9 ~ Calum
As soon as my alarm when off, I stopped it, not wanting to wake anyone else.
I yawn, my body not used to waking up so early, but I get out of bed anyways.
I decided to go to school early, not really wanting to be home. I just feel...irritated, my whole family doesn't give two shits about anything but them selfs.
Well, maybe Thomas gives one shit, but I don't see him standing up for me.
I'm not completely sure why him liking the death penalty made me so upset. I guess it just reminded me of dad.
Dad has no empathy, he's cruel and would most likely enjoy watching his enemies die. I wouldn't. Even if they kill someone I care deeply about, I wouldn't want to sink down to their level.
Sure, I might beat them to a pulp, but never kill them... Intentionally.
And if Thomas turns out to act like dad, I'm putting myself up for adoption. Get me the hell out of this family.
I sigh, wanting to take a shower, but I couldn't. It would wake everyone up. Besides, I took one last night.
So I just slip on a black t-shirt, a red flannel, and my jacket. It's officially the first day of December, and I can already see all the overly-exited for Christmas people. (A/N - again, Where I live, December is cold for me :) )
Slipping down the stairs quietly, I grab some bread and drop it into the toaster. While waiting for the bread to heat, I tie on my all black Vans.
I sling my book bag over my shoulder once the now golden brown bread popped up from the small metal toaster.
I quietly open the door and leave. It was still dark out, but not pitch black, you could tell the sun would be rising soon.
I yawn, deciding to stop by a small coffee shop to get a small cup.
The door rings as I open the doors to "young mugs". The place seemed pretty modern, it was new here, only opened a few weeks ago.
"Welcome to young mugs, what would you like today?" A short girl with auburn hair asked.
"Just a small coffee." I say taking out my wallet.
"Cream?" She asks, typing into the cash register. Her gold color nails make small taps against the hard plastic.
"Yes, thank you..." I look to her name tag. "Natalie."
"No problem." She smiles, handing me the small cup. I give her a quick smile before walking out the door.
The heat from the paper cup warms my hands against the cold air, the liquid burning the roof of my mouth, but I don't mind.
The sun was just now beginning to peak out from behind the skyline, the orange and pink mix hardly showing.
The school was deserted, which was what I was hoping for. Ever since Luke sang us that song, I've been thinking of song lyrics non stop.
The hallways were quite, only one or two janitors were sweeping the floor before school started.
The school seemed completely different when nobody was there, it was calm yet a bit creepy at the same time.
Never less, I didn't mind the small eeriness of the empty hallways. If anything it made them less boring.
Finally, I had made it to the room placed in the back of the building. The smell welcomed me, swallowing me into a familiar surrounding.
The light bounced of the polished instruments scattered around the room, sheets of music scattered across the carpeted floor of the music room.
I grab the acoustic guitar and seat in a dark green chair, pulling out a small notebook from my bag.
Me and Michael worked on this song, but I really want to finish it already. We've got the beginning, but we are stuck on the chorus.
Strumming the guitar I try to find the right tune. Looking over what I have written down, try to figure out what to put.
"Last night, what a blur..." I pause, tapping my pencil. "Um... Woke up lying next to her."
I smile to myself, writing down the lyric and cords beside it.
"Last night, made a mess...doesn't get better than this."
"Phone rings from the bar." I bite my lip, " uh 25 texts and...."
I huff. What could go there? Running a hand through my hair, I lean back in the chair.
"And a call from mom?" I scream and jump so hard that my chair fell backwards, my head hitting the floor
I look over to see that girl- Valerie was her name. She was giggling, clutching her All Time Low t-shirt. She dropped her bag right next to mine.
"Shit you scared me." Rubbing the back of my head, I stand back up, picking the chair and guitar as well.
My eyes scan the floor for my note book, finally spotting it in Valerie's hands. " you're a good singer." She flipped through the papers.
My cheeks heat up for the first time in what seems like years. "Uh, thanks."
She looks back at me and smirks. " are you in like a band or something?" She pulls a chair up next to me.
"Something like that...we don't really have a name or anything yet, we just do small covers." I shrug, grabbing the notebook from her small hands.
She nods. "Do you need any help with that?" Pointing to the song I was just working on.
"Um, sure. If you want." I grab the guitar. " you can write them down, the lyrics."
She smiles, grabbing the pencil from the floor. "So, I was thinking, and a call from mom would work after 25 texts. " she looks up at me.
I think it over. "Yea..yeah that'll work." I smile, strumming the guitar.
"25 texts and a call from mom, It must've been good cuz..."
"I can't remember." She finishes for me, writing down the words we had just sang.
" I'm not the best singer." She laughs. I shake my head. "No, you're not that bad." I say truthfully.
She just smiles at me. I let my eyes look over her whole face, noticing the nose ring and light makeup, consisting of thin eyeliner and maybe a bit of cover-up or whatever you call it.
Her jet black hair made the red streak in the front of her fringe pop, her hair falling down to just below her shoulder blades.
Her eyes were grey, almost as if they held no color, but they were still mesmerizing. Like black and white movies. She seemed to be doing the same as me, analyzing each other.
I cough, realizing that I was staring at her. "The bell is about to ring...I should get going." Shutting my notebook, I put the guitar back.
" Yea, sure. I'm Valerie, by the way." She holds out her hand for me to grasp. "Calum." I give her hand a shake, noticing how soft her hands were.
She nods. "I'll see you around?" She grabbed a book bag, opening the door.
"Wait!" I call out. She freezes mid-step. " yes?"
I scratch the back of my neck ." Uh, that's my book bag..."
Heat rises to her cheeks and she looks between the two bags. "Oh, uh sorry. Same brand, I didn't look..." She hands me my bag, picking hers up.
"But mine is black and yours is red." I laugh, questioning how she didn't notice.
She looks down. " yeah, I know. Sorry." She turns her back facing me, walking out of he Class room.
I frown, grabbing my bag to catch up with her. "Wait! I didn't mean too.."I call out again, looking around the hallway. She was nowhere to be seen, the disappeared out of thin air.
That or she runs really fast. I groan. Whatever I said clearly upset her, way to go Calum. You fucked up again.
-----
"This is good." Luke says looking over the notebook while eating a spoonful of macaroni.
"Thanks. You know that new girl? Yeah, well she helped me with it." I take the notebook from his hands.
His eyes widen. " the hot new girl? The one will red in her hair?" He talks with his mouthful, making me cringe.
"Yes that one." I roll my eyes. " her name is Valerie, by the way."
His eyes follow someone behind me. "The Valerie that's over there?" He points behind me.
I turn and feel myself tense, my eyes finding Thomas and Valerie, together. Again.
I huff, resting my head on my hand. "Yea that one."
Luke laughs. " wow, for once, Thomas is actually getting the girl."
I scowl. " No, Not this one."
"Hello, it's me." Someone sets a tray of food beside mine.
"Michael?" Me and Luke gasp at the same time.
"Why are you here?" Luke asks, taking a sip of water.
He Shrugs. " there was nothing to do at home. I shouldn't have come back though." He frowns.
"Why not?" I ask. He looks at me before stabbing his fork into his food.
"I Have to do Community service for every day I've missed." He grumbles.
Luke whistles. " told you not to drop out."
Michael glares at the younger boy. " that's not all. If I don't keep good grades and do community service, then I have to do summer school." He sighs.
I raise my eyebrows. " they can't make you."
He looks at me. "Yea, that's what I said. But the police can. It's law."
I bite my lip and glance to Luke. He looked the same as me. "It looks like you've got no choice, mike."
"I know." He deadpans, obviously not wanting to talk about it anymore.
I take a bite of my tasteless mash potatoes, the table falling silent.
"Hey Luke!" A preppy voice chirps and the strong smell of perfume washed over us as she walked by.
Me and Michael look at each other before gaping at Luke.
"Why the fuck is Jess talking to you." Michael asks, looking to the table with all the cheerleaders and jocks. They were glancing back at us, giggling and whispering to each other.
"Okay, rude." Luke frowns, turning to look at the table behind him. " I dunno why she did, she just came up to me." His pale cheeks turned pink as me turned back to face us.
"What's going to happen next? Pigs flying? Money growing on trees?" I joke, causing Michael and I to laugh.
Luke's frown deepens. " yea... I'll see you guys later." He dumps his food into the trash and left the cafeteria.
I glance back to Thomas and Valerie. They were deep in conversation, and Thomas looks over to me, making eye contact.
He quickly looks back to Valerie, and and a feeing much like anxiety fills me.
I'm not jealous, nor angry, I'm scared.
Scared that he'll get her first.
A|N - please read!!

The girl in the picture attached it kinda what I want Valerie to look like. There are a few differences but you get the idea. (Her hair is spot on though)
I mentioned a Q&A and if y'all still want to do it then it will be in a few chapters. You can ask questions next chapter most likely.
