Chapter 26
You rush over to the door and pop your head out, checking for anybody in the hall.
You look left, right.
Left, right.
Left, right.
Before shutting to door once again, this time locking it.
You grab your phone, sprint over to the window and begin attempting to open it.
"Crap!"
It's locked.
You continue to try and open it as you hear footsteps coming down the hall.
"Come on..." You whisper impatiently.
"N/N, it's time." Your mother knocks on the door.
You desperately look around the room for something, anything.
"N/N?" Your mother tries the door handle. "Why is this door locked?"
"Shitshitshitshit." You can't find anything.
"Y/F/N get out her right now!"
You look down at your feet.
Of course!
You lift a leg up and force one of the tightly fitting, overpriced high heels off.
"Y/N!"
You bang the shoe against the window, but nothing happens.
You try again.
Nothing.
"Y/F/N!"
"Come on... Work..." You whisper as you ready the shoe for another hit.
"I SWEAR TO EVERYTHING IF YOU DON'T GET OUT HERE RIGHT NOW-"
SMASH!
The glass instantly breaks on impact.
You ignore as the small, sharp crystals of glass pierce your skin.
All that is important is getting out of this room.
You swing one leg over the window ledge, then another.
You're just lucking that you got the room on the ground floor.
You push yourself off the ledge, only having about half a meters distance between you and the ground.
As you land on the ground, you trip over your other high heel.
You pull that one off as well before sprinting across the bright green, freshly cut grass.
You try not to think about where you're going, even though that's the only thing you should be caring about at the moment.
Would Phil want to see you after how much of an asshole you were to him?
"Y/N!" You hear your father shout from the hotel as you reach the pavement on the street. "Get the fuck back here!" He makes his way down the steps.
You notice a taxi parked on the opposite side of the street, so you sprint over, swing the door open and jump in.
"Where to?" The female driver asks.
"Uh... I don't know..." You admit. "Anywhere but here."
"Well... Sure." The driver shrugs and starts the engine.
You see your father shouting from the hotel as you begin to drive away.
You lock eyes with his and slowly raise your middle finger up to the window before turning a corner.
"So, you planning on explaining what sort of situation you seem to have gotten yourself in?" The driver asks.
"It's a long story." You tell her.
"We have time."
............................................................
"So then I smashed the window and... I guess you saw what happened there." You finish telling her everything about the last two months.
"Wow. Why do you get to have such an interesting life?" The driver laughs.
"I wouldn't count it as a privilege... I don't even know where I'm meant to go now." You tell her.
"You really don't know?"
"Yup."
"Well, I think it's pretty darn obvious."
"You do? Where?"
"You need to go find that Phil guy! Tell him you love him!"
"He won't want to see me. He doesn't deserve me."
"Was last night the last time he talked to you?"
"Yes. Apart from some messages..."
"What are they? What do they say?" She pulls over at the side of the road. "Do you have your phone with you?"
"Uh..." You hold up your phone. "Duh. It's the one thing I took."
"So you took your phone, but not any money so that you can pay me for this ride?"
"Shit... Sorry, I don't have any money."
"Oh, it's fine. This insight into your life is definitely better." She shrugs. "Can I see the messages?"
"Sure." You unlock your phone and pull up your texts from Phil. "Here."
You watch as her deep brown eyes skim over the messages rather speedily.
"I'm taking you to his house." She tells you as she starts the engine again.
"Why?" You ask as you take the phone back.
"You need to tell him that you love him."
"Why? He deserves better than me."
"Do you want to leave him heartbroken? He said that he thinks he's a burden. You need to tell him otherwise. He needs to know that you care about him, that you aren't a witch who would stomp on his heart and leave him to pick up the pieces by himself." She explains. "What's his address?"
............................................................
The car slowly makes its way to a halt on the side of the street across from Phil's house.
You glance over and see him sitting by the oak tree in his front garden, staring down at his hands.
"You can do this." The driver tells you.
"Thanks... I'm sorry that I don't have any money to pay you with."
"Oh, it's quite okay."
"It's not. You've been really helpful." You pause and think for a moment, before tearing the diamond necklace off your neck and handing it to her. "Cash that in. It's worth a fortune."
"I really can't take this-"
"Trust me, it's fine. It's only a necklace... Plus, I have more jewellery on me that I can sell if I need the money." You explain.
"Oh, okay. Now stop stalling! Go talk to him."
"Okay. Thanks for everything."
"It's no problem. Now go!" She rushes you out of the car.
You take in a deep breath before walking across the street towards Phil's house.
"Phil..." You mutter with a smile on your face.
You see Phil pause for a moment before looking up at you with his tear-stained, perfectly bright eyes.
"Y/N..." He whispers. "I thought-"
"I ran away." You tell him. "Phil, I love you."
"Re-Really?" Phil stands up and takes a step towards you.
You wipe away some tears and smile.
"Really."
Phil runs over and pulls you into a tight embrace, tears streaming down his face and yours.
This is the happiest you've ever been in your life.
You didn't do what they want.
You followed your heart.
You did not and will not ever admit defeat.
Not in this life, and never in the next.
