Chapter one: the day before!

Chapter one!

"Christina...Christina...Christina!" my sister Rose yelled, in the hope of waking me up.

"Go away!" I moaned. Although I was not talking to my sister I was talking to the man in my dream I was dreaming.

"Christina...Christina wake up!" I heard her yell again. Then I felt a touch on my shoulder. On my first instinct my fist shot up in the air as i rose awake, ralizing it was just a dream.

"huh!" I gasped for breath.

"Ow!" Rose whined.

"I'm sorry. Rose how many times do I have to remind you not to touch me while im sleeping?" I scram at her. She started counting her fingers. as if she's realy counting! I thought, waiting for her to answer.

"Twelve!" She answered sarcastically. I rolled my eyes. sisters! I thought.

"God Christina, whats up with your hair? you look like a lion sat on your face, and then somehow an electric eal shocked your hair into looking like that!" My sister said. I put on the fakest smile I have.

"Thank you for your honesty!" I said through grited teeth -it's what you say in Candor everytime someone is honest with you- She started to laugh."Your so funny!" I said then faked laughed. Then I gave Rose a realy hard, playfull punch in the arm.

'Thank you for your honesty' is the the five words I heard almost a hundred times every day. It is one of the things that Candor are obligated to do.

"Ow!" She whined, raising her eyebrows at me. What was that for? I can almost hear her say.

"You want another one?" I threatend.

"Mom!" My sister said running to get her.

"Uuucchh!" I groaned as I layed flat on my black bed, and threw the blanket over my head. I heard footsteps.

"Christina, get up!" My mother, Stephanie yelled. I groaned again. I lifted the blanket off my head, and sat up.

"whoa!!" Mom flinched, at the sight of my hair.

"What?" I snapped.

"Get up, put your cloathes on...and fix your hair." Mom ordered. I looked around my black and white room.

Everything I had was either black or white, because those are the colors that represent, Candor. Except in my room it was mostly black, I love the color black, and I love the darkness of my room. I get up, and walk to my dresser I open it, and take a white t-shirt with a collar, and black buttons buttoned all the way up, and a black tight pencil sjirt that gets to my knees, and, of course, to finnish it up I put on black eyeliner. Then I brush my dark hair, and my perfectly straight teeth. I fluff my hair, as I take one final look in the mirror. Even though I don't like what Candor stands for, and I don't believe in it either, I can't leave. I just...can't abandon my mother or my sister.

"Christina your going to be late!" Mom yelled. On second thought maybe I can! I thought out of spite, but honestly I can't. Today is the final normal day of my life! because tomorrow are the aptitude tests to see what faction you belong in, and the day after, two days from now, is the choosing ceremony, which is when I will stand up in front of the whole crowd, and poor my blood on the glass-which resembles Candor- and live the rest of my life here with my family.

"Coming!" I shouted. Then ran down the stairs. My mother hugged me.

"Enjoy today, this is the last normal day you will have." My mother said.

"Like I need to be reminded." I muttered under my breath. I hugged my sister, Rose. I pulled back from the hug, and headed to the door.

"Love you!" I shouted to them, as I left. I got to school pretty quickly. I saw my friends hanging by the fountin.

"Christina!" my friend Sophie waved me over. I walked over to them. I shook her hand twice-the Candor greeting- "You look good!" Sophie said, and I knew she wasin't lieing cause were candor, we don't lie. I leaned back on the fountain.

"Hey Sophie!" Peter -the only boy in Candor who can lie- greeted Sophie with Drew, and Molly by his sides."Christina."He said using a plain voice to greet me.

"Peter" I said using the same plain voice he said my name with. It's obvious that I don't like Peter, and visa versa. what a jerk! I thought.

"Ring...ring...ring!" The bell rung.

"Cm'on Sophie!" I tugged her away from Peter. We -more like she- waved goodbye to Peter. Before I knew it I was on the floor with a sting in my back. I felt a pair of hands on me. I turned to look at him. He was wearing a blue colar shirt, and long skinny blue jeans. The colors of Erudite. Hes Erudite! I thought. He was very good looking, he has shaggy blonde hair, and pale celery green eyes. He had a book in his hand.

"I'm so sory." He apologized. I shook myself free of him

"Maybe if you were actually looking where you were going you wouldn't have crashed into me." I snapped at him. I realy wasn't angry with him -whoever he was- I just had a lot to get off my chest.

"I'm sorry, I was just trying to help." He snapped back. jerk! I thought."Maybe if you were smart you would realize that walking backwards, is as if, you are yelling out 'someone slam into me'-" I stopped him.

"Yeah, cause that's exzactly what I want." I spoke sarcasticly. I put an evl grin on my face. "Do you want to know what I want to d-"I started, but Sophie cut me off. She walked in the middle of us, but looked only at me.

"Thank you for helping my friend" she thanked him, interupting me, then turned to face him. "Whoa, your handsome!" she said. He blushed. Sophie will make a great Candor, but right now she's embarassing me. I thought. I started dragging Sophie away from the Erudite boy.

As we walked away I turned around one last time and scolded at him, but he was already busy laughing with some of his friends. So I just kept on walking
                                      .....................................................................

I was in class looking aroung the classroom, trying to find a distraction. In front of me was a girl from Abnegation. I can't tell who she is though. all the Abnegation look the same. I would never be able to be Abnegation. I thought. The teacher had just finished calling names. The day seemed to be moving on pretty quickly, but at the same time it fees like it's lasting forever.

Classes moved on, and before I knew it I was next to the fountain eating lunch with Sophie. Peter, and the other Candor jerks, Drew, and Molly who are like Peters crew sat on the other side of the fountain, but close enough to hear our conversation.

I ate my hamburger while watching the Dauntless kids daring eachother to do crazy stuff. I laughed as one of the kids grabbed a stiff -slang for Ablegation- and kissed her, the stiff was so shocked, her eyes were literally popping out of her head. I laughed in amusement. The boy smiled proudly at his friends, whom cheered for the Dauntless kid for completing the dare.

I always appreciated the Dauntless, and what they stand for. I just cant find the bravery in me to leave my mother ,or my sister to go join them.

"Christina!" Sophie snapped her fingers in front of my face.

"Huh?" I said cluelesly. Peter, Drew, and Molly laughed.

"Someone seems distrracted."Sophie giggled.

"Since were Candor and all. I'm going to be completly honest with you. you look like a drooling grandma knitting."Peter made fun of me.

"Thank you for your honesty!" I said mockingly. I punched Peter hard in the arm, as I walked to my next class. Soon all the classes were finished.

" Ring...ring...ring!" Went the bell. I gave Sophie a goodbye hug, and started walking home.

I can't leave her either! I thought.
                     ........................................................................................................

I opened up the black door to my house.

"Mom, I'm home." I yelled. Rose rushed to hug me.

"Honey you're just in time for dinner." My mom yelled. I quickly went upstairs to my room I put my bag on the floor next to my bed. I walked down stairs. My family was already sitting down so I joined them. A quiet dinner in my family in my family does not exsit. Since we are Candor, we speak our minds every second of the day.

"So, how was school?" My mother asked Rose.

"Well I met this realy ugly guy named Drake, and he was such a jerk." Rose said, then pursued her lips ,obviously tring to hide something. " I have a crush on him!" Rose blurted out.

"Thank you for your honesty!" We all said at the same time. I let out a little giggle.

"Rose! I want to meet this guy. Just to make sure he's suitable for my little sister." I joked.

"Maybe after you become an offical member of Candor i'll bring him over." Rose said. right, after I become an offical member of Candor...or...Dauntless!...no I didn't mean to think that...yes I did...no I didn't!

"Maybe." I told her, fighting back my instinct. Uh oh! I thought. I felt my heart beat faster. I want to tell them about my hisatation, I really do. I just can't it will crush them. I thought, convincing myself not to spill.

"Mother, father, can you tell me what to excpect from initation if I choose to continue in Candor?" I asked as calm as I could, in hope that this will help me decide.

"Well, initation in Candor is realy difficult for anyone who is not realy meant to be Candor." My mother started to explain.

"We believe that if we are all honest, and take every secret off our chests, there will be no secrets left for us to keep. Which is why we won't have any problem bieng honest, cause the worst is already out in the open." My father, explained with more spisifics.

"Anyways, they give you something called truth serum. As soon as you take it you only can speak nothin, but the truth. Then they ask you a few personal queshtions. Normally you say the truth, but when someone has a very strong will to keep something hidden, that's when they can try to ignore the queshtion." Mother explained, each time adding more detail.

"Then for the final exsam they attach you to a lying detector. It's pretty complex." Father finished. I will never be able to last! I believe that people should have secrets of their own.

I love the way my parents finnish eachothers sentices it just shows how perfect they are for eachother. It's momments like this that I feel most guilty for wanting to leave them.

"I think you will be a great Candor, don't you?" My mother asked.

"I do." I lied. This is the reason why I am not made out for Candor. I lie with no difficulty. Maybe I should transfer to Dauntless.

"Let's just wait 'till the aptitude test results. It really could change a persons train of thought." My dad pointed out. We continue eating in a peaceful silence.

I quickly finished my food, and as usaual fought with my sister about who has to clean up the table. At the end we both ended up clearing out the table.

I hugged my mother, Rose, and my father. I ran for the stairs. I went to the bathroom, and took a nice ,long shower. I removed the make-up from my face. I dryed myself, and walked to my dresser. I opened up the top drower, and took out a beautiful white silk gown for my pijama. I crawled into to bed, and put the blanket up to my chest. I closed my eyes. A few moments later I drifted off to sleep.
