Friend
Melissa's POV
"Okay, so you aim, there ya go. Breath. In and out. Slowly. Now, pull the trigger." Daryl said. He was teaching me how to use my crossbow. I pulled the trigger and the arrow flew into the walkers head. I froze. I just killed it. I just killed something. Murdered it.
I began to breath heavily and I dropped my crossbow, backing up. Daryl kneeled down beside me.
"Hey, hey, hey. What's wrong?" He asked. I pointed a shaky finger to the walker.
"I just killed it... It wasn't gonna hurt me... It was lonely, that's all... You made me do this! I just killed him!" I screamed.
Daryl's POV
"It was lonely, that's all... You made me do this! I just killed him!" Melissa screamed. I stood there, confused.
"Melissa, they're dead... They don't want a friend..."
"He just wanted a friend and you killed him!" She screamed and ran off. I just stayed still, looking at the walker.
"The hell was that?" Abraham asked.
"Save it, Abe, she just doesn't remember. It's not her fault." I spat.
"Yea well this girl is gonna get all of us killed. I'll just have to do something in advance-"
"Abraham, put the damn gun down. You are not killing my fucking daughter!"
"She doesn't think she's your daughter. She doesn't remember you-"
"She don't remember anything! It's not her damn fault! She won't get any of us killed!" I said.
+++
"Come on, Dave!" I heard Melissa giggle. I turned around and saw her playing with a walker.
"Melissa! Get away from it!" I ran towards it.
"Daryl, No!" She yelled. I pushed her out of the way, stabbing my knife in the walkers skull. She screamed.
"You killed him! You killed him! He was my friend! What if I killed you? What if I killed you?!" She screamed and stared at the walker as if it was a close family member that I just murdered.
"Melissa... He was trying to kill you-"
"It just wanted a friend! I was gonna lead him away! You killed him! You killed him..." She dropped to her knees and let some tears fall.
"You don't understand... You don't understand. You don't understand! YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!" She screamed. I led her back to the fire truck and laid her down. I walked back to the group. I took her weapons away, just incase...
"What did I tell ya? If she doesn't get everyone else killed, She'll get herself killed. She's going insane." Abe said.
"ENOUGH!" Carl yelled. Everyone looked at him. "Enough. It's not her fault. She thinks they're people... That's dangerous, but she doesn't know anymore! Damn, just leave her the hell alone!" He yelled and walked away. I glared at Abraham and walked away.
I walked up to carol, who was listening to the walkie talkie.
"Carol, get the kids out of there, they don't need to see this." I heard ricks voice boom in.
"What happened?" I asked.
"Tyreese.... Tyreese was bit..." Rick sighed. I sighed and shut my eyes.
"Just one good day. That's all I'm asking." I mumbled and walked off. Carl grabbed Judith and sat down outside of the fire truck.
"Should we tell Sasha?" Carol asked. I sighed.
"I would have liked to know if my brother was bit..." I said. She nodded and walked to Sasha. I saw Sasha's face drop as she held back tears. I shook my head and walked off.
Soon after, the four came back, carrying tyreese wrapped in a white towel. Sasha ran up to them, crying. She stopped and her face hardened. She looked annoyed and mad, but still upset.
"Hey, rick." I called. Rick walked over.
"Yep?" Rick sighed.
"Melissa... She got sick. She passed out and when she woke up, she didn't remember anything..."
"Nothing?" Rick asked.
"Not a thing. Not even the walkers... Not me... Nothing. She thinks the walkers are people. I caught her playing with one. She started screaming and crying when I killed it. She's asleep in the truck... I don't know what to do... Abe is trying to get us to let him kill her..." I said. Rick sighed.
"Let's have the burial for Ty... I don't think we should wake her..." Rick said. I nodded.
+++
We finished burying Ty, and Gabriel finished saying prayers. Sasha grabbed the last but of dirt in the shovel, and carelessly poured it onto the grave. She is fed up with the world-I can tell. We all are at this point.
Melissa walked out. She was holding her head.
"What's wrong?" Carl asked.
"God, my head hurts. I came out to say bye to-to tyreese." She said.
"Wait, what?"
"When tyreese, rick and Noah and them went out to wherever it was they were going, tyreese got bit so I wanna say bye."
"You remember tyreese?!" I asked.
"Not really... That carol girl told me. Apparently I knew him or something." She said. I sighed.
"Okay." I said. She walked to the grave. Carl shut his eyes and sighed.
"Kid, it's gonna be alright..." I patted his shoulder and walked off.
"DARYL!" I heard Melissa scream. I turned around and saw a walker on top of her.
"Melissa!" I screamed.
"Get her off of me! Please!" I screamed. Carl ran up to her and killed the walker.
"No...no you killed her... She-she was my friend...you killed my friend... You killed her... You killed her! NO!" She screamed. Carl grabbed her hands.
"Hey, hey... She was trying to hurt you. She wasn't your friend. Don't cry... Hey, hey, hey...she was mean, she wasn't a friend if she tried to kill you, right?" He said softly. She started calming down. She shook her head.
"Exactly. Now, don't cry. Please." He spoke quietly. She calmed down and nodded.
"O-okay." She said. She walked off to the fire truck. Carl stayed kneeling down, his head turned back to look at her. He stood up.
"How did you do that?!" Carol asked, surprised.
"I guess I just... Know what to do... But I hate treating her like she's five. She's fifteen, not a child. God, I hate it." He mumbled and walked off. I sighed.
"She'll be fine, don't worry." Rick said. I nodded and walked away.
Carls POV
When she started freaking out back there, I had no other option other than treating her like a little kid. As much as I hate it, we have to be extra careful now about what we say around her. We don't wanna frighten her, since she doesn't remember any of us. When she brought up tyreese, I thought she would have actually had her memory back... But I guess not. I'm not even sure she will even remember anything anymore. Ever.
She walked out of the fire truck.
"You okay?" I asked. She nodded her head.
"Just...just really d-dizzy and lightheaded..." She said. I nodded and she put a hand on my shoulder, trying to keep her balance.
"You'll be fine." I assured her.
"I feel really bad... For not remembering anything. I'm trying to but... But I just can't. It's like... It's like I'm trying to think of something but I'm getting nothing. And you were supposedly my boyfriend who I loved... He was my dad... This was my group in the apocalypse...the walkers a supposedly dangerous... I don't know it's just... I don't know." She sighed.
"It's okay... It's not your fault. You got sick and passed out. But the walkers-they aren't people. They aren't alive anymore."
"Then why are the moving and eating?" She asked.
"It's the virus. If you die or get bit or scratched, you die and you come back to life, but you aren't you. You're not human. You don't know anything except to kill. It's this thing in the brain that reanimates only the part of the brain that helps you walk and eat.
You-your personality and what you ever known-isn't there anymore. The walkers aren't looking for friends, they're looking to kill you. They're looking for food." I explained. She looked at a dead walker on the ground and nodded.
"How do you know?" She asked.
"I've seen it happen."

Melissa's POV
I was sitting by the fire, trying to warm myself up. Who knew it would be this cold in... Wherever we are. I felt a cool metal against my chest. I saw a gold heart shaped locket. I lifted it up closer to my face. It was beautiful. I opened it and saw a picture of me and Carl. I remember when we took this.
Wait.
I remember when we took this!
Flashback
"Melissa! C'mere! I wanna take a picture with this camera I found on a run." Carl said from outside our cell. I nodded and walked out, handing Judith to Beth.
"Dad, can you take this picture of us?" I asked, handing dad the Polaroid camera. He nodded. He pointed the camera at us. We smiled and we wrapped an arm around my shoulder and I kissed his cheek. Dad snapped the picture and it printed out.
"Thanks." I said, taking the camera from dad. The picture developed and we looked at it.
I was kissing carls cheek. My eyes were closed and so was carls. He had an arm wrapped tightly around my shoulder. We were both smiling. The hustle and bustle of the group was behind us.
"I love this!" I giggled. He looked at it and smiled. He kissed me, just as Beth walked by.
"Aww. This is adorable!" She smiled, taking another picture. It printed out. It was just of me and Carl kissing in front of our cell, but Carl decided to keep that, too.
End of flashback.
I gasped and stood up. My head was pounding and the world seemed to be spinning, but I didn't care. I looked at the two pictures of Carl and I. I picked up the other angel wing necklace, remembering when dad got me it.
Now, even keeping my balance was a struggle.
Suddenly, I remembered everything, even the parts just before I passed out, and even after.
My head hurt so bad. I let out a small scream as I fell to the ground, clutching my head. Everyone ran up to me.
"Melissa? Hey, hey, Melissa?" Carl asked.
"I...remember...now..." I breathed before darkness consumed my vision.
