They got in the walls

Melissa

"What are you doing?" Rick walked up to me, Gabriel, and some other guy I never bothered to learn the name of.

"We're helping him dig the graves--"

"Melissa, you don't need to be doing this. Go home." Rick said. I sighed and dropped my shovel, beginning to jog back to the house. I got home soon and found Carl sitting on the couch with Judith. I smiled and he stood up, walking over to me. He brushed my hair out of my face and kissed me before Judith interrupted by making a happy squealing noise. I chuckled and took Judith from Carl.

"How's your dad feeling about Morgan?" I asked as Judith played with my ponytail. I bounced her up and down in my arms.

"I don't know. I haven't seen the two together much since last night..." Carl sighed. I nodded.

"Oh. S--" I was cut off by Judith crying in my arms. I looked down at her and sighed, bouncing her lightly in my arms.

"I'll put her to bed. Be right back." Carl said, taking Judith and walking up the stairs. I sighed and leaned against the kitchen counter, grabbing an empty bean can and twirling it around. The door opened and carol walked in, shutting the door behind her and walking to the stove, placing different cans on the counter. She's been naming a lot lately. It's like she completely changed from the woman who blew up terminus, and now she's like a housewife again.

I decided to give her room, so I walked upstairs to Carl. He was placing a sleeping Judith into her crib. I walked up to him and snaked my arms around his waist, standing on my toes to put my chin on his shoulder. I kissed his neck and smiled up at him.

He turned around and kissed my lips. I out my hands on his face and pulled away. I saw the silver ring on my hand.

"It's not so much an engagement ring. More of a promise ring. You're mine and I'm yours until we can actually get married. Then I'll give you a real ring. A better one. Because, god, I love you so, so much." I remember him telling me.

I smiled, kissing him again. "I love you." I whispered. And it's true. I never thought I'd love anyone as much as I love Carl.

Carl smiled and kissed me again. Mid-kiss, screams sounded from outside, making me jump. I ran over to the window and saw people from outside chasing after and killing the Alexandrians.

"Get the guns." Carl ordered. I froze. It's been a while since I've had to fight. "Now!" Carl ordered, running out of Judith's room with me and locking her door. I ran into our room and grabbed our guns, handing Carl his.

We ran downstairs, seeing carol. "We saw them from upstairs, they're coming in from all over." Carl rushed.

"Carl, you gotta stay here and keep Judith safe. Melissa, you gotta help me." Carol said. I nodded and followed her outside. My hands shook. Last time we had people invade our home Hershel died. And then we had terminus.

"Carol?!" I looked around and couldn't find her. I heard footsteps from behind me, and a man was following me with an axe in his hands.
"Shit!"

I began running away from him.

One advantage we have against these strange people with the Ws on their foreheads- we have guns.

The man wrapped his arm around me, dropping us to the ground. I let out a scared and frustrated grunt when I hit the ground, grabbing my gun and slamming it to the side of his face, knocking him off of me. I stood up and put my foot on his neck, aiming my gun at him.

"No, no! Don't shoot! Please!" He begged. I found myself not thinking straight, and soon I found myself being slammed against a wall of a house. I groaned and realized I was a perfect target for this man. I couldn't move. I looked behind him, and his axe was flung a few feet away. He's gonna have to try to kill me with his bare hands-which were currently tied around my neck.

Good thing my hands are free.

I reached down into my pocket and grabbed my little pocket knife.

I jammed it into the side of his head and watched as he dropped to the ground.

I kicked him as I walked over him to retrieve my gun and his axe. Just as I took another step, an alarm blared. I walked away and walked down the street. Another one of those people were running towards me. I screamed and aimed my gun at them.

"Melissa!"

"Carol?!" I asked. She nodded. She looked just like one of them.

"Go back. Go make sure Carl and Judith are f-- what happened to you?!" She asked.

"On of them got me." I said as she touched a spot on my forehead that I guess was bleeding. "He's dead." I said. She nodded before quickly dismissing me. I ran back to the house.

I banged on the front door.

"Carl! Open up!" I yelled over the gunshots and screams. The door flung open and Carl dragged me in before shutting the door. He immediately saw my forehead and grabbed my face, gently wiping the dripping blood with his thumb. I don't even know when that happened.

"Don't ever ever ever leave me again, you hear me?" Carl ordered. I smiled. He sighed and pulled me close to him, wrapping his arms tightly around me and kissing me head.

"I wish dad was here. He'd be able to do something. They'd all be able to do something." I said. But, unfortunately, dad, Rick, Glenn, Sasha, Abraham, they're all out clearing a herd before they get here. It's up to us. A bunch of people, including children, who've never seen what's actually going on out there and people who never had to fight, and us. Our group, against however many of these people there are.

Me and Carl sat on the ground, back to back, guns in hand.

"We're not gonna be able to get them all. This place is big. Too many blindspots. You turn a corner and your life is over." I said, taking the bottom of my shirt and bringing it up to my head. The bloods stopping.

"This place is too big to protect. That how we--"

"They got in the walls. But they're gonna die. All of them." Carl basically growled. I nodded.

I slowly opened my eyes, squinting due to the light. I felt carls arms around me, while my arm was draped over his stomach.

I looked up at him and saw he was already looking down at me. He smiled at me and I rolled onto my stomach to face him, still keeping his arms around me.

"Good Morning." He said in a sleepy voice. I smiled at him and said 'morning.'

"What time is it?" I asked quietly. "How long have you been up?" He shrugged.

"Long enough to know that you're adorable with your hair all messy and your arms wrapped around me." He was still whispering.

"Carl Grimes. We're you watching me sleep?" I whispered back, not to wake anyone.

"Maybe." He smirked. I giggled and leaned down to kiss him.

"Lets go. I wanna get breakfast while its still hot." We were probably eating oatmeal again, but its better than stale cereal. I crawled over him and stood up, putting my hair up and putting on my boots, putting on carls sweater.

"I have an idea. Lets just lay in bed all day." He said, looking at me with one eye, the other one closed. I smiled.

"As much as I'd love that," I started, as he stood up. "We cant. I have fence duty today. And you gotta garden--" he stopped me by kissing me. I laughed.

"I love you." He whispered. I smirked.

"Yeah, I guess you're not too bad either." I whispered back, a big goofy grin on his face. He grabbed my hand and we walked out of the cell.

I looked over the big gun in my hands, the screams and gunshots seemed to tune down, but not entirely. You can still hear the children crying.

"You think we're gonna get out of this?" I asked. "We don't have dad, we don't have rick, glenn, michonne, we don't have Sasha or Abraham, all our strongest are gone taking care of that herd. Who knows if they're even alive anymore? A herd that size can take down anyone. Nicholas is there. He already tried killing glenn, what if they're surrounded or something and Nicholas pushes glenn into the walkers. What if--"

"Melissa." Carl said.

"No, what if dad got separated. He's only got so much gas in his motorcycle. Then he's only got so many arrows and bullets. What if everyone else who went with them are all dead? What if this place burns to the ground while they're gone? How are they gonna find us--"

"Melissa." Carl whispered, quickly standing up. I heard someone jiggling the door handle, and I shot up too, raising my gun. We walked closer to the door, and it opened. Someone walked in and I froze.
