After Luke had left, your roommate's and your parents had left as well after hugging you repetitively and reminding you to call them before you went to sleep.
You seriously missed home now that you were all alone in your dorm with your boy-crazy roommate---who cared nothing about your existence---and you didn't know what to think; you had never got this feeling.
It was usually just you and your family, everyday, and now, you hadn't even been separated from them for 24 hours yet and you were already emotionally drained.
"Who was that guy?" your roommate asked, checking her lipstick in the mirror.
"Oh..." You mumbled. You suddenly felt a spark of jealousy as you thought about how flirty she was being towards the guy you had just met. She wasn't even worried about meeting you. All she cared about was Luke, and she didn't care what relationship you could've possibly had with him. "He's my boyfriend." you lied.
The girl seemed so startled. She dropped her lipstick on the floor, blue eyes widened.
"You... and him?" She asked.
You nodded. What was the big deal? She acted as if you told her you murdered someone and hid the body under her bed.
"How come when I asked earlier, you said 'no'?"
"We just keep our relationship on the down low, I guess,"
"Wow..." was all she said for a moment. "I wouldn't have suspected that."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
She simply shrugged her shoulders, picking up her lipstick and starting to rub it on her plump lips again. You were so annoyed, you just wanted to get out. You couldn't stand another moment with her.
"I'm gonna go and tour myself around," you mumbled, pushing yourself off your bed.
"Kay," she smacked her pink, glossy lips, grabbing her eyeshadow palette.
You shut the door behind you and began walking down the long halls, your eyes scattering around in search of the friendly guy that you had just made acquaintance with.
You only saw people huddled up in groups, laughing and greeting each other, and blabbing about how amazing their summer was. Suddenly, all eyes were on you. The difference in skin color between you and the other students around you stood out boldly, and they all seemed surprised that you got accepted to such a high-standard school.
You instantly felt uncomfortable as you continued down the long, dorm hallways, with people staring at you as if you had an extra arm.
"How did she even make it in here?" You heard a girl whisper to one of her friends, and they began giggling afterwards.
You shot your eyes at them, and said, "The same way you made it in here," and you smiled, "Discrimination isn't cute, honey."
You strutted down the rest of the hallway, as everyone stood there, their eyes following you along. They didn't know that you had graduated with a 4.0 GPA, and had gotten many scholarships. You were just as equal as them, black or not, and they had no reason to assume that you weren't eligible to be at such of a successful university.
You made your way to the end of the hall where the elevators were. As one began to close, you saw a glimpse of a familiar face, except three other guys behind him. A hand stuck out, causing the elevator to reopen again. He turned around to one of his friends and told him to hold the elevator door open and ran out, a wide smile on his face.
"Hey, it's you again!" Luke began laughing.
"Nice... You remembered my name," you giggled.
"Oh, I'm sure he didn't forget your name, Y/N," the boy with curly hair grinned as he cut eyes Luke. "He's already told us so much about you."
Luke's cheeks began to flush red, as he glared at the boy.
"Come on, I don't think I can hold this elevator any longer!" The other boy with the odd hair hissed at Luke.
Luke took your hand and pulled you into the elevator with the rest of the guys. You looked around as the two bold, metal doors closed in front of you.
It was a split second of silence, and you could feel four sets of eyes burning through your back. Then a whistle was heard from the tall, tan boy behind you, along with a couple of snickers.
You looked over your shoulder to see Luke's cheeks beet red, as he held his hands together awkwardly. His friends looked as if they were trying to conceal laughter.
You raised an eyebrow and turned back around, facing the metal elevator doors once again.
When it opened, you walked out into the large lobby, the four of them following behind you before coming up on each side of you. You could hear all the uneven beats of footsteps on the marble floor as you looked around the large, pumpkin-scented lobby. The one with colored hair spoke out of nowhere and introduced himself, "I'm Michael. The hot one out of all of us."
"Not true!" the tan one replied defensively. He turned to you and grinned, "I'm Calum. The actual hot one out of all of us."
You nodded, brushing off their goofy egos to try and impress you. You couldn't even help yourself from giggling at the two.
An unanswered question popped back into your head as you raised your eyebrows at them. "What was all that snickering about in the elevator, though?"
They looked at each other, then at Luke. "We were teasing him about you,"
"What about me?" You asked, becoming a little bit self conscious of your skin and how you looked.
"Well Luke might actually get his first girlfriend this year," Michael giggled, earning a punch in the arm by Luke.
The boy who hadn't introduced himself yet finally spoke. "So, Y/N, are you touring around campus?"
You nodded.
"Well you can join us. I'm 'touring' these losers around, since it's their first year here. I'm Ashton by the way: the sophomore." Another one of Luke's friends said calmly as he gave you a warm, dimpled smile.
"I'd love to, and nice to meet you, Ashton,"
As you made eye contact with Ashton for a second, Luke cleared his throat.
"Yeah, I don't mind touring the school and all, but I heard there is supposed to be a party here in the student lounge. They said to bring drinks and I haven't bought any yet," he changed the subject.
Everyone looked at him as if what he was saying was unimportant, but they all shrugged it off and agreed.
"What time will it be?" Ashton asked Luke.
"It starts in a couple of hours. We should probably get going,"
As they all nodded, you stopped at the front double doors, concluding the dorm area. "Well have fun at the party, you guys. It was nice meeting you all---"
As you turned to leave, Calum grabbed your arm gently, with a grin on his face. "You don't think you're leaving just yet, do you?"
"I mean... I wasn't invited?" you laughed.
"So? You can't miss this party. Everyone goes, invitation or not!" Michael beamed.
Before you could even reply, Calum was tugging you out the door with the rest of the guys. They all ran to the car, and you stood over the car for a few seconds.
"Is there enough room for the all of us?" You asked.
"Of course there is. You can sit between me and Luke," Calum smirked, looking across the top of the car at Luke, wiggling his eyebrows.
You laughed at him as Luke's cheek flushed red; they were such a tease towards him.
Calum opened the door and you went in on his side, sitting directly in the middle. Luke had slid next to you, a whiff of his lovable cologne gently tingling your senses. Calum came in after, and then it felt a little more squished. The car was relatively small.
"Well, someone has big hips," Calum joked.
You gasped and looked up into his tan face. "So what my hips are big?"
"You should be proud of it," he flirted, "it's a good thing---"
"Okay, Calum. We get it," Luke mumbled, rolling his eyes.
It was quiet for a split second, then the rest of the boys started laughing. It was like they couldn't stay mad or be serious about anything. You cracked a small smile, trying to hold back your laughter.
As you began driving, the guys had been burying you with questions.
"Where'd you come from?" Michael asked, turning around from the passenger seat to look at you.
"From a small city just a few hours away," you sighed, suddenly getting homesick.
Your eyes lowered as you reminisced your earlier days---even the few years of high school that you somewhat enjoyed. Luke could tell how your feelings had suddenly dampened, and he lied his hand on yours, half smiling as the both of you met eyes. He seemed to be exchanging the same melancholy feeling, and you suddenly felt comfortable; like someone actually understood you.
"Where are you guys from?" You said, looking away from Luke. "You don't sound like you're from around here."
"Sydney, Australia---"
Ashton made a sharp turn, causing all of you to slide roughly to the right. You were leaning all over Calum now, and Luke was leaning all over you.
"Sorry, guys," Ashton apologized quietly, while everyone snapped at him.
"On the bright side, we're here," you chirped, trying to bring off some of the heat on Ashton.
You all hopped out and headed into the large store. Eyes were locked onto you. No one would ever think of a black girl walking around with four massively tall Australian boys, because for some apparent reason, no one could stop staring.
"Man, I couldn't tell you how many dirty looks I've gotten so far and it hasn't even been 24 hours yet," you mumbled to the guys.
Calum looked at you and nodded, "I can relate. Poc problems,"
All of you began laughing as you headed inside.
****
"Why so many crates of beer?" You asked, as you frowned, trying to keep hold of all four crates that was cradled in your arms.
You guys were finally heading to the party, and the guys had bought at least sixteen crates. All of you were carrying your portion---four crates each---while you were making your way inside the party.
"There's gonna be a ton of people here. I mean, there was last year," Ashton grinned.
"Also known as the year he snuck us in," Mikey added. "That was the best night of my life."
"Yeah, Y/N, you'll have a good time for sure," Calum smiled.
You took in all their words of comfort and half smiled, striding your way to the student lounge.
You could see tons of college students making their way into an average-sized building, and you suddenly got chills up and down your spine.
I'll have a great time tonight... You told yourself many times inside your mind to calm your nerves.
As you got closer to the doors of the party, you got more discouraged. Your mind was raging with thoughts, changing course by the millisecond. This school had already been giving you a handful of dirty looks, so who knows what'll happen when you stepped foot in some stupid party?
Not only that, but you had never been to a party before. You had spent most of your time studying, trying to aim for the 4.0 GPA that you had achieved. Even if you didn't have any homework to do and you wanted to go to a party, your parents would simply reject your request, causing you to miss out on a lot of your high school memories.
You guys were standing in front of the booming door now, and as soon as Ashton tugged it open, it was like an explosion of loud music in your ears. The large room was dark, and decked out in different lights, slashing in every corner of the room. There were tons of couches, crowded with people, red solo cups in hand and their lips attached to one another. There were students out on the dance floor, dancing against each other to some strange song you had never heard before. If this was what you were "missing out on" all this time, then you were glad.
A guy---who you assumed was the host---came walking over, a wide grin on his face.
"Boys! You made it!" He said excitedly, as he bro-hugged the four of them. "And you brought drinks?"
"What's a party without them?" Calum raised an eyebrow.
The boy switched gazes from the foursome to you and smirked. "And who's this lovely babe we've brought?"
You gave him a fake smile and introduced yourself casually. "I'm Y/N. I made acquaintance with these guys today. They're the only friends I have so far,"
The boy combed his fingers through his brown, silky hair, coming closer to you to shake your filled hands.
"I'm Parker... and I hope you're still in the mood to make another friend?" he flirtatiously looked at you, his green eyes sending another message to your head.
His pale hands reached for yours, and he brought your hand up to his pink, soft lips. When he gently kissed it, you calmly tugged your hand away. You didn't understand why you were getting all of this attention all of a sudden.
"Well maybe we should get going," Ashton interrupted Parker's intention to become 'friends' with you.
"Agreed. These crates are gonna slip out of my arms in then next few seconds," Michael added.
"Sure," he said, never taking his eyes off you.
Parker led you over to the cooler, and after you guys had placed them all inside, you looked around.
A familiar figure was coming near the five of you, a wide grin plastered on her face, with familiar red lipstick, and with shoulder-length blonde hair and a boy-crazy look displaying from their eyes.
"Well aren't you going to introduce me to these lovely friends of yours?" Kaylynn smirked.
