Chapter 38- senior camp!
Today's it. Senior camp. Finally.
I remember as a sophomore the then seniors climbing onto the bus as I walked into school, music blaring everyone cheering. It seemed amazing.
And now it's here and we can do it.
"Emily you ready?" Casey asks me from my bedroom door and I smile and nod.
I carry my luggage down and tell my parents goodbye and then hull my bags into Caseys truck and then drive to the school
It's 7am and it's a long trip to the lake where we are camping out at so we have to leave early to get there early.
We pull up at the school and hop out then walk over to our friends.
Holly and Seth are leaning against the bus making out making me and Casey laugh.
Caseys yells Seths name and they pull away.
"I'll remember that mate when you and Em are making out. I'll remember." Seth responds as we walk towards them.
Casey interlinks our fingers while we wait for the rest of the seniors so we can start our journey.
"We bunking together Em?" Holly asks me.
"Ah this is awkward. I was actually planning on bunking with Amber." I say sarcastically looking away awkwardly.
"Ha ha. Funny." Holly says making everyone laugh.
"Yes Holls. I will." I say and she smiles.
"Where's Jay?" Casey asks.
"Over here QB." Jamie yells from behind us as he walks towards us with Katie beside him.
"Hey Katie, wanna share a tent with me and Holls? It's 3 per tent." I smile.
"Yeah that would be great. Thank you."
"Bus buddies?" Casey asks hitting his hip off mine and I smile and nod.
"And you mine?" Seth asks Holly making her nod like me.
We all then turn our attention to Jamie and Katie who looks at us with confusion.
"Looks like it's only you two left."I shrug and Katie tilts her head in an 'are you kidding me' look making me chuckle along with Holly.
"Well, I mean, you could always sit with Amber." Holly says and I laugh and give Holly a high five.
"Seniors!" Ms Elliot shouts over us and everyone turns their attention to her.
"Please start boarding the bus and then we will take attendance on the bus." She says and instantly everyone heads for the bus.
We are standing in the line for bus all together and then we get on.
Seth and Holly sit in the set of seats beside us and Katie and Jamie are behind us.
Everyone is all buzzed as the driver drives away from the school.
Me and Casey just talk about everything and anything while listening to music through my earbuds.
"This is going to be amazing." Holly smiles across Seth and I smile back.
"Guys couples can't share tents by the way." Jamie says standing up and leaning over his chair to talk to us.
"So that means you can't sleep with Katie. Bummer." Casey replies and I chuckle and lean my head on his shoulder.
"What time will we get there at?" Seth asks.
"10 maybe. Another hour and a bit to go." I say.
I put my head on Caseys shoulder and fall into a deep slumber before being woken up by cheering and loud music.
We are stopped at the lake and everyone is all hyper even though it's only 10 am.
"Okay calmly exit the bus and wait outside and collect your luggage." Ms Elliot calls out and we all unbuckle our seat belts and wait for everyone at the front to get and then it's our turn.
I got to the side and grab my luggage as do the others.
By now, everyone has collected their bags and we are all sitting on the grass leaning against our bags.
"Okay guys. First we are going to start pitching our tents. 3 per tent. Girls and boys only per tent." Ms Elliot warns.
Instantly, me Katie and Holly begin to pitch our tent beside the lake but behind the boys.
"No Holls, this goes here." I argue after a couple of minutes of us trying to pitch the tent.
"Need help girls?" Casey smirks leaning against the tree beside us.
"No. We're fine." I say through gritted teeth.
"Are you sure?" Seth questions.
I sigh and stand up straight.
"I won a Girl Scout trophy for the best tent pitched 5 years running. I think I know what I'm doing." I grin.
The boys hold their hands up in defence and I get back to the tent and then eventually, I lose it.
"Admit you need help Em." Case chuckles and I groan and throw my head back.
"I was a Girl Scout. I shouldn't need help with this stuff." I mutter as I step back and the boys take control.
15 minutes later, the tent is ready and its 2.
"My hero." I smile sarcastically and Casey wraps his arm around my shoulders and mine around his waist.
"So guys, you are allowed Rome around the campsite for an hour and do whatever y'all want." Ms Elliot says.
I love Ms Elliot, she's so chill.
Casey removed his arm from my shoulder and places it in my hands linking our fingers.
"Jamie brought a basketball if you wanna shoot some hoops." Casey says to me.
"Have you ever seen me play basketball before? I suck." I tilt my head and Casey chuckles.
"Unfortunately, yes. But what better time to learn than before high school ends." Casey smiles.
"Don't we need a hoop?"
"And one we have."
I sigh shrugging.
"Fine. Show me the way."
Casey guides me to a road beside the lake where no cars can enter so it was safe. There was a wall with a rusty basketball net placed on it.
Seth, Holly, Jamie, Katie and these other footballer players are there already with a huge speaker leaning against a tree with Last Night by The Vamps roaring from it.
"Okay 3 on 3." One of the footballers called Kian says.
"QB, choose captains." He continues.
"Me Seth Kian."
"Okay you're up." Jamie says.
Casey looks at everyone and once his eyes land on me, he smiles and points at me.
"Emily."
I smile and walk over to him as he throws his arm around my shoulder and pulls me in to kiss my temple.
True love is when your boyfriend chooses you first for his team even though you are brutal.
It was now Seths turn.
"Jamie." He says high giving him.
Oh Holly is going to be after him later.
"Katie." Kian chooses.
"Ryan." Case picks.
"Holly." Seth.
"Ben." Kian.
"Okay let's start." Casey claps.
"Are you sure you want me on your team?" I question.
"I wouldn't want anyone else." He smiles and I smile back.
From throw out, Casey has possession of the ball and he passes it to an unexpected me.
I flinch as it comes to me and awkwardly catch it.
"Run Em." Casey chuckles.
I run bouncing the ball dodging some players and eventually shoot. Miss.
Ohs erupt throughout the road and I slump down.
"That was good for your first time Em. I almost broke a window on my first shot." Casey calls out and I smirk.
"You were 5." I sigh.
"Hey, you were better than a 5 year old if that helps."
"It didn't help." I shake my head and everyone chuckles.
A couple minutes passed and our team won with me shooting one hoop surprisingly enough.
"This is getting boring. Let's go scare some cheerleaders." One of the footballers say making some of the others agree and me and Holly roll our eyes. How are some of them guys legally adults? I seriously think 18 should be reconsidered as the legal age. Maybe 21? 30? Never for some people.
Everyone disappears leaving me and Casey left.
Casey slowly walks up to me and wraps his arm around my waist.
"How about, a private session." He whispers seductively making me laugh.
"I suck."
"I agree. But practice makes perfect."
"What's the point? I won't need basketball in college or life."
"True but you can't leave high school not knowing either. Your choice."
I bite the inside of my lip and nod.
Casey steps away and picks up the ball throwing it to me.
"Okay um BEEF." He yells and I look at him with confusion written all over my face.
"Y'know BEEF." He says again and I laugh again.
"Base." He yells and I continue laughing.
"What's so funny?" Casey question.
"I have no idea what you are saying." I laugh.
He sighs and grabs one of my legs separating it in a certain distance from the other.
"Base." He points to my feet and I nod.
"Now eyes. Look at the point where u want the ball to hit. And that is the?"
"Backboard?" I guess and he smiles.
"Elbow." Casey yells.
I quickly position my elbow in a tight angle while holding the ball.
"Follow through." Casey hollers.
I take a deep breath and then bounce off my legs watching the ball fly through the air closing the distance between us and the net and it bounces off the backboard then spins on the ring a bit then, falls in.
I scream jumping up and down in excitement.
"I know how to play basketball yay."
"You know how to shoot a basket. Playing basketball is completely different." Casey smirks and I sigh.
"You know what, I'm sure Einstein never knew how to play basketball." I say throwing it behind me at a chuckling Casey.
He runs catching up with me and tickles my waist as we run back into the campsite.
It's 3.30 now and everyone is lying against trees or bags and I sigh.
"What is everyone doing lying around? This is senior camp. The only one we will ever have. The only time we have left together until God knows how long."
"We have nothing to do Em." Holly says.
I walk up to Ms Elliot and ask her for the clipboard in her hands which she happily hands to me.
"We have a list of activities for us to do."
"They are all scheduled though. If we do one thing now we have a free space for tomorrow." Ms Elliot explains.
"Well then we have to just make our own fun. Everyone think." I smile.
The place goes silent until I get an idea. It was a long shot but worth it.
"How about relay?" I suggest.
Everyone's eyes light up and I smile running onto the bus and looking for the items necessary for it.
Once I find cones and balls I run back to the grass.
"Split up into groups of 6." I say throwing cones on the ground.
Once I'm finished, I look around for a team to join and Casey calls me over.
Our team is made up of me Holly Seth Jamie Katie and Casey.
"Okay we are going to start off with a basic relay. Running. But if you must hold this ball and pass it to the next person and sit down when your back and the team with everyone down wins. Yeah?" Everyone shouts yeah.
"Cool. Ready. Steady. Go!" I yell.
First in our group was Holly and I was next.
Holly is second against the other teams and when she reaches me, she passes the ball and I run.
The team beside us drop the ball allowing me to come first place.
I get back and pass the ball to Jamie.
This goes on for a while until the team at the end are all sitting down and we come second.
Everyone starts awing in frustration.
"What's next Em?"
"I don't know." I hum as I look around the forest and smile once something catches my eye.
"Never mind."
