First Kiss & Faking It

It was time. The last party for this month, the second one was with their friends and it wasn't all too bad. Nobody questioned Elliot and Olivia too much. But knowing her whole family, it was going to be intense.

"Just a warning, my dear, my family is rambunctious and inappropriate." Olivia told Elliot. The last time he met her all of her family members was when they were 8 years old. And although they invited family over every year during the party month it was never complete until today.

"Are they really that bad?" Elliot asked, trying to recall how they were like when he was a child. All he could remember was that his parents were there as well.

She nodded with big eyes. "Trust me."

That's when the doorbell rang.

"Do I look okay?" Olivia asked Elliot as she adjusted her white flowy dress.

He glanced around to see that Mark and Odette were in the room with them then he looked down at her and smiled, throwing an arm
over her shoulder so he could kiss her forehead. "You always look beautiful." He complimented while his lips rested on her forehead.

She could feel her heart fluttering, a grin forming on her lips as she wrapped her arms around his torso. But she knew he only did it because someone was looking. "Don't be such a suck up."

He chuckled and pulled away to look down at her. "I'm not being a suck up."

Her eyes rolled as she moved away from him.

"Just kiss already." Odette told them in a sing song tone.

"Kiss him?" Olivia pointed at Elliot and made a gagging sound. "That would be gross, he's my best friend-" She stopped herself from adding to her sentence. Not kissing was one of their top rules and her usual attitude towards dating Elliot slipped her lips.

"What?" Mark raised an eyebrow.

Elliot threw his arm over Olivia's shoulder and pulled her close. "She's just shy."

"Father. Do you really want to see us kiss?"

"Mark, my dear brother, is that you?" A loud voice greeted loudly.

He turned around to see his older sister standing there with open arms. "Mabelle!" He made his way towards her and hugged her.

"Don't forget about me!" Another voice interjected, joining the embrace. It was Danielle, their oldest sister.

"You're still cute as a button, baby brother." She pinched his cheek once they all pulled away from one another.

He swatted her hand away and rolled his eyes.

***

Only an hour into the party, the whole family was there. Claire's side of the family was there and so was Mark's, most of them were outside in the large backyard. The children were running while the teenagers sat down in the living room with the adults outside, sitting around the large table that held a huge amount of food.

Olivia was conversing with her younger cousin who was showing her what she had learn in her recent ballet class.

The women of the family were looking over at Olivia while the men were playing a causal game of football.

"I'm so happy that Olivia is pregnant." Danielle gushed happily.

Claire smiled. "We are too."

"And to think that handsome young man is her boyfriend." Claire's cousin added as her eyes looked over at Elliot.

"I'm glad she found the right one and she isn't dating those good for nothing street boys." Maebelle smiled. "It wasn't too long ago when you and Mark were complaining about her love life."

Claire nodded. "We're very proud of her."

"It's a bit unexpected, don't you think?" Another cousin of hers raised an eyebrow.

Claire looked at her with confusion and waited for her to explain.

"All their lives they never had feelings for one a other and suddenly they're completely in love like they've been married 20 years." She opined, the ladies were now all listening.

"Love can do crazy things." Danielle sighed. "Elliot and Olivia are just proof of it."

Mabelle rolled her eyes at her sister's love sick attitude. "We never got to hear their love story." She chirped with excitement, mocking Danielle. "Olivia!"

Danielle rolled her eyes.

"Liv, my dear." Claire called.

Olivia made her way towards the table of ladies and smiled. "Yes?"

"Can you call your boyfriend over?" Mabelle instructed her.

Olivia raised an eyebrow. "I don't have-" She stopped herself from finishing her sentence, she had no idea why she kept forgetting her deal with Elliot. At this rate their cover is going to be blown. " Elliot! Honey!" She exclaimed loudly, her eyes rested on Elliot who was about to catch a football.

"Coming." He replied loudly, totally forgetting about the ball since it hit him on the head. "Ow!"

The guys hunched over in laughter.

His cheeks burned red as he made his way over to the table. "What's up?" He took a grape from the bowl that Olivia was holding and ate it, placing a hand on her back.

"How did you two fall in love?" Danielle asked.

Elliot picked up another grape so he didn't have to answer. Frankly Olivia forgot their love story that they made in the car.

"One night we were talking about what it would be like if we were a couple." She looked up at Elliot who was already looking down at her, her heart skipped a beat. "It was-it made me look at him differently, more than a friend. Everything he did for me and for my family, the times he comforted me and made me laugh until I cried should have been something that made me fall in love with him but it wasn't, it was that night when I looked into his eyes which were full of the future of us and I couldn't be more excited about it."

Elliot continued to stare down at her as she spoke. He wondered if she was telling the truth, deep inside he hope she was. He never thought that he would look at his best friend this way, filled with hope that there may be a possibility of them really being together.

Olivia nudged him lightly to finish the story as she broke her gaze from his eyes, she set the bowl of grapes onto the table.

He snapped out of it and bite down on his lips, noticing that everyone was looking at them. His eyes scanned the crowd, looks of glee was on their faces. "After that night, I knew that Olivia was the girl I wanted to be with. She's everything a guy could ever need and she's mine."

Everybody beamed happily.

"Let's see a kiss!" Danielle clapped as she exclaimed.

Elliot's hand tensed up against Olivia's back, they both were now sweating.

"Kiss!" The children cheered on as they danced, having no idea what was going on.

Suddenly everyone was cheering them on to kiss.

"No, it's okay." Olivia lifted her hands and shook her head. "We shouldn't."

Elliot shook his head as well. "We don't do PDA."

Mabelle rolled her eyes. "You talk about each other like you're head over heels but when we ask you to show it you can't." She told them loudly. "We want to see a kiss!"

Slowly but surely, Elliot and Oliva turned to one another, they tried their best to keep their cool. The cheers only got louder.

That's when their lips touched but barely.

"There!" Olivia yelled loudly, her cheeks burning red.

"That's how you kiss a goldfish. We want a real kiss!" Danielle urged them.

Olivia looked over at her parents to see them also cheering them on to kiss. "Look guys-"

That's when a pair of hands pulled her waist and then she felt lips on hers, it was full of passion which made her knees buckle. Without thinking her arms flew around Elliot's neck, pulling him closer. She didn't expect that kissing her best friend would make her feel like this, it was like she was floating.

Elliot didn't think before he grabbed Olivia but he was glad that he did it, his heart rate quicken and all he could feel was that he was no longer touching the ground. It was like everyone around them disappeared.

He slowly pulled away but kept his forehead against hers, a smile forming on his lips.

"What a kiss." Mabelle teased once they stopped.

Elliot and Olivia quickly pulled themselves away from one another, remembering that there were people there. Their cheeks were burning red.

"Why don't you kiss me like that?" One of Mark's cousin's swatted her husband's arm as she pointed at Elliot and Olivia.

Laughter filled the atmosphere but they couldn't stop thinking about what just happened.

Elliot glanced over at her and smiled but looked away once Olivia did the same.

"I'm going to the washroom." He told her and left as quickly as possible.
