Could be worse

"Why the hell would you shoot her?!" I heard voices yell. I wanted to open my eyes, but I couldn't move.

"She cut off my boy's arm! Reflexes, I guess! I don't know, okay?! I'm sorry but my son is loosing blood and fast, we need to get to wherever you're staying!" Another man yelled. I think it was that man I found walker at the car.

"We have the stuff for your son." Rick sighed. The man let out a breath of relief. "And Maggie is in the backseat anyways, stopping the bleeding. We don't have any of the tools to help Melissa..." I heard rick let out an exasperated sigh. I became fully conscious on my wound on my stomach. The littlest things like breathing or a numb on the road sent pain through my body.

I managed to let out a groan of pain. I struggled to open my eyes, but eventually succeeded. I saw my dad leaning over me.

"Shes awake!" I heard Michone cheer. I slowly put a hand over my wound on my stomach. I began coughing. It hurt like hell when I did, but I couldn't stop. I felt blood our down my chin as I continued to cough. I began shivering and choking on my blood.

"Stop the car." I heard dad demand. "STOP THE DAMN CAR AND LETS GET HER INSIDE!"

I felt the car stop, and I was lifted carefully into the house. We reached the front door, when I just collapsed. I was still conscious, but I couldn't feel anything. I could move my eyes and hear everything.

"Shit! Get her inside!" Rick yelled. The door opened and I was lifted inside.

"Oh my god!" I heard Damien shout. I felt pressure on my wound, and suddenly I could feel everything again. I screamed in pain.

"Stop! Stop you're killing her!" I heard Carl cry.

"Carl, we have to get the bullet fragments out!" Maggie yelled.

I began coughing up blood again. I couldn't move. I just laid there, choking on my blood.

So this is how I die. Huh.

I felt a cool liquid being lured on my gunshot wound. Peroxide, I'm guessing. I honestly don't know anymore.

"H-help..." I managed to choke out, before falling back, passed out.

"Well, well, well. Look who's back." I heard a woman's voice say. I looked up and saw my mother. I was strapped to a chair.

"Let. Me. Go." I said through gritted teeth. "I'm gonna kill you." I added. She chuckled darkly.

"Not if I kill you first. Now, how's that stab wound doing?" She asked. I looked down at my stomach, chest, everywhere. I was perfectly fine. I looked up.

"What do you mea-" I stopped when I felt a sharp pain go through my chest. I gasped for air. I looked down and saw that my mother had stabbed me in the chest. She Un strapped me from the chair, letting me fall to the ground.

She laughed as I gasped for air.

"If you were with that little Carl, he'd be here to save you. But, he's dead. So is your dad, and everyone else for that matter. Or, they will be. Would you like to see?" She asked, laughing.

She brought in Carl and dad. I wanted to say something, but I could barely breath. Heir eyes went wide at the sight of me, but couldn't move. My mother chuckled, slicing my dad's throughout.

"DAD! DAD!" I screamed, but it only came out in a whisper. She brought Carl closer to me, throwing him down to me. He scrambled towards me, lifting me Onto his lap. I couldn't breath now. I heard a gunshot and he fell on me. I took a breath and shut my eyes.

"See you soon." I whispered, before I fell asleep, forever.

I shot up, screaming in pain. I saw my dad rush over to me. He hugged me and I hugged back, relieved. The man that shot me slowly walked up to us. I let go of dad.

"How's the boy?" I asked.

"He's stable. His names Nathan. My names Tristen, and my wife's name is Bella. I'm real sorry for shooting you... Thank you for saving my boy." He said. I nodded.

"Help me stand up. I wanna go to my room..." I said. Dad nodded and picked me up bridal style, carrying me to my bedroom door. I slowly walked to my bed, but saw Carl sitting on my beg with his head in his hands. I cleared my throat. His head shot up.

"Melissa..." He smiled. "I'm sorry..." He said. I nodded.

"Me too..." I said. He looked up at me, hope in his eyes.

"It was you. It was always you." He whispered. I smiled. I hugged him. He hugged back, careful of my stomach. I felt water on my shoulder. Carl was crying.

"You okay?" I asked. He sniffled.

"This was hell. When you were taken, when you wouldn't talk to me, when you were shot... I need you, Melissa. I love you." He sniffled. I thought about it. I smiled. I kissed him on the lips. He smiled into the kiss.

"You ever hurt me again, I won't forgive you..." I mumbled. He hugged me tighter.

"I promise I won't." He said. I nodded,

"I love you too. I missed you." I mumbled into his chest. I guess I'm being a little bipolar, but that dream I had... It basically told me everything I needed to know.

"EVERYONE GET UP! NOW!" Abrahams voice rang through the large house. I shot up. Carl noticed I moved and shot up too. I smiled at how overprotective he was, but my smile faded when I looked out the window. Walkers. Lots and lots of walkers.

"Nothing good ever stays..." I mumbled, standing up. I winced from the pain in my stomach. We can never stay at once place for too long, before having it ripped away from us. Everyone we love eventually dies. Beth, Kayla, Merle, Hershel, Amanda, Lizzie, mika, everyone just gets ripped away from you and you have no control over it.

"Mel?" I hand touched my back. It was my dad.

"We have to go." He said.

"How am I supposed to... I can barely even stand and none of you are gonna be able to carry me through all the walkers." I said.

"Fight through the pain. I'm not letting you die." Dad said. I nodded and grabbed my bag. Everyone was rushing out the back door. I quickly grabbed Judith and ran out the back door, into the woods with the group. Carl walked beside me. I put my hand over my eyes, trying to see because of the hot sun on my face. I saw Judith was squinting, too, so I put my hand above her eyes, shielding the sun from them. I was dying due to the heat. I looked around. Everyone looked depressed.

"I'm gonna... I'm gonna go check and see if I can find any water." Maggie said. Sasha and Daryl decided to look, too. We got out of the woods and onto a gravel road. We all sat down. Me and carl leaned against each other back to back. I sighed and rested my head against his.

"How's your stomach?" Damien asked. I shrugged.

"Could be better at a time like this." I said. I looked over at Nathan, Tristen, and Bella. They were fairly distant from us. I looked at Nathan. He's one tough little boy. Too bad he has to grow up like this. I looked at Judith, who was sleeping against me. She will never know what the old world was like.

I wrapped my free hand that wasn't holding Judith around carls. I shut my eyes and fell asleep.

"Anything?" I heard rick ask. I looked and saw my dad, Maggie and Sasha all shake their heads.

"Not a single thing..." Dad sighed. He was still pretty torn about Beth, so was Maggie.

"How're you feeling?" Dad asked. I leaned back against Carl and sighed.

"Like I'm being stabbed over and over again in the stomach all while being lit on fire. Hungry. Thirsty." I shrugged. "But hey, could be worse, right." I said, closing my eyes. "Could be gone..." I mumbled.

"What do we do now? We need rain. We need water." Maggie asked.

"We keep walking. It'll rain eventually." Rick said, looking up at the clouds. Carl helped me stand up. He took Judith from me and carried her. Every step I took made my wound feel worse and worse.

I saw Glenn convince Maggie to drink some water. She barely took a sip. He sighed, turning around and offering some to dad. He refused.

"Melissa. Drink." He ordered. I shook my head, taking it and giving it to Judith.

"She needs it more than I do." I said, pouring the water in her baby bottle, giving it to her. I gave Glenn the bottle back. He drank the last little bit, since nobody else would take it, and put it in his bag.

We stopped by some cars. I sat down with Carl and Judith. I put my head on carls shoulder and fought back tears of pain.

"This is hell." I mumbled, sighing. He nodded and grabbed my hand.

It was getting dark, and we had nowhere to go, so we lit a fire. I began to head growls coming from behind us. I put a hand over Judith's ear and slowly turned around, seeing a pack of wild dogs. I began to shake. They began to slowly walk closer to Carl, Judith and I, but they all dropped dead, Sasha shot them all. I sighed. I saw a collar on the ground.

"Fido..." I mumbled.

Rick decided that we had to eat them. I didn't argue, food is food these days, and if you don't like it, well too bad...

I ate a little bit of food, but decided sleep would be more important if we were gonna be on the road all day again tomorrow. I laid down on the ground, my bag being used as a pillow, until Carl pulled me closer to him. I took Judith and laid her down on me while I snuggled into Carl, my head on his chest and both of his arms wrapped around me and Judith. I quickly fell asleep.

Daryl's POV

I looked over at Melissa. She was asleep with Carl and Judith. I slightly smiled. I'm glad they're not fighting anymore. I saw her shivering. The heat in the day time is bad, but at night it cools down a bit, and she was just shot in the stomach yesterday, so I took off my vest, placing it over her and Judith, and partially Carl.

I decided not to sleep that night. Walkers are nearby and I am not letting anybody in this group get hurt.

The night went by slow, no walkers in sight.

I thought about everyone we lost. Hershel, Andrea, t-dog, dale, Merle, Beth, Lizzie, mika, Patrick, the Woodbury group, tyreese, Kayla, Lori, the prisoners, Amy, Shane, Sophia, everyone from that camp in Atlanta in the beginning, jaqui, Dr. Edwin Jenner, Patricia, Otis, Karen, David, everyone...

Everyone eventually started to wake up, except for Melissa, Carl and Judith. But we left them for a while. They're way to young to be on the road all the time. They need their sleep.

They haven't moved at all last night. Rick went and woke Melissa up. She sat up, causing Carl to wake up as well. He's so protective over her. That's a good thing. I'm glad she has someone else to protect her, too.

They stood up and we all began walking again. We got to a bridge, and soon walkers were all around us. I looked at Melissa, who was at the other side of the bridge holding Judith.

Melissa's POV

Walkers were everywhere. Coming towards us, trying to tear the flesh from our nines, but we fought them all off. I was in charge of protecting Judith.

I looked to my right and saw a walker about to bite into ricks arm. I quickly handing Judith to Carl and ran over to rick. I grabbed the walker by the hair, yanking it away. The top part of its head came off. It tumbled down the cliff. I felt gross.

I took off my long sleeve shirt, leaving me in a tank top. I took Judith from Carl again, and we began to walk.

This is gonna be a long day.
