I keep my eyes glued on my phone as I scroll my thumb down my phone screen, looking at all the Instagram posts about Ryder and I. There were like, a thousand posts on how "I lost my virginity to Ryder last night", and with every post I saw, the angrier I got. I decided to click my phone off and toss it on my bed beside me.
I turn my head to look at the digital clock on my bedside table to see it was 9:25 p.m. I sigh and plop my back down on my bed, staring up at the ceiling in silence.
I had this silence for about five more seconds before I heard my door open. I turned to my right to see my mom walking in. I roll my eyes and lift myself up on my bed. I already knew what was coming.
"Riley, can you explain what happened today at the shop?" My mom asked, just as I expected.
I sigh and simply shrug my shoulders. "Some of Ryder's friends came in and they found out Ryder worked there," I explain, leaving out some key parts.
"Okay... But I heard a girl saying something about Ryder sleeping with you. What was that about?"
I let out a huge groan of aggravation and throw my head back. "Mom, you know it's just some rumor going around school. I would never sleep with anyone until after I'm married."
My mom looks at me for a while and nods "Okay... But I don't like that there are dirty rumors being spread about you around school." My mom states in a concerned tone.
"It's fine, mom. I can handle it."
"Are you sure, because I can come up to the school and—"
"No, mom. You're gonna make it worse by embarrassing me."
"Fine," my mom gives in, walking back to the door. I watch her as she turns her body back around to face me. "Just be careful around that Ryder Martinez. I don't trust him too well."
"Okay, mom." I state with an unamused tone, plopping my back down on my bed again.

I look out the school bus window as we pass by all the trees and cars. The rest of the bus was extremely loud, but I took in my own personal silence as we drove.
Alec wasn't coming to school, once again, so I was sitting in the back seat by myself. I wasn't complaining though. Sometimes I liked sitting by myself to just look out the window and think bout things on my own. I found it quite peaceful, blocking away everyone else on the bus, and taking time for myself.
But today...I couldn't have my personal bus time.
"Is anyone sitting here?" I hear the familiar voice suddenly ask beside me.
I sigh and look away from the window. I look up to see Ryder, waiting for me to give him an answer. "Yes," I simply lie.
"Yeah, right." Ryder says, adding a chuckle before sitting down next to me.
I shoot Ryder a glare of annoyance before shrugging my shoulders, confused as to why he was sitting next to me. "What do you want? Why are you sitting next to me? I thought this was 'physical and social embarrassment' for you."
"It is," Ryder mentions, looking around the bus to confirm if anyone was looking at us. I roll my eyes as he continues. "I need to talk to you about something."
"What?" I snap, just wanting him to get right to the point already.
Ryder sighs before speaking. "I need you to give me a raise,"
I instantly let out a huge fit of laughter and Ryder gives me a blank stare. Ryder didn't find the situation funny at all, but I did. "I am not giving you a raise." I say, finishing off my laughter.
"Why not?"
"What have you done to deserve a raise?" I ask curiously, raising an eyebrow inquisitively at Ryder.
"I studied the whole menu! I know every single ice cream flavor and every single ingredient! Why can't you just get me off janitor duty and let me serve ice cream already?!"
"Calm down!" I yell, but not loud enough for everyone to look back here.
"Look, Riley, I know I'm an asshole to you most of the time—"
"Most of the time?" I interrupt, furrowing my eyebrows. "All of the time!" I correct.
"Whatever!" Ryder yells in an aggravated tone. "I need this money, Riley." Ryder states in a more serious matter.
I look at Ryder for a few more seconds before sighing and giving in. "Fine," I say, watching Ryder as he puts a victorious smile on his face.
"Thank you!" Ryder shouts in victory.
"But you better not screw up, or I'm gonna put you right back to cleaning the toilets. Now get away," I say, shooing him off.
"Gladly," Ryder mumbles, getting up and walking to wherever he was sitting before.
By the time our conversation was over, we had already arrived at school, which I obviously wasn't too exited about.
When our bus driver parks the bus, everyone instantly floods the bus and makes their ways inside the school.
I walk off the bus and follow everyone else inside the school. I walk down the long hallways, passing by other students as I walked.
When I approach my locker, I was just about to put in my combination before I felt a hand on my shoulder.
Who's touching me? I think in disgust. I hated when random people came up and touched me.
I furrow my eyebrows and look down at the hand that was on my left shoulder, and when I see the expensive manicure on the persons nails, I get an exact clue of who the person is. I turn around to see Natalie, which caused me to roll my eyes. I then turn back around to continue what I was doing.
"Hey, Riley!" Natalie greets in an annoying, fake happy voice. I also notice that she didn't call me Ri-Loser, which probably meant she wanted some information from me.
"What do you want?" I mumble, opening my locker and grabbing the books I need for my next couple classes.
"Can I ask you something?"
I roll my eyes to the back to my head and let out a silent sigh of irritation before closing my locker and turning to face Natalie. "What is it?" I asked, plastering a fake smile on my face.
"Why is Ryder working at your ice cream shop?" She asks.
I continue to keep the fake smile on my face as I shake my head. "If it were any of your business, I would've told you."
Natalie drops the smile from her face and replaces it with a suspicious face expression. "What is going on between you and Ryder?"
"Nothing! It's not even as dramatic as you're making it! Just because Ryder works at my parents shop automatically means there's something going on between Ryder and I?" I ask, raising my eyebrows at Natalie, waiting for her to reply.
Natalie goes silent for a few seconds and grits her teeth at me. "Fine," she says before turning around, whipping her stupid, light brown hair in my face in the process.
I scowl at Natalie and her pathetic attitude until her figure was out of sight before storming off to class.
I never knew giving Ryder this job would make my life so difficult.
