There's Always Someone Else - {Cashton}

Calum:

When you and Calum broke up, you knew that it would take you a long while to get over everything that happened. You and him had dated for almost three years, and after awhile, it seemed like your love for each other was fading. He would pick fights with you over the stupidest things, and you'd accuse him for doing something behind your back just to find a reason to be mad at him. It was the same thing every time: the "you're wrong and I'm right" scenario.

When he left, you felt empty. You weren't as happy as you used to be. Your friends would call and check in, and you'd simply just brush everything off and laugh like everything was normal. Even Ashton, Michael, and Luke would see how you were doing---without Calum knowing, of course. They'd tell you how much they'd missed you hanging around with them.

But today when they visited, it was a bit different. Ashton had been telling you about how Calum had gotten another girlfriend.

"She's a total bitch," Michael added and Luke nodded in agreement.

"Yeah. She told me that Michael's hair makes her want to throw up," Luke added, before almost bursting into laughter. Michael punched his arm.

"Anyway, we wish you were still with him.  He doesn't even act the same around us. It's like she's constantly in his ear about stuff and he doesn't smile or joke around with us like he used to... he's just completely silent," Ashton told you, worry buried beneath his voice.

"What am I supposed to do about it?" You asked, switching gazes between the three of them.

"We want you talk it out with him and get him back. I mean, not just for his sake, but yours too. I mean, you don't look too happy yourself," Luke answered.

"He's already moved on! He has someone now and I can't just jump up and demand for my spot back in his life... and I'm perfectly happy, thank you,"

They all lowered their eyes. "Are you really?" Mikey asked. "I mean, whenever we bring up your name, his mood changes completely. You can tell that he misses you... you don't miss him by the slightest chance?"

You paused in thought. Of course you missed him; you just never wanted to show it. You wanted him to be the one who left broken hearted. Deep down inside, you wanted your place back with him and you hated the fact that some other girl was substituting for you and making life worse for all of them.

"I'll talk to him." You said in a low tone.

They all looked at one another and let out a sigh of relief.

"But before you get too happy, just know, if this new girlfriend of his crosses me in the wrong way---"

"She won't, Y/N." Ashton assured you, giggling a bit. "If she does, we're still here."

You all headed out of your small home and made your way over to the studio, where the band was meeting today to record a new song.

                        *************

When you all arrived, Calum had already been there waiting. When you guys walked in, he shot up from one of the chairs, startled of their sudden appearance.

"What took you guys so---"

When he noticed you, he stopped. His eyes were widened and his mouth was slightly gaped open.

"Y/N?" He said faintly.

He then looked at the guys like a confused, naive child. "Why would you do this to me?"

"Calum... she's here to talk to you." Luke said calmly.

"No. There's nothing to talk about." He replied coldly.

Your heart sank in your stomach as you let his shallow words pierce through you. You didn't understand what you did that was so wrong to make him hate you so much, but all you knew is that he was done with the past.

As you turned to leave, Michael grabbed your hand. He pulled you in the front of them all, and the three of them blocked the doorway.

Ashton spoke next. "You know what, Calum? You're going to talk this out with her whether you like it or not. We'll leave you two alone."

They all left, and as soon as the door clicked shut, you felt the tension deep inside your pores. You sat down in the chair next to him and took in a breath.

"I'm sorry, Calum. I tried everything to make you happy---and it's my fault that I didn't. But you mean too much to me, and I don't like how you're holding up. And I probably can't reverse the hatred that you have for me, but I'm just here to tell you that I still love you; I never stopped loving you,"

It was still silent, and he still hadn't even looked at you. He kept his eyes on the floor beneath him, while he rested his head on his fist---slumped back in the chair.

You sank in your chair too, sighing silently to yourself in defeat.

"I don't hate you, Y/N..."

You furrowed your eyebrows and goosebumps had risen on your brown complexion. He finally sat up and looked at you.

"I love you more than anything. You complete me..." his hand grasped your hand, "I haven't felt the same since you left. I just went around with some girl I don't even like, hoping she could fill this empty space in my heart, but she's not the one. You are,"

You stood up and walked over to him. As you stood hovering above him, he pulled you down by your waist, his dark eyes trailed to your soft lips. He bit his bottom lip before he passionately kissed you. He pulled you closer to him as he slowly licked your lips for the invitation inside. You instantly agreed as you leant over him. His large hands trailed down to your butt as your tongues danced in sync. You guys never separated---and something sparked between the two of you. It was as if this incredibly sexy kiss answered all of your questions.

Suddenly the door knob was jiggling, and you hopped off of him before the door could open.

"Calum, baby?" A female voice was heard outside.

She managed to open the door, and when she saw you awkwardly sitting in a chair next to him, out of breath, she furrowed her eyebrows.

"Oh, hi." she said, looking at you up and down as she shut the door behind her. "You must be here to help Calum with his solo career?"

She flipped her dark hair over her shoulders, batting her fake eyelashes as she sat her expensive purse next to her. She had a creme faux fur jacket, and smelt like fresh money. You could already tell that Calum had been spending a ton of money on her, and she was just bathing in all of it.

"Solo career?" You frowned. "He's in a band with his close friends. Why would he need a solo career?"

"Well he can't be with those three losers forever. I mean, this band is a train wreck bound to happen. It's better if he jumped off it before it crashes," she said nonchalantly.

You looked at her as if she had lost her mind. She was really begging for a foot up where the sun didn't shine.

"Plus," she touched Calum's hand, "my boyfriend and I already decided on this, right, baby?"

He snatched his hand away and looked at her in disgust. "You mean you decided on this? I knew nothing about any of this!"

"You need to be successful and make your own money, without splitting your income four ways. It'll help you financially and fame wise---"

"Why? So you can just sit here and milk more money out of me?" he stood up.

She scoffed. "Of course not! We're in this together!"

He scowled at her for a few seconds, right before the tense anger in his face suddenly began to fade. He clenched his jaw, dropping his arms to both of his sides.

"We're done." He said heartlessly.

Her mouth dropped open, and she stood up, stomping her foot. "You're not leaving me! You have no one else to go to!"

You cleared your throat.

She looked at you, lifted her lip as if you were complete garbage and looked back at him. "This is the girl you talk about in your sleep, huh? Should've known she was your ratchet ex girlfriend! At least we're a better couple to the media!"

"You're not going to disrespect her like that." Calum said sternly.

"What is she going to do about it? I know for one you aren't going to do anything, so what makes this bitch any different?"

She had totally been putting down every part of you as if you were nothing. You shot up and grabbed her by her hair, and began whacking every piece of immodesty out of her.

Michael, Luke, and Ashton barged in as Calum lifted you away from her. You still tried to throw a few punches and kicks at her, but she had been pulled back by the other guys.

"She's always going to be nothing but a ratchet, angry black woman!" She yelled as she was dragged out of the building.

You gritted your teeth, Calum's arms still restrained around your waist. When she was kicked out, he finally released you.

"Glad that's over..."

"If you and the guys wouldn't have held me and her back, she wouldn't have had much to say while I was beating the shit out of her," you mumbled.

Calum laughed at you, as the rest of the guys walked back inside the studio.

"Woah, Y/N," Michael gasped, "I'm so proud of you."

"Yeah, I didn't even want to hold her back, honestly," Luke giggled.

"Shut up," you smirked.

Ashton switched gazes between you and Calum, "So... how did it go?"

You tried your hardest hold back a smile and the happiness in your eyes was obvious to everyone in the room. You cleared your throat.

"Don't you guys have a song you need to record?"

Ashton

Today was a great day.

You were promoted to manager, which mean you got a raise. You had went shopping in celebration, and an elderly woman had payed for your meal at the food court. Then on the way back home, you saw your annoying neighbor with the noisy dogs packing their things into a moving truck.

You didn't understand why you were so happy about everything, even the tiniest things, but you just felt so grateful for all the great things that had happened so far today. Usually, everyday would be a constant dread, but today, you woke up on the right side of bed.

You knew your day could get any better until Ashton called---one of your closest friends. You guys had became friends your sophomore year in high school, and you had been friends all the way until now, and your friendship had been consistent since day one. You kinda liked him, but you knew he was off limits. He had a girlfriend that he had been dating for a long while now.

When you picked up the phone, you heard his relaxing voice up to your very ears, causing you to crack a smile.

"Hey, Ashton!" You said energetically.

"Hey, Y/N!" He chuckled. "What's up?"

"Nothing, just having the best day ever," you laughed.

"That's really great, Y/N!"

You could tell he sounded truly happy for you, which made you jittery inside.

"I just wanted to invite you to... let me get somewhere more private," he whispered.

You sat down, frowning a little. What could he be telling you if he had to say it in private?

You heard a door shut from the end of the line and his shaky voice back in the microphone again.

"Okay, so," he cleared his throat and began whispering again, "I'm having a surprise engagement party tonight,"

You heart had sank, and you knew that this great day of yours was bound to have it's downfall. You shifted around in your seat, lowering your pupils.

"For you... and your girlfriend?" You said softly.

"Yeah! I'm a little nervous," he chuckled again. "The guys are gonna be there too and I just wanted all of you there to support me."

You forced a solicitous tone in your voice. "Well of course I'll be there! I'm happy for you, Ash,"

"Thanks, Y/N. You're the best."

And after you both said your goodbyes, you hung up and sat your phone down, sinking into the couch.

"Just great."

***

After choosing a beautiful dress for tonight's occasion, you added a few revisions to your makeup from earlier. You slipped into your black heels, and grabbed the gift you had bought for Ashton's surprise for his soon-to-be fiancé.

You finally grabbed your car keys, gripping them in the palm of your somewhat-sweaty hands, and you headed out for your car.

Why? Why does it have to be her? You questioned yourself as you drove to the location he had sent to you. I just don't understand...

You knew the answer and you knew it was the way it was supposed to be. Ashton had really loved his girlfriend and he wanted to make her his wife. Why can't I accept this?

After about a half hour of driving, you had arrived. You were in awe of how beautifully this outside occasion had been decorated.

"She is one lucky girl."

When you got out of your car, the sound of a crowd of people talking took you by surprise. This event of his was going to be bigger than you had expected. As you kept walking, you could hear live music playing. It sounded like a massive grand piano and a small band that was playing jazz music.

You had finally made it over to the guys. Luke had smiled and reached to give you a hug once he noticed you.

"Well look who finally made it!" He said.

Calum and Michael had came over to hug you too.

"Where's Ashton?" You inquired.

"He's over there by the lake---by those trees," Calum pointed with a full cup in his hand, "he's a nervous wreck."

"Yeah. He told us that she hasn't shown up yet and he's freaking out," Luke added.

"Well I'll catch up with you guys later. I'm gonna go see what's up,"

After walking through crowds of sophisticated people, you made it over to the dim area with trees, where Ashton was skidding rocks across the surface of the lake. His back was facing you, and you were a little scared to disturb him.

"Hey, Ash." You almost whispered, causing him to jump a little.

He turned around, his beautiful curly hair flowing along with him. He had a white button-up shirt on with black skinny jeans---the usual. He's cheeks were gradually turning pink.

"Y/N? You made it!" He grinned.

"Why wouldn't I be here? My best friend is going to propose tonight!" You giggled... at least you pretended to.

Silence. Complete silence. You knew something was off. He should've been excited for this event; but something about him just wasn't right.

"...I don't know if I want to, Y/N."

"What do you mean? You've been with her for two years almost and you're telling me you're not sure?"

He sat down on a enlarged tree root, resting his arms on his knees. He focused in on the moonlight glistening on the lake, letting it ease him.

"I don't know if I can."

"Why not? Ash, you love this girl! You've spent probably a ton on her ring, and you called everybody out tonight for this event. You can't just bag out because of a little cold feet,"

It took him a moment before he stood up and faced you. "You're right,"

"Aren't I always?"

He lightly chuckled at you.

"Now come on,"

The two of you walked over to the crowds of people again. That's when his soon-to-be-fiancé came up to you, smiling widely.

"Hi, Y/N!"

"Hello, h/gf/n,"

She pulled you in for a hug, the most awkward hug, may I add. When you separated, you raised an eyebrow.

"I thought you weren't here yet," you said, feeling puzzled.

"Oh, no! I came here with Ashton!" She laughed. She leant in, whispering to you, "I really don't know what this is all about but it's gorgeous,"

You falsely laughed along with her. That's when you started rethinking what Luke had told you earlier.

"He told us that she hasn't shown up yet and he's freaking out,"

What did he mean by that if his fiancé was here the whole time?

"Y/N?" His girlfriend waved at you.

"Oh, w-wait. What?"

"I asked you were Ashton was?"

"Oh, I saw him over there... somewhere,"

"Okay," she smiled. "Thank you for coming,"

You nodded.

When she walked away, you sighed. You instantly ran over to the guys, who were, of course, doing something stupid.

"Hey, idiots," you ran over. "was Ashton talking about me earlier?"

They looked at each other and then at you. "I don't know..."

"Ugh---"

A loud screeching noise from the microphone was heard throughout the park. It was Ashton, holding the mic up to his lips as he braced himself for what he was about to do.

"H/GF/N, could you come on stage for a moment?" he smiled, his arm reaching out towards his girlfriend as he helped her on stage.

They looked perfect up there together, the spotlight shining on their tan skin. She held him closely in one arm as she faced the crowd, an uncontrollable smile on her face.

"It's happening," Calum whispered to you and the guys as you all moved in closer.

"H/GF/FN, I've loved you ever since I lied my eyes on you. You pick me up when I'm down, you go through so much for me, and there's never a time when you aren't there for me. I love you so much and..."

He looked at you one last time before he kneeled down in front of her. "I want you to be my wife..."
