Party's Over, Kids | Steve Rogers x Reader

Sam whistles, eyebrows raising. "You look nice, Y/N."

Clint makes a noise of agreement, pausing to give you one glance before turning back to his chocolate cake.

"You really do, Y/N." Natasha says approvingly, reaching for the bag of chips.

You laugh, shrugging off the compliments. "Hill made me wear something nice."

You sneak away a chip from her, pretending not to notice her deadly glare as she places it far out of reach, continuing to munch away. Tony really has outdone himself for this party, with the Tower all dazzled up for the event, but you can bet almost anything that it has to do with Pepper.

Speaking of which, the party seems to focus mostly on couples. Of course, with the whole Valentines Day thing going on, it's to be expected, but you can't deny its a bit disconcerting to see Natasha flirting openly with Bruce, who's in his classic lab coat and looks like a mix between embarrassed and shy.

Clint is on the phone with someone, murmuring so softly you can't hear, but between the lulling sounds of the crowd, you catch a faint, "I love you, Laura" coming from his lips.

Of course, Sam and Rhodey are much too busy attempting to seduce a group of giggling girls, who have too tight dresses and too much make up.

Which leaves only one person left without any romance.

      You.

Attempting to seem normal and not completely pathetic, you take a sip of your drink, cheeks reddening from the alcohol. So much so that you don't quite notice the man coming up behind you until he's hovering right next to you, a hand on your shoulder.

"Captain!" You exclaim in surprise, just barely catching your drink before it can spill its contents on your expensive dress.

Steve offers a faint smile. "No date?"

You chuckle, setting the glass down on the table. "Oh, no. It's not really my thing."

He's silent for a moment, and you think you've said something wrong, but before you can rush to amend it, he's already speaking.

"So, no romance then? None?" He questions, raising an eyebrow at you. You flush, a brilliant shade of red spreading across your face.

"Well, I suppose," you begin, smiling coyly. "If the right person came along, then maybe, just maybe..." You trail off, letting the sentence hang in the air, before finally breaking the almost tangible tension in the air by standing up abruptly.

"I think I'll go. Parties aren't really my thing."

But his hand is on your wrist, firmly but gently encircling it. "Not so fast, Y/N. I've still got some questions left for you."

You begin to burn up again, and if it's even possible, turn another shade darker, matching the tacky red hearts that are dangling from the ceiling.

"Make it quick." You try to sound calm and collected. All this training, and for what? You scoff internally, berating yourself for losing your cool so easily.

But Steve continues smiling, leaning in. "Oh, trust me. I will."

His lips are on your own, and it feels absolutely incredible, kissing Steve Rogers. For a man who's supposedly a 97 year old virgin, he sure can kiss.

You dimly note in the back of your muddled brain that the initial chatter and din of the party is now gone, and once you finally come back up for air, cheering breaks out.

     "Get it, Capsicle!"

Tony. God, he's embarrassing. Pepper seems to think so too, shaking her head before shooting you a smile, eyes sparkling.

Steve seems to pick up on your embarrassment as he leans back in, ready for another kiss.

"Party's over, kids!" He shouts, to which mock yells of disappointment and groans come back.

You smile against his lips, giddy. "I changed my mind. Don't make it quick."
