Always Watching Out For You - {Calum}
[A/N: this is going to start in Calum's POV so don't be confused little nuggets. A'ight boiii]
•Calum's POV•
I went out for a quick takeout at McDonald's. It was about 11pm, and I was beyond exhausted, but yet, starving. I ordered and sat down and waited. As I was scrolling through my phone, I looked up and noticed a familiar face.
Y/N's boyfriend.
I've met him only a few times, because of how close me and Y/N were. We had been friends since high school, and she was such a supportive friend of me and my band's interest in wanting to make music. I knew I could trust her a lot, and often times, I just wished she would leave that untrustworthy boyfriend that she was with and find someone else; someone who has been there for a long time and knows how to take care of her.
I watched him as he chatted with a girl at one of the nearby booths. She smiled and batted her lashes, giving off flirtatious winks. His eyes screamed lust to the girl, and he pulled her in for a quick tongue-to-tongue interaction.
I almost vomited at the sight. I could feel the blood rushing to my head. I clenched my fists as I watched him cheat on one of the sweetest girls alive.
Part of me wanted to go over and confront him, but another part of me wanted to be sly and sneaky about the whole situation.
I had my phone in hand, so the most smart thing to do about now was to record him; but before I got the chance, my phone conveniently died on me. I sucked my teeth in frustration, calmly sliding my phone in my back pocket.
"Calum?" the boy behind the counter called, signaling me that my meal was ready.
I simply ignored him, walking over to the y/n's boyfriend's table. When I made it over, I stood up over them and calmly removed my hood that was slightly covering my identity.
"Wow, looks like you're having fun!" I smiled sarcastically. I looked over at the girl he had been dining with. "Gosh... this couldn't possibly be the first date? McDonald's? That's pretty lousy,"
She shot a confused glance at him and looked back up at me. "This isn't our first date,"
I looked over at Y/BF/N and raised an eyebrow. His eyes frowned at me and he looked entirely angry. He stood up slowly from the booth and met me face to face.
"You're not gonna tell her," he growled, pushing me on my chest. "she'll believe me over you any day."
That was enough to set me off. I swung at him, punching him right in his jaw. He clung to my shirt as he turned his face away from my constant throws of punches. The girl he had been here with screamed. He pushed me off, punching me in the face as well.
"Hey, hey!" the manager yelled, running over and separating the both of us. "You two go home before I call the cops!"
I held my bleeding lip and cut my eyes at Y/N's boyfriend before I left.
There was no way Y/N deserved a guy like that. She had done so much for him and she loved him like there was no tomorrow, and he does her like this? I was infuriated.
I knew exactly what I wanted to do now...
********
•Your POV•
You had gotten into bed and turned out the small lamp on your nightstand. You couldn't sleep though. Y/BF/N hadn't called, nor texted you all day, and you couldn't help but wonder what was up.
You settled your eyes on the ceiling, focusing on the sound of rain droplets hitting the roof. The rain usually helped you fall asleep, but you couldn't stop thinking about Y/BF/N, and that's what kept you wide awake. You held yourself as the damp feeling in your stomach took over you: You just weren't his priority anymore.
Suddenly, there was a loud and angry knock on your door. You shot up quick and ran to it. You opened it, not to find Y/BF/N, but instead, Calum standing right in front of you with rain rested all over his hoodie. He held his lip as blood dripped down his face.
You almost screamed; but the look in your eyes and your gaped open mouth was enough to show how shocked you were.
"Calum!" you gasped. "Who did this to you?"
He couldn't even look at you straight. He seemed so frustrated.
"Come in," you stepped aside, letting him walk through. "I'll get you a wet towel."
He sat down on your couch, staring at your reflection in the turned-off television, as you moved around, getting a wet towel for him. He still sat there, holding his face with an evil scowl and not making the slightest noise; he was angry all right.
You ran over to him, sitting on your legs on the couch, trying to find an even amount of height with you and his face.
You helped him take off his jacket, and then you slowly eased in closer to him.
"Let me see," you said gently, moving his hand out of the way.
It looked pretty bad, but only from the inside. You put the cold, damp towel on his lip and he winced at the pain. After you got the bleeding to slow down, he seemed a bit more calm.
"Now are you going to tell me who did this or not?---"
"Y/BF/N." he said coldly, still staring angrily in a space.
You raised an eyebrow. Y/BF/N had a quite uncontrollable temper at times, but him doing this to one of your closet friends seemed unbelievable.
"No way," you denied.
Calum glared at you. "He was cheating on you, Y/N... I was trying to stand up for you, but he put his hands on me, so I punched him and we went full-on."
You sat there in shock. You could feel the tears rushing over the edge of your lower eyelid. "H-He would never do that!"
"So you're saying I'm a liar?" Calum shot up, letting the bloody towel drop to the ground.
"I just---he... he said he loved me," you whimpered, your cheeks becoming wet with the leakage from your eyes.
"Well the girl he was with said it wasn't the first time, so what does that tell you?" He still sounded upset. "The fact that you think I'm making this up with blood oozing from my bottom lip is stupid!---"
"Get out." You said half-heartedly, without thinking.
Calum looked down at you, in a stance of confusion. "Y/N, are you serious right now?---"
"Get out!" You yelled, tears flowing down your cheeks even more.
He still stood like a shadow, and you couldn't even bother looking at him. He was truly hurt, and you could tell. He grabbed his hoodie and left in the pouring rain without saying another word.
You knew he was telling the truth, but you just didn't want to believe him.

It had gotten later and later. It had been three hours since Calum had left, and you still hadn't moved from that very spot on the couch. You watched the door in silence, listening to the ticking of the clock down the hall. You waited to see the door knob jiggle and Y/BF/N come in and tell you that he was in traffic and everything was okay.
But it was five minutes until 3am and you knew that if he said that, it would've been a total lie.
You couldn't stop the tears from drizzling down your face as you watched the door helplessly.
Unexpectedly, the door swung open, and Y/BF/N was trying his hardest to sneak in quietly. He shut the door behind him and locked it, quietly sitting his keys on the table without noticing you.
He headed to your bedroom, most likely expecting to see you there, but little did he know that you had found a nice comfy spot on the couch and you had seen it all.
"Y/N?" He called, wandering around the house like a lost puppy.
"In here."
He came running to the living room, his face stuck in a look of guilt. You could tell he was trying his hardest to fight it.
"There you are, baby---"
"Where have you been?" You growled, cutting your eyes at him.
He had found a nice seat next to you on the couch and he tried to wrap his arms around you and kiss your cheek, but you quickly pulled away.
"You smell different," you implied, noticing the smell of some tropical scented perfume that you didn't own.
"Oh.. It's 'cuz I bought an air freshener thing for um---my um---car,"
You giggled sarcastically. Did he really think you were that dumb?
"I like the hickey on your neck..." you falsely complemented him, "It's cute."
"Y/N, are you okay?" He asked, starting to fear this calm version of you. He was probably expecting you to be flipping tables and burning the house down by now.
You sat up and looked into his mysterious eyes. "You were cheating on me?"
"No! Who told you that? I bet it was that stupid friend of yours! He only wants you for himself! That's why he lied to you: just so he could be there to take you from me!" He got defensive.
You couldn't help but sarcastically half-smile at how he was giving himself away. He had obvious evidence on his body, and he had spoken of Calum telling you about the whole situation, when he hadn't even been brought up in the conversation. It was amusing to you.
"You think I'm a liar?" he grabbed you by your arms and shook you. "You're seriously putting that jealous-jack ass ahead of me?"
"He's not a jack ass..." you growled. "Now let me go."
His grip became tighter, and you squirmed, trying to get free. He pinned you down to the couch.
He frowned down at you and held an evil scowl. "I'm done! I'm done with everything! Don't call me when you're alone and crying, because I guarantee you, I will be with someone far greater than you! No one will ever love you as much as me! So just keep that in mind!"
He let go of your arms and stormed out, leaving you there. You looked down at your arms, both stinging in pain and tomato-red.
You began to sob so much now, you couldn't even bother to think about how shitty your day had been in total. You lost one of your closest friends, over the guy who broke your heart. You lost your boyfriend, over a girl who knew she'd win over your spot in his heart. And now, you were wishing for Calum's friendship. In fact, you were wishing for more than a friendship with him. Those blurry feelings you had for him were suddenly clear now, and you knew exactly what you wanted, and needed.
But you didn't have the courage to call him. You still were crying and helpless, and if you called him, he probably wouldn't be able to even understand you. That's only if he decided not to ignore your phone call.
You got up and ran to get your keys. You slid into your Toms by the door. You ran to your car and hopped in, driving all the way to Calum's place. The rain was still pouring, and your windshield wipers were slamming back and forth rapidly.
You parked right in front of his home and jumped out of your car. You bolted to his door and beat your fists against it.
When the door opened, he stood their shocked and surprised. You jumped into his arms, sobbing into his chest. The smell of his cologne comforted you. You squeezed him tightly.
He didn't say anything. He just held you close to him, a hand in your hair and an arm wrapped around your waist. He rested his head on your shoulder.
It was probably four in the morning by now, and Calum seemed tired. His body was stiff and cold.
"I'm so sorry for not listening to you---" you muffled into his chest.
"Y/N,"
He parted from you and his face was red as if he was embarassed and shying away.
"It's... It's fine," he smiled, "come in."
You were hesitant for a second, but then you stepped inside. You sat on the couch and Calum followed closely behind. You thought were done with all the crying, but it just wouldn't end, it seemed like.
Calum pulled you close and kissed your forehead.
"Tell me everything," he whispered, trying to calm you down.
You began to blab about what happened when your boyfriend had walked in. You even told him the horrible qoute he said to you. Calum got tense and he looked quite angry. He drew circles in your back with his index finger as you spoke, and frowned everytime you said what Y/BF/N had done.
When you told him about how he pinned you down to the couch, he sat up, a very concerned look on his face.
"Let me see."
You took off your jacket and showed him the fading-red mark that he had left on you. Calum had no words. He was completely shocked that he actually harmed you.
"I'd never do that to you," his deep, tired voice sang to your ears.
"I know..." you paused, squirming a bit at the thrilling silence. "He even said no one else will love me as much as he did."
Calum stopped looking at your bruised arms, and lifted his chin up to face you. His brown eyes locked with yours, holding you captive.
"....I love you, Y/N."
You didn't know what to say. It wasn't as if you didn't know it all along, but for some reason, you were waiting on "as a friend" to be added in.
But he was serious.
"I love you too, Calum." you said softly, half smiling.
He moved in closer to your lips, and you didn't stop him. His luscious lips met yours and your tounges moved in sync as you wrapped your arms around his neck.
He layed you back on the couch, hovering over you, lips never seperating. His hands slid under your shirt, but you stopped him.
"Not tonight, Calum..." you said awkwardly, giggling a bit.
He sighed and went along with you. "You're such a tease,"
After that, you kicked off your shoes and lied next to Calum on the couch, as you both watched cartoons until you fell fast asleep.
