Imagine 49: Bucky

A/N: dedicated to @Mitchelle-Beirsack (: this was so fun to write btw

I fixed my falling purse on my shoulder, knocking on my parent's door.

"God, they always take so long to come to the door." I chuckled to Bucky. He returned the laugh, curling his arm around my waist. Finally, my mom opened the door, fixing her earring.

"Y/N!" She breathed happily, standing up straight after her jewelry was settled. She gave me a hug, turning to Bucky and pulling him in a hug as well.

"Great to see you, James." She smiled. "Sorry, we're running a bit late."

"It's fine, Mom." I laughed, patting her arm. "Just leave when you're ready."

I led Bucky into the living room where I knew my younger brother, Garret would be. Sure enough, there he sat, playing with a Barbie and toy truck. I chuckled as Garret placed the Barbie in the drivers seat, spinning the truck around and making car noises.

"Hey, lil' guy." I called out, waving with a big grin as he smiled and ran up to me.

"Y/N!" He squealed, attaching his little body on my leg. I scooped him up, pecking his nose.

"Garret!!" I mocked him, giggling quietly. "Look who it is!" I gasped, turning to Bucky. Garret had met Bucky very briefly, but my mom said Garret wouldn't stop talking about him.

Garret gasped, squirming out of my arms. I laughed as he crawled onto Bucky. Bucky lifted my brother with ease, balancing him on his hip.

"Well, I guess Garret's found a new favorite." I teased the two of them. I was actually ecstatic; Garret and I didn't have another other siblings, so Bucky was like a brother to Garret.

Bucky winked at me, walking over to Garret's play area. We all kneeled together, eyes travelling over all of his toys.

"What do you wanna play?" I asked Garret.

Garret hummed in thought, tapping his chin with a small finger. He gasped happily, grabbing a few things off the messy floor. He handed Bucky a soldier doll, me a Barbie, and gave himself a truck and a G.I. Joe doll.

"You get the soldier because you're a hero." Garret said simply, eyes on his truck and doll.

Bucky chuckled, shaking his head 'no'. "I'm no hero."

"Yes you are." Garret argued. "When someone fights for the country and sacrifices themselves, that makes them a hero. Mommy and Daddy agree."

Bucky smiled, an airy laugh coming from his mouth. He softly patted Garret's back, turning to me to smile a bit.

"I'm gonna have to agree with Garret." I voiced, reaching over to hold Bucky's hand. I gave it a squeeze, sending him a loving smile. Bucky quickly pressed a kiss to my cheek, another laugh escaping his lips.

"Well, bud, you know... they say people who try their hardest to make others happy are heroes too." Bucky added. Garret smiled widely, jumping into Bucky's arms for a hug.

----

Around 8:30, my parent's had gotten home. Garret had been tucked in, and now Bucky and I were just relaxing on the couch.

"Hey, lovebugs." My mom teased. I rolled my eyes, turning off the TV.

"How was your night?" I asked.

"Great. I got a nice steak." My dad smirked.

"Bucky's a steak guy too." I giggled.

"You should both come over sometime for a barbecue. This weekend?"

I looked to Bucky for approval.

"I'm not busy." He laughed.

"Text me the details." I laughed to my mom. We all hugged and bid each other goodbye after a few more minutes of talking.

"Let's go, hero." I teased, pulling Bucky to the car.

As we were all buckled and ready to go, Bucky spoke up.

"Do you really think I'm a hero?"

"Of course, honey." I cooed softly.

Bucky smiled softly. "Thanks, doll."

"I love you, Buck."

"I love you too." He answered quietly, reaching over for my hand. We drove home, hand-in-hand, speaking every once in a while. Bucky was content with himself; if a five year old thought he was hero... well, maybe he was.
