'm sure he'll give you a shot. Now get inside. It's cold out."
I obeyed, walking in the living room. Lilith and Sarah were there, playing with a doll. She looked at me and smiled. "Marie!" she chirped, grabbing my hand, "Come and play dolls with me and Sarah!"
I smiled and nodded, sitting next to them. Lilith gave me a female doll that was dressed in a white dress. She made me play as her, making a small love story out of them. I don't know why, but it reminded me of something. I just couldn't place my finger on it. When we were at a dramatic part, Mark came in and said, "Alright, Lilith. Let's get you to bed." He looked at me and Sarah. "You two should go to bed as well. It's pretty late."
We nodded and went to the rooms. Sarah and I went to her room and I sat on the ground, smiling. "Lilith is so adorable," I said, grabbing the nightgown Sarah gave me, "Is she always like that?" Sarah looked at me and smiled. "She's always like that," she replied, "She loves to play with anyone. She gets along with people great!"
I nodded and we changed, turning the lights off. I laid on the floor, covering myself with the blanket Sarah gave me. I stared at the ceiling, thinking. "Hey, Sarah," I whispered, "Do you think Tobias and I will get along?"
"Maybe," she yawned, "Heck, he maybe even like you." I laughed at her comment, curling in a ball. Tobias like me? I thought, When pigs fly.
Ticci-Toby's POV
I went to Jeff's room, knocking loud. I heard footsteps and he answered the door, asking, "What's up, Toby?" I pushed myself in the room, finally seeing what it looks like. It was messy and it had red wallpaper, making sense since it's Jeff. The walls I turned to him and motioned him to close the door. He did and I said quickly and quietly, "We have to get into Kristi's room soon."
"Whoa, slow down, Toby," Jeff said, "We can't just go into her room without finding out her schedule." I shook my head. "Look," I started, "I saw her come out of Marie's room. She took something from there. I don't know what it is or why, but I know that Marie is innocent."
Jeff paced the room a little, running his fingers through his hair. "Damn that bitch," he muttered, punching the wall. He didn't make a hole, but a small dent instead. That must mean he was holding back. He turned to me and whispered, "We need a plan."
??? POV
I frowned at what I saw. Those two boys are going to ruin my plan if I let them continue any longer. It seems that Kristi is failing to meet my instructions. Looks like I'm going have to speak to her face to face once more. I snapped my fingers, entering Kristi's room. She was fast asleep in bed. How cute, I thought, smiling my wicked smile. I placed my hand on her forehead, entering her mind. It was pitch black in there, besides her standing in front of me. "Hello, Kristi," I greeted, "It seems that we need a chat."
Kristi crossed her arms, glaring at me. "I'm doing my best, Boss," she snapped, fear dripping in her tone, "Marie's journal didn't-" I raised my hand to stop her, smiling a little more wickedly. "I've sent you specific instructions to watch our back since Toby and Jeff are watching you," I said, "And you're slacking at your job. They're planning something to find out what your hiding. And you know what'll happen if they learn the truth."
She didn't say anything, terror written on her face. "What do you want me to do?" she asked, like a servant to their master. I circled her, putting my hands on her waist. I whispered in her ear, "I need you to find out the pasta's weakness now. And if you don't, it'll be the end of you. Do you understand, sweetheart?"
She put her hands on mine, turning to me. She gave me a kiss on my cheek, replying, "Yes, dear."
