Not Just Another Cliché

"We can do this. Just take a deep breath and do it." Holly says clearly being over dramatic.

"Oh get off the stage Holl." I say pushing the door open.

Right now, we are waiting to go into algebra to find out our test results and Holly is being dramatic as usual.

Most of the students are cheering and the others have their heads down on the desk and I seen David Cobie bang his head off the wall repeatedly.

We all go to our desks and look at each other hesitantly.

I turn mine over and see a big A in red pen and a 92 beside it.

"What you get Em?" Casey asks me.

"92." I squeal.

"Sweet. I got 73. Guess it's pretty good." He shrugs.

"Seeing as your average is 60. I think it's pretty good." I grin making him smile.

"What did you get Julia Roberts?" I ask Holly making everyone laugh at my comment.

"It's not good Em. It's not good at all."

"What did you get babe?" Seth asks.

"76."

"That's good Holl." I smile.

"Seth?" Casey asks.

"80."

We all turn our attention to Jamie who still hasn't flicked his paper over.

I walk up to him and place my hand on his upper arm.

"You can do it Jay." I smile.

He takes a deep breath and flips it over.

I see a B- circled on his paper and I squeal.

"You did it Jamie." I say.

"Way to go Jame." The rest say.

"What did you need again?" I question.

"75."

"You got 78." I say.

He smiles and lifts me up.

"Bulldogs here I come." He says and everyone cheers.

"Emily. Hurry up. We're gonna be late." Casey shouts up to me.

I sigh and try get down the stairs as fast as possible.

"Excuse me if I only have foot and the other is depending on a metal bar."

"What are you doing?" Holly exclaims.

"Breaking my neck to make sure you guys aren't late." I say.

"No I mean what are you wearing?"

"It's cold outside. I know sweatpants to a football game isn't very fancy but it's like 40 degrees out there. Back off."

"I told you Emily, you must wear your cheer uniform. Whether you're on the sidelines, bleachers whatever. You are forever a Tiger. Now go and change into your uniform."

I sigh knowing I can't argue my way out of this one and gently run up the stairs fast enough that I'll be ready in 10 minutes but slow enough that I don't do more damage.

I head to my closet and pull out my red and black uniform and gently slip it on then putting my white converse on.

My hair that was once down and flowing around my shoulders is now thrown up into a high ponytail with our schools colours on a ribbon that is tied around my ponytail.

I look in my mirror at myself in my uniform that I will only have for unlimited time now since we graduate in a few months.

"Emily." Casey shouts up and I go to grab my crutches but decide against it. I'm sure I won't need them.

I gently walk down the stairs and make my way to my best friends.

"That's better. Now let's go, we got some Bulldogs to beat." Holly cheers.

We pull up in the car park of our high school and the flashing lights of the football field and cheering has me feeling kind of sad that I'm not cheering tonight.

We make our way into the crowd and I spot my parents and Caseys parents sitting beside each other with Olivia and Megan running up and down the steps of the bleachers.

"Good Luck Case. I'll be cheering you on from the bleachers." I say about to walk off when I suddenly feel a hand grabbing my shoulder and pulling me back.

"You can cheer from here." Holly says.

We give Casey a quick hug before he runs off to the other guys and go into the locker room.

"Well, well, well, look what we have here. I thought you couldn't cheer because of your incident." The all too familiar voice says making me look up. I gag at the way she says 'incident'.

"Well Amber, not all of us our suspended from the team so we like to support them not just use our cheer uniforms to form an identity." I grin.

She chuckles viciously and looks at me.

"I thought you'd learn your lesson after middle school but clearly you didn't that's why I had to take extreme measures to get my point across."

"Oh by the way, thanks for the social boost. Got 11 new followers. Score."

Her grin instantly disappears and she leans in so she's closer to my ear making me sit up in alert.

"Stay away from Casey."

She quickly saunters away and I feel my stomach drop.

Her words aren't fully registered in my head but I keep replaying them anyway.

Stay away from Casey.

Stay away from my best friend, neighbour and crush?

My thoughts are interrupted by Casey and Holly standing in front of me.

"Emily? Emily? What did she say to you?" Casey asks me.

I shake my head and force a smile, "nothing. Just Amber being Amber. You better go, coach is calling."

He turns his head to the coach and then his attention is back on me. He smiles a sad smile then runs off throwing his helmet over his head.

"Em? What was it?" Holly asks me.

I shake my head knowing if I speak again, I'll be in floods.

I feel tears blurring my vision.

"Not here you don't." Holly says and quickly takes me hand and walks into the girls locker rooms with me.

She sits down beside me and places her hand on my shoulder.

"What did she tell you Emily?"

I suck in a breath preparing to tell my best friend what Amber ordered.

"She told me, to stay away, from," I begin but feel the tears taking over.

"From who?" Silence.

"From who Em? Stay away from who?"

"From Casey." I shout.

"She told me to stay away from, Casey." I whisper.

"Oh Emily."

Suddenly my sadness is taking over by anger and I jump up from the bench and hit a locker.

"Why is high school on a constant loop? Amber does something to me, you all comfort me and help me through it, things go back to normal then Amber does something, you comfort me all is okay. Until Amber does something." I yell.

"Why is middle school being repeated Hols?" I question.

"Like I said before, she's jealous. Even more now that she knows she lost Casey. She needs him back and she thinks intimidating you will get you to back off."

I hear the locker room door open and someone walks over to me and Holly.

"Sorry to interrupt but we need you outside Holly." Haley says.

"I'll be out in a minute Hales." Holly smiles and Haley walks away.

She turns her attention to me and smiles apologetically.

"Go. They need you."

She smiles and begins to walk away then stops and turns around.

"Don't back down." She walks off.

Filler chapter? I think so!

I needed to get this in just to make more chapters so I can reach like chapter 15 which will be great from then on. Hopefully.

Sorry I haven't updated recently but I have senior camp on Friday and we have been so busy.

Ill try my best to keep my updates as frequent as possible but until then, let me know what you think and if you have any thoughts on characters names or the cast list, let me know.
