Chapter thirteen: Visiting Day!
Chapter Thirteen!
As soon as I wake up, I already hear shuffiling of feet, almost everyone is awake. Today is not just any day. Today is the BIG DAY! I look to my left to see a suprisingly upbeat Tris, pacing around the room, I see Will pull out from his drawer a pair of glasses that he obviously kept during initiation. Al is out of site, and I'm tired, but I get up anyways.
Everyone gets dressed silently. No one talks, and no one smiles, and ofcourse no one talks.Eric walks in.
“Attention!” he announces, flicking a lock of dark hair from his eyes. “I want to give you some advice about today. If by some miracle your families do come to visit you…” He scans our faces and smirks. “…which I doubt, it is best not to seem too attached. That will make it easier for you, and easier for them. We all so take the phrase ‘faction before blood’ very seriously here. Attachment to your family suggests you aren’t entirely pleased with your faction, which would be shameful. Understand?”
I understand. I hear the threat in Eric’s sharp voice. The only par t of that speech that Eric meant was the last part: We are Dauntless, and we need to act accordingly. I walk out, and wait for Will, and Tris, Will stands next to me, but Eric stops Tris.
“I may have underestimated you, Stiff,” he says. “You did well yesterday.” she stare up at him.
“Thank you,” she says. Then joins us.
.........................................................
We begin to walk to the pit, and everyone seems so,,,,down! Tris walks slowly behind Will and I. Will never looked so weak before. He looks crushed.
"What if our familys don't come, I have no idea what I will do!" Will says, with a frown.
"Come on silly you're starting to get even me down, so turn that frown upside down." I say, Will at first just gives me a big frown, which makes me laugh, but then I touch Wills two perfect dimpels, and turn them into a smile, which is easy, because Will smiles with me. He starts to laugh.
as soon as we arrive at the pit, my eyes swoop over the whole entire audience. That when I see my mom, and Rose standing in the middle of the pit. They're both looking around to find me, they both look pretty frightened, but I don't care, because they came...they came for me!
I began to rush twoards them. Just them my mother looks at me with the most loveable look that a mother can give a daughter. She runs twoards me, then she stops infront of, Rose besides her. My mothers wearing black long pants, and a buttoned down white shirt-typical Candor outfit. She lends me her hand, and I do what I always did, I shake it twice. Then we hug.
I missed her so much.
"Christina, I love you so much." My mother says,
"I love you to." I say. Next I hug Rose, I miss her small fingers around my back.
"Wheres Dad?" I ask, my mom dosen't even think she just blurts out,
"He's still really mad, that you left us, he said that he doesn't want to see the daughter whom abandened us." My mother says harshly, harshly nut honestly. Thats the one thing that I don't miss about home, the ugly truth.
"So Rose, mom, how has everything been since I left?" I ask.
"Everything has been, bad we miss you a lot, things have been wierd in Candor, your father and I have been fighting more than usual." My mother says.
"I miss arguing with you, and making fun of your hair, which looks really good today. Maybe I should transfer to Dauntles when I'm sixteen." Rose says.
"Don't even think about it, you have a long way to go, before you have to choose." I say skimming her hair with my hand. I spot Drew and Molly standing alone at one end of the room and suppress a smile. At least their families didn’t come.
But Peter’s did. He stands next to a tall man with bushy eyebrows and a short, meek-looking woman with red hair. Neither of his parents looks like him. They both wear black pants and white shirts, typical Candor outfits, and his father speaks so loudly I can almost hear him from where I stand. Do they know what kind of person their son is? I see Tris with a women wearing a typical gray robe for Abnegation. Tris looks happy. Across the room, Will stands with a woman in a blue dress. That must be Wills sisster Cara.
Will skims through the crowd then waves at me. He walks over, with his sisster.
"Hey Christina, I'd like you to meet ymy sisster Cara." Will says. Cara shows no sign of greeting or even happiness, so I don't show her.
"Hi," I say awkwardly to Cara she smirks in an unhappy way. "Will I'd like you to meet my mother, Stephanie, and my sisster, Rose." I say, my mother lends her hand to Will, and he shakes it twice, for a second I wonder how he knows about shaking hands twice, but the glasses he's wearing that he doesn't need says it all.
Then Tris arrives with her mother. When she introduces her mother, her mother lends out her hand, but when Will introduces me to Cara, his older sister, she gives her the kind of look that would wither a plant and does not extend her hand for her to shake. She glares at her mother.
“I can’t believe that you associate with one of them, Will,” she says.
“Cara,” says Will, frowning, “there’s no need to be rude.”
“Oh, certainly not. Do you know what she is?” She points at Tris's mother. “She’s a council member’s wife is what she is. She runs the ‘volunteer agency’ that supposedly helps the factionless. You think I don’t know that you’re just hoarding goods to distribute to your own faction while we don’t get fresh food for a month, huh? Food for the factionless, my eye.”
“I’m sorry,” her mother says gently. “I believe you are mistaken.”
“Mistaken. Ha,” Cara snaps. “I’m sure you’re exactly what you seem. A faction of happy-go-luck y do-gooders without a selfish bone in their bodies. Right.”
“Don’t speak to my mother that way,” Tris snaps, she clench's her hands into fists. “Don’t say another word to her or I swear I will break your nose.”
“Back off, Tris,” Will says. “You’re not going to punch my sister.”
“Oh?” She says, raising both eyebrows. “You think so?”
“No, you’re not.” Her Mother touches my shoulder. “Come on, Beatrice. We wouldn’t want to bother your friend’s sister.” Then her mother leaves with Tris to somewhere. My mother and I also break away from the group with Rose. I gave them a tour of Dauntless.
"This is what we call the chasm it-"
"Are you crazy, what if someone falls? are all of you idiots?" My mother blurts out. just then Eric passes by. Oh god help me! I think.
"Well Christina, arent you going to introduce me to your lovely family." Eric says, with an inocent smile.
"I was just about to," I say. " This is my mother, Stephanie. and my sisster Rose." I say, eric lends out his hand, and my mother shakes it twice.
"You have a lot of piercings, and a really big nose, how old are you? fourty?" Rose says. Eric smiles, a suprisingly nice smile, I can tell that if Rose were one of his initiates, he would hang her, by the chasm like he did to me. He bends down so he's Roses hight, then he lends out his hand, Rose shakes it, then Eric whispers in her ear
"Thank you for your honesty." Now that suprised me. "Christina visiting day is over say goodbye to your family." He says, but dosen't leave. I have to make it seem like I'm over my family, so I hug them, and my mother was so brave, she and Rose, didn't cry. Then I waved as they left.
To make a dramatic ending, for a dramatic day, I walk to Eric.
"Thank god they'r'e gone." I sigh.
"Why do you say that?" Eric says with a grin, obviously likeing where this is going.
"I left Candor for a reason, try spending even one full day with a Candor, espeacally my familly. Well, who needs them now when i've got Dauntless, right?" I say.
"Right" He shrugs, with that I head back to the dormitory, and go to sleep, i see Will. He has a few tears in his eyes but he dosent cry, or show it.
"You okay?" ask. he nods his head.
"I'll be fine." He syas, but I'm nit buying it. I grab his arms, and pull him at to his feet. I hug him, and he squeezes me. i inhale the smell of him, andhug him. "Thank you Christina."
