Prologue

"The ones that love us never really leave us." - Sirius Black

As the days dwindled and trees donned their vibrant hues, the damp windy night air of October 31th crept into the atmosphere. Children dressed in costumes of different sorts staggered across the square, scaviging for sugary sweets. Homes decorated with fake plasic spiders and webs made out of cotton balls. All with parents trying to keep up with their little bundles of joy as they tore through the neighbourhood like an out of control wrecking ball.

Muggles running around every which way, ignorant to the world they didn't know to be real, and he was gliding amongst them. Walking with a sense of purpose, power and confidence that he always had on these kinds of special occasions. Not with anger, nor hatred, but triumph, he had waited so long for this moment and worked so hard. He knew he couldn't fail.

"Hey! Cool costume, mister." He saw a small boy flash him a smile, giving him a clear view of his missing front tooth. Brushing the child off as if he was a repugnant fly making irritating buzzing noises in his ear, and continued the route to his destination. He tightened the grip on his wand that he was clutching under his black hooded cloak. With one swift wave of his wand the boy would have never been able see another sunrise again, but he deemed it highly unnecessary.

The street next along was a lot darker and voided of children. His destination laid just ahead at last. The Fidelius Charm long broken, though the couple didn't know it yet. He crept up to the entrance of the young parent's home, and made less noise than a cheetah hungrily stalking its prey. The duo had not yet shut the curtains, and he could see them quite clearly in their little sitting room. A tall raven-haired lad, wearing glasses, making tiny puffs of smoke emit from the tip of his wand for the amusement of the small raven-haired boy and girl in their red and gold matching pyjamas. The children were squealing in delight, in vain attempts to try and catch the smoke in their tiny, premature hands. The door creaked opened and the mother walked in, her thick crimson-red hair frantically flying all over the place as she uttered things he couldn't hear. Whatever the mother had said caused the father to scoop up the two infants as he carefully place them in her arms. He chucked his wand upon the chesterfield, as the mother placed the children into their crib and went to bring her in his embrace.

The gate's wooden hinges creaked slightly as he pushed it open and made his way to the front door. His pale white hand pulling the wand from under his cloak and pointed it at the door causing it to burst open. He was only a few steps in when the father came crashing down the stairs. It was easy-way too easy. The fool hadn't even remembered to pick his wand back up.

"Lily, take Harry and Azalea and run! It's him. Go! Run! I'll hold him off."The father's voice cried from the main floor.

The cloaked-figure had found this comment extremely absurd. 'Hold him off? Without a wand?' He gave a chilling laugh before casting the curse. "Avada Kedavra!"

A green light filled the room, shaking the frame of the house, and James Potter fell like heavy rain beating on the ground. He could hear the screams of his red-headed wife coming from the floor above. Knowing she was trapped, he took his time to look around. It was a small cottage in the town of Godric's Hallow, inherited by a few other wizarding families. The theme of the house was clearly The Gryffindor colours, as the walls were a light shade of gold and the chesterfields were scarlet. Shaking his head humorously, he continued his way up the stairs.

He could hear the scraping of the wood above him, as she attempted to barricade him out. He couldn't help but notice she didn't have a wand upon her person either. How moronic they were, thinking they could stop him!

He blasted the door open, effortlessly. Casting aside all the articles she had use to try and keep him out. Upon seeing him she placed herself in front of the crib and guarded it with her lithe figure, like that would help the situation.

"Not my children! Not my son! Please, have mercy!"

Not even he could deny, Lily was a beautiful creature. With long, thick red hair that cascaded down her back as aquaticly as a gently running stream of water, mesmerizing emerald eyes, a figure he knew to be perfect on a girls' standards, thick eyelashes that framed her eyes alluringly, freckles dusted lightly across her defined cheekbones and full cherry red lips. Yes, he could she why Severus wanted her, she was quite the looker.

"Stand aside you foolish girl. Stand aside, now," he rasped.

"No! Please, take me-take me instead!"

He could of forcefully moved her from in front of the crib, but it seemed better to just finish her off now, so she couldn't interlope with any of his future plans. The green light lit up the room and she fell like her husband. The raven-haired boy had been watching all this time, standing while peeking over the bars of the crib. The raven-haired girl, however had been sleeping soundly, not bothered by the events that just occurred there seconds ago.

The boy stared into the face of the intruder with curiosity and maybe even interest. Most likely thinking it was a joke and his mother was going to get up any second laughing with his father.

Walking up to the children's crib, he peered down into it and looked at the other child. He was utterly confused, their wasn't, to his knowledge, another child but the boy. He was going to have to have a severely profound conversation with Pettigrew about the missing information. He would have go deal with this one later. Turning back to the boy and pointing the wand in his face. He wanted to see it happen. He wanted to see the light leave the child's eyes.

The child started to cry when he realized that the figure under the cloak was not his father, but a stranger. It seemed like the cry from the little boy's mouth woke his sister up, as she woke up looking curiously at her crying one-year old brother. She sat up, as she was 3 weeks old and couldn't stand yet, her eyes soon catching the intruder's.

He couldn't seem to stomach the little boy's cries and said, "avada kedavra!" The flash of green light hit the child and he gave a grin of satisfactory, before the curse backfired and strucked him instead. Marking the end of the first Wizarding War and the two children forever being known as "The children who Lived."
