Chapter 2
"There you are N/N!" Your mother rushes over to you as soon as you enter the house. "Where were you? Darren said you were helping some stranger. Are you okay?"
"Yes I'm okay. Why wouldn't I be?" You ask as you walk down the hall to the dining room, your mother following close behind you.
"I don't know. You're just in time though, dinner was running late but we've just finished it." Your mother sits down at the tall table with four plates of food set out of you, your mother, Darren and his mother, Carol.
"Guessing dad isn't home yet?" You ask as you take a seat next to Darren.
"No, he's being kept back at work." You mother says while pouring her and Carol each a glass of wine. "Anyway." Your mother takes a bite of her steak. "Did you guys have a nice walk?"
"Yes, it was great." You lie.
The only 'great' part of that walk was when Darren left and you met Phil, who's already become a rather good friend of yours.
"Until some guy ran into us and you stayed behind to help the asshole." Darren rolls his eyes.
"Language Darren!" Carol scolds.
"Woops." Darren says sarcastically while taking a sip of his wine.
"That's enough." Carol says sternly.
"Sorry, mother. May I please use the bathroom?" Darren stands up.
"Of course Darren. The closest one is down the hall, then turn left, then turn right. The door at the end of the hall." You mother says.
Darren nods his head and heads off to the bathroom.
"So, Y/N, tell me about yourself." Carol smiles.
"What would you like to know?" You ask.
"Hm... I don't know... What's your favourite colour?" She asks.
"F/C." You tell her.
"That's nice, so-" She begins to ask something else, but you stand up and cut her off.
"I'm actually full. I'm going to go out to the garden to get some nice fresh air." You smile.
"But you were just out- ugh never mind." Your mother sighs as you make your way to your rather large garden.
You walk past the glorious rose bushes and keep walking till you reach the very back of the garden.
You sit on the side of the fountain.
You pull off your way too high heels and throw them into the bush in front of you.
"Fucking finally." You stretch out your feet and look into the forest behind the gate.
You notice a familiar figure walking down the path.
You jump up onto the grass, feeling it's cold, spiky texture under your warm, bare feet.
You pop your head above the fence and call out to him.
"Hey Phil!"
Phil looks around, trying to detect where the person talking to him is.
"Over here!" You wave your hand in the air, catching his eye.
He walks off the path and over to you, staying on the other side of the fence of course.
"Hi Y/N, what's up?" He asks.
"I have to spend and entire evening being bored listening to Darren talk about himself." You complain.
"That sucks." Phil laughs slightly.
"What are you up to?" You ask.
"I'm away to go play Mario kart at my friend Dan's house."
"Mario kart? Oh, I've heard of that before. I've never played it."
"You've never played Mario kart? You must be joking."
"My fucking mum and dad never let me play any video games."
"You've got to play them. I'm going to make sure of it."
"Yes!" You look at Phil's black earphones, which are obviously plugged into his phone with one in his ear. "What're you listening to?"
"New Born by Muse."
"Huh? I've never heard of that."
"You've never heard of Muse?"
"Never. My mother doesn't let me listen to a lot of music, only classical. She says music rots your brain and that it will make me a bad person."
"Music makes life better. Trust me. Have you at least heard of Fallout Boy?"
"I've heard of them, never listened though."
"You've got so much simple things you need to experience."
"Well... Uh... You haven't ridden a dolphin though, or flown to Australia in first class! I win!"
"I've never flown on normal class, never mind first class."
"Why not?"
"Not enough money."
"I-"
"Y/N! Come inside, we're going to watch a movie!" You hear your mother shout from the back door, which seems like miles away.
It probably is.
"Probably some boring ass shit." You moan. "Coming!" You turn back to face Phil. "I've got to go, as you can probably tell."
"Yeah. I'll see you later then, and we're going to make sure you listen to some good music." Phil smiles and walks away.
........................................................................
You watched some extremely boring movie with your parents, Darren and his mother after your father came home.
You then went to bed and woke up the next morning to your mother shaking you awake.
"N/N, wake up. We're doing wedding preparations today!"
"Ugh." You slap her hand away. "Five more hours."
"No! And don't slap my hand again! Get up."
You groan and roll out of bed, quite literally, landing on your mother's feet.
"Sorry." You say to her.
"Just get dressed." She rolls her eyes and leaves you to get dressed.
You crawl towards your massive closet and use the door handles to pull yourself up.
You open the door and grab a F/C skirt along with a black/white top.
You get changed, do your makeup and add on some jewellery before walking down the stairs.
"Limos waiting outside. We're going to go choose the flowers, then your getting dropped off back home. I'm having lunch with some friends." Your mother grabs your hand and pulls you into the limo.
.................................................................
"Hey uh... shouldn't Darren be helping pick these?" You ask your mother as the two of you look through the endless mass of flowers at the shop.
"No way. Trust me, I'm-... I mean... You... Are getting to plan everything about this wedding." She smiles.
"Except for who it's with." You mutter under your breath.
"What?"
"What?"
"What?"
"Nothing."
"Okay... but seriously, all Darren needs to do is just show up and say 'I do', the rest is up to me... you..."
"Okay..." You laugh and look at the flowers.
You find a gorgeous, delicate F/C flower that you instantly fall in love with.
"What about this one?" You ask your mother.
"Ew, no. We're going for the classic red roses." (If your favourite colour is red, change it to white)
"But I like this." You pick up the flower and show it to her.
"It's not classy. It's weird. It gives me a poor person vibe... mainly because it's the cheapest one."
"Okay..." You sigh and place the flower back as your mother turns and talks to the woman working at the shop.
"Summer!" She hugs the woman and kisses both her cheeks. "How are you?"
"I'm great!" The woman, whom you guess is named Summer, says while fixing up some flowers. "What are you doing here? I haven't seen you in ages!"
"My daughter Y/N here." She grabs you and pulls you beside her. "Is getting married. Do you have any roses?"
"Of course, what kind of flower shop doesn't have roses?" Summer smiles. "When do you need them?"
"In two months."
You zone off as they continue to talk about the flowers.
You wander over to the bouquet that holds the beautiful flower you saw earlier.
You reach out and grab hold of it, but feel another hand on it from the other side of the rack.
You look up and see Phil standing holding the flower on the other side of the rack.
"Oh hey." You laugh.
"Hi." Phil smiles. "What brings you here?"
"Flowers for the wedding. What about you?"
"I just like the flowers. They're nice, like this one." Phil looks down at the flower the two of you are still holding. "This is my favourite in the shop. It's the prettiest one, and it smells amazing."
"But it's the cheapest one. Why is that?"
"Because it's different. It's not what people are looking for."
"But it's so perfect..."
"Nothing is perfect."
"N/N! Come on!" You hear your mother.
"Okay." You let go of the flower and let Phil pick it up. "You can have it."
"No, here, you have it." Phil places it behind you ear. "It should belong to someone who matches it's beauty."
