Chapter 14~ "Homecoming"
CASEYS POV
"You like Emily?" Seth asks.
I pull him away from the middle of the dance floor and into a corner.
"Little louder Seth, I don't think Africa heard you." I say rolling my eyes.
"I'm sorry but you liking Emily? You liking anybody is bizarre but Em?"
"Seth you can't tell anybody. Not Holly. Not Jamie. Nobody."
He held his hands up in defence and backed off.
"I won't don't worry dude. Let's go out. I have something to tell Holly." He says.
He stopped and looked back at me.
"Not that." He says.
A slow song begins to play and Seth and Holly dance.
I notice Emily standing in the corner awkwardly looking at all the couples.
This is my chance.
I go to make a move and ask her to dance when somebody steps in front of me.
"Wanna dance with me Emily?" The familiar voice asks.
Jamie?
Emily's POV
"Wanna dance with me?" Jamie asks.
I look up from the floor and smile and put my hand in his as he leads me to the dance floor.
A Thousand Years by Christina Perri plays gently through the speakers.
I place my hands around Jamie's neck and he places his on my hips.
"You look beautiful Em." He whispers.
I look down at the ground and smile then back up at Jamie.
"Jamie I'm sorry about the other day. Casey is my best friend and I didn't want to be rude and tell him he couldn't come but I know it was even worse to bring him along." I whisper as I look into his big brown eyes.
"Emily, I didn't care that you brought Casey. I don't hate the guy, he's one of my best friends. What bothered me most, is the fact that you were hesitant about going out with me in the first place and then bringing Casey, just made me think you were afraid to be alone with me or something."
"That isn't true. I was hesitant because," I can't tell him about my feelings for Casey!
"Because I didn't want to ruin our friendship. I care too much about you and our friendship to throw it away for dinner." I say.
"But," I begin and his eyes light up.
"Seeings how we got over this very awkward situation, I think we could give it another go." I smile.
"So what are you saying?" He asks.
"I'm saying I would like to go out with you Jamie. On a proper date. No Caseys. Promise." I smile and chuckle.
"In that case, Emily would you like to go on a date with me tomorrow night?"
"Um, I'll have to think about it." I say and then laugh.
"I'd love to Jamie." I say and he pulls me closer to his chest and then the song finishes.
CASEYS POV
I look over at the girl I've been in love with since I was 5 years old, dancing with one of my best friends.
But I can't do anything about it, he doesn't know I have feelings for Emily.
"You okay Bud?" Seth asks coming up beside me at the punch table.
"Yeah, I'll get over it. Where's Holly?"
"Making a request. I think."
"I think you should tell her." Seth says.
I look at him confusingly and he tilts his head then looks at me.
"Emily. You should tell her."
"No. It's not an option. It would ruin our friendship and make things very awkward if it didn't work out. Just not worth it."
I spot Holly walking back in our direction but Seth continues.
"She might feel the same though Case. You won't know until you admit your feelings to her." He says.
"It's not happening. Give it rest Seth."
"Hey Case. Where's Emily?" Holly asks.
"I don't know, somewhere with Jamie. I guess." I shrug.
"Oh well I'm gonna go find her. Bye babe." She gives Seth a quick kiss.
As she walks off, I continue looking at all the awful dancers in the middle of the dance floor tripping over.
The song finishes and out of the corner of my eye, I see Holly walk in with Emily by her side.
I freeze when a song begins to play.
"Oh, how coincidental, it's your song." Seth whispers to me then walks off with Holly but not before he pushes me in Emily's direction.
Holly did the same to Emily and before we know it, we walked towards each other.
I scratched the back of my neck awkwardly and look back at Seth shaking my head.
I turn my attention back to Emily and hold my hand out to her.
"Wanna dance?" I ask and she nods as "Don't Run Away" comes on.

I place my hand on her hips as she awkwardly wraps hers around my neck.
After a good few seconds of silence, I smirk and look away.
"God I hate this song." I say and Emily chuckles placing her head on my chest as I join in laughing.
She moves her head back and looks at Holly and Seth over my shoulder.
"We are too old for this crap."
"Dancing?" I question.
"No. Bullying each other into dances." I chuckle.
"So, I seen you dancing with Dawn." I say stiffly.
"Yeah, we're gonna give the date another go." She says slowly.
We stop talking for a couple seconds, then I look at her.
"What will happen? After graduation, I mean." I question.
She looks down at the ground making a piece of her hair cover her eyes.
She looks back up at me and brings her shoulder up to her ear then drops it.
"I don't know Case. I still haven't got an acceptance letter."
"No, I mean with us. We've been neighbours for 12 years. Best friends for 12 years. We did everything together, for 12 years. It's not going to be easy saying goodbye." I admit.
"I can't say goodbye to you Casey, not yet. But when Kentucky accept you, you won't have to think twice about leaving." She smiles lightly.
"You have no idea how much I love you Em." I say giving her a hug.
No idea at all.
Emilys POV
The music suddenly stops and me and Holly stop dancing as us and everyone else in the gym looks up at the main stage were Principal Matthews stood.
"Attention. Attention." She calls.
"Welcome to senior homecoming. I know you all want to get back to dancing so I'll make this quick. Could all of the homecoming court candidates come on stage."
Me and Holly join hands and walk up the steps off the stage along with all the other princesses and the princes.
"Our following princesses are Ashley Thomas." Everyone claps.
"Laura Martin." Clap.
"Haley Sieve." Clap.
"Holly Collins." Clap.
"Emily Hunter." Clap.
"Now we have two candidates drop out of the princess court but need no worry, the show must go on."
"The princes are as follows."
"Austin Thomas." Clap.
"Seth Mitchell." Clap.
"Kian Pipers." Clap.
"Charlie Burke." Clap.
"Liam Bell." Clap.
"Jamie Dawn." Clap.
"Casey St Cloud." Double clap.
"Okay, your senior homecoming king and queen of 2016 are....."
Silence.
Get to the point Matthews......
"Mr Casey St Cloud and Ms Emily Hunter." She announces and everyone claps and hollers.
Cliché much?
We both walk to the middle of the stage and get our crowns then a slow song plays.
"And now for the King and Queen to have their first dance." Matthews calls.
Jar of Hearts starts to play as we make our way to the centre of the room.
We get into our previous position and dance uncomfortably.
"Why has this gotten so awkward?" Casey asks.
"I don't know, b-but I can't do this. I'm sorry Case. I-I I just can't." I run off.
